1. super hero flash dash
2. trick or trot 5k
3. rescue 5k
4. down2earth half
5. Miami beach Halloween half and 4 miler

Saturday agenda-race?

Heres what I found for today:

1. Brooklyn marathon
2. Jacksonville half
3. every boob counts
4. race for the cure 5k
5. family fun 5k

You can automatically rule out the former (out of FL). I went to the latter (closest in proximity) but made a tactical error and arrived with only 5 minutes to the start (began at 7 instead of 7:30 or 8 as I thought), therefore I didn't run since there were no more bibs & they wouldn't give me a t shirt.

Sunday agenda-race?

1. rnr Denver half
2. Detroit marathon
3. Rocktoberfest 10 miler
4. step up 4 downs syndrome.

You can automatically rule out the former 2(out of FL); I picked the latter (closest in proximity). Eastwood time:

In conclusion:

2. stronger than cancer 5k
3. hustle 2 end hunger 5k
4. light ones path 5k

While the latter was the closest in proximity, I wound up doing the former (furthest). Clint time:

Sunday agenda-race?

Here is what I considered for the first Sunday of the month:

1. Chicago marathon
2. dunn's run
3. parkland 5 mile/5k

You can automatically rule out the former (out of FL). The next was cancelled due to red tide, leaving the latter. I completed 5 miles but didn't compete, so therefore no award.

Labor day weekend!

Labor day weekend!

Saturday agenda-race?

Here is what I found on the first Saturday of the month:

1. labor day 5k
2. save the jaguars 5k

This one was pick your poison for me: The former is very fast but is closest in proximity; the latter has ten year age groups and is the furthest. Yep, I picked the former and got the expected results in terms of the podium; not! However, I didn't help the cause with the excessive walking and the stop to my car (to drop off tshirt since I couldn't return to car from packet pickup); that was the first time I ever did that! Another disappointment was I got a finisher medal that was not as promised (they said it will be mailed).

Sunday agenda-race?

Here is what I found on the first Sunday of the month:

1. rnr virginia beach half
2. king of the hill 5k

You can automatically rule out the former (out of FL). I normally do the latter but missed because I was out of town. Instead, I trained, visited friends and went to the 10th annual and final pig roast.

Monday agenda-race?

It is rare to race on a Monday but it is a holiday for most; I found 2:

1. canes cross country 5k
2. john clay 5k

I was in the area for both, which were on the FL west coast but opted to train instead.

Saturday, August 25, 2018

Saturday agenda-race?

Here is what I found for today:

1. rampage 5k
2. Shirley enrico 5k
3. loco rio 8k

although none in my county, the latter was the closest in proximity. The former was the furthest, while the next was an inaugural.

Sunday agenda-race?

Here is what I found for this day:

1. summers end fun run

I have to miss due to distance and time. I opt to train instead.

Sunday, August 19, 2018

Aw gust oh!

Aw gust oh! That's how august sounds in Spanish.

Saturday agenda-race?

I did the last of the free 5k series since I couldn't find any races.

Sunday agenda-race?

Nada! I did some training instead.

Saturday, August 11, 2018

Mid month crisis (almost)!

Mid month crisis (almost)! In a racing drought!

Saturday agenda-race?

I found only a free (fun run) 5k. I did that leisurely.

Sunday agenda-race?

Not! no 5k's but there was a du/tri (trilogy #3). Without a swimmer, no tri; without money, neither the tri nor du. I volunteered for 4 1/2 hrs then followed with a ride longer than that in the race.

Conclusion:

This was a training weekend!

Saturday, August 04, 2018

First weekend of the month

First weekend of the month (August).

Saturday agenda-race?

Here is what I found for the first Saturday of the month:

1. cobra 5k
2. run for the amazon 5k

I have done the former before so this year, I picked the latter. Both are far for me but the former was in palm beach rather than coral springs. Clint time:

The good: top ten, podium
The bad: 3 age (I like to win), generic award, heat
The ugly: no finisher medal, walked twice, time, humidity

Sunday agenda-race?

Here is what I found for the first Sunday of the month:

1. dash back to school 5k

Eastwood time:

The good: finisher medal, results receipt
The bad: cotton tshirt, course (full of turns and narrow)
The ugly: didn't place, ten year age groups

I went from hero to zero on this weekend, the last of 2 race weekend until September.

Saturday, July 28, 2018

Final weekend of July!

Final weekend of July!

Saturday agenda-race?

Here is what I considered for the last Saturday of the month:

1. eagle lakes 5k
2. kettle krush 5k
3. AIMM foundation 5k

Normally, I do the former (part of the elite series) but it also is the furthest event. I thought about the latter (closest in proximity) but not only do I have to run the rick, it features a highly improbable chance to win due to my category (40-59), so I went to the remainder. Although slightly better (50-59), there was only 1 overall, plus I sustained an injury to the left leg. I chose to train during the event.

Sunday agenda-race?

Here is what I considered for the last Sunday of the month:

1. the san Francisco marathon
2. huntingtons disease triathlon

You can automatically rule out the former (out of FL). Without a swimmer, I have to pass on the latter as well; I guess that means I have to train instead. I decided to do a short long run (almost 5 miles).

Saturday, July 21, 2018

Hemmingway weekend in the keys!

Hemmingway weekend in the keys! a rare Thursday night race (run, sweat and beers) preceded this weekend but I couldn't attend due to both distance and time of event.

Saturday agenda-race?

Here is what I found for today:

1. Hemmingway 5k and paddle board race
2. gixo fun run

I passed on the former for the latter despite the fact that it wasn't a race. This was largely due to distance & cost; you cant be free.

Sunday agenda-race?

Here is what I found for this day:

1. san Francisco marathon
2. run to shout 5k

You can automatically rule out the former (out of FL), so I did the latter. Clint time:

The good: podium, top age, finisher medals
The bad: ten year age, no master
The ugly: course not marked causing most to run much longer

Saturday, July 14, 2018

Mid month crisis!

Mid month crisis!

Saturday agenda-race?

Here is what I could find for today:

1. fun fit challenge

I passed on that because it was not a race (fun run) and opted to train instead.

Sunday agenda-race?

Here is what I could find for today:

1. mr trilogy du/tri #2

I could've done the du but partnered up with linda to swim and got harolyn to run. Linda and I did better than last time; she by a lot, myself by a few seconds. harolyn ran a low 22. Although her best time thus far this year, we were dead last. After cycling, we advanced to 2nd in our category. Harolyn maintained this position until the finish. Our combined efforts led to a surprising podium finish (2nd co-ed relay).

Saturday, July 07, 2018

Who lee oh!

Who lee oh! That's how july sounds in Spanish. this is a drought weekend as I could find no races within my range. Must opt to train.

Saturday agenda- free 5k.

I arrived just prior to but missed the start. I jogged until I reached the final walker then walked with her.

Sunday agenda- race?

Not! I pulled out my inlines and did some skating.

Wednesday, July 04, 2018

Independence day!

Independence day! This is the day that the united states of America celebrates its independence from England. However, I notice many of the things we tried to escape have been implemented in a different manner. My opinion, tolls, various taxes (property, estate, sales and income) seem very similar and tolls are like taxation without representation since all I see are improved ways to collect more money rather than fix the roads.

Today's agenda-race!

I found various all over the state, so I boiled my selection down to as follows:

1. run 4 freedom 4 miler
2. Weston hometown celebration 5k
3. 4th of july 5k

Each 1 is in a different county. Palm beach, broward and dade; I did the latter. Clint time:

The good: finisher medal, close to home, 7:04 scheduled start
The bad: started late
The ugly: didn't place, race results difficult to view at race, right shoe fell apart

Sunday, July 01, 2018

Transition weekend!

Transition weekend! It is pre independence day weekend.

Saturday agenda-race?

Here is what I found for the last day of the month:

1. winery 5k
2. freedom 5k
3. all American 5k

double header op

Sunday agenda-race?

Here is what I found for the first day of the month:

1. independence day du/tri

Final full weekend of June!

Final full weekend of June!

Saturday agenda-race?

Here is what I found for this day:

1. triumph 5k
2. stomp out bullying 5k

I chose the former. Clint time:

The good: finisher medal, 7 am start
The bad: cotton tshirt, award medal, weather (hot and humid)
The ugly: didn't place because didn't do top 3 overall (bumped me to 4th)

Sunday agenda-race?

Not! I couldn't find anything, so therefore I trained; I did 'everything' but run. this was the last sunday of the month.

Saturday, June 16, 2018

Father's day weekend!

Father's day weekend!

Saturday agenda-race?

I didn't find much:

1. grandma's marathon
2. run 4 the sea 4 miler

You can automatically rule out the former (out of FL); that leaves the latter. I passed on both to prepare for dad's day. I opted to train instead.

Sunday agenda-race?

Happy father's day! I only found 1 event: kb trilogy #1

I have done relays before but this one was quite different. In fact, a real challenge. A team was formed by Kerry, paralyzed as a domestic violence victim, so that she could complete a marathon with assistance.

The swimmer was linda. she had to pull her with a 'raft' while swimming
The cyclist was yours truly. I had to pull her with a 'cart' attachment to my bike
The runner was Emily. She had to push her with a 'stroller'

This concept was new to all of us but I am going to talk about me because I almost backed out. Why? This was in key Biscayne, which requires going over the steep Rickenbacker causeway bridge twice. I normally climb the bridge standing but couldn't do that with the cart, requiring me to use solely my legs. I struggled going up but by the grace of God, managed. Also, I had to do something I hate to do, especially going down hill- use brakes! I realized I had to control the speed going down with this method. Although I posted my worst ever bike time, I successfully completed my leg, delivering her safely to transition; I came in faster than they expected, if that's any consolation.

Saturday, June 09, 2018

Who knee oh!

Who knee oh! That's how june sounds in Spanish.

Saturday agenda-race?

Here is what I found for this day:

1. sugden stride 5k

guess what I did? Clint time:

The good: finisher medal, podium*, 5 deep, choice of tech shirt or cotton tank
The bad: 5th age*, 2 loop in course, distance to race (naples)
The ugly: got hot and humid, walked 5 times affecting my time

Sunday agenda-race?

It was difficult to find an event for this day, but by the grace of God, I did; kiso aquarun. fortunately, they offered a 5k only, in addition to the aforementioned. Eastwood time:

The good: podium (1st age)
The bad: 2 loop rolling course, started late, directions not clear, generic award medal
The ugly: got hot and humid, walked 4 times affecting my time, no finisher medal, forgot tshirt

Conclusion

Despite poor performance, I was blessed to make the podium on both days. Both events were far: Saturday was over 2 hours while sunday was over an hour and a half.

Saturday, June 02, 2018

Hurricane season has begun!

Hurricane season has begun! This is the first weekend of the month.

Saturday agenda-race?

Here is what I considered for the first Saturday of the month:

1. God's country marathon/half
2. blue line 5k
3. run for the IVY 5k

You can automatically rule out the former (out of FL). Although still far, the latter was closest in proximity. Clint time:

The good: podium (1st age), top dozen, finisher medal
The bad: a sharp turn around + many turns
The ugly: time still below par

Sunday agenda-race?

Here is what I considered for the first Sunday of the month:

1. san diego rnr marathon
2. run for the ribbons 5k
3. beerfest 5k
4. twilight 5k

You can automatically rule out the former (out of FL). The latter was closest in proximity and an afternoon event, opening up a double header opportunity. I picked the furthest local race and did visit the latter. Eastwood time:

The good: finisher medal
The bad: rain
The ugly: didn't place, time way below par

I completed the latter, finishing 3 5k events. In the last one, it began to rain about 5-10 prior to the start.

Saturday, May 26, 2018

Memorial day weekend!

Memorial day weekend! Lets pay tribute to all those who gave the ultimate sacrifice for our freedoms. It is also the last weekend of the month.

Saturday agenda-race?

Here is what I found for the last Saturday of the month:

1. 5k scholarship run

Guess where I went?

The good: I found the venue
The bad: rain
The ugly: cancelled ghetto style (without notice)

I did a mile within the carol city park then took off.

Sunday agenda-race?

Here is what I found for the last Sunday of the month:

Monday-memorial day!

Here is what I found for the last Monday of the month:

1. memorial day apple pie 5k
2. Weston memorial day classic

I usually pick the latter (not close but closest in proximity) but this year, picked the former.

The good: finisher pie
The bad: cotton tshirt
The ugly: didn't place

this was the last race of the month. Although the best time of the month, I fell short of the podium (4th age).

Saturday, May 19, 2018

Armed forces weekend!

Armed forces weekend!

Saturday agenda-race?

Here is what I considered for armed forces day:

1. save the tiger 5k
2. hugs for hope 5k
3. march for cancer 5k
4. tour of gables 5k/10k
5. keys 100

Listed from northern most to south; I picked the center. Clint time:

The good: finisher medal
The bad: I95 blocked, lost in airport, parking, rain
The ugly: back gave out which cost me a trophy (didn't place)

Sunday agenda-race?

Here is what I considered for this day:

1. Cleveland marathon
2. marine corps historic half
3. lunge for the lungs 5k
4. tri Miami

You can automatically rule out the first 2 (out of FL). I passed on the latter (no swimmer plus not in shape). Eastwood time:

The good: podium (1st place)
The bad: Hialeah expressway blocked, rain, medal (no trophy)
The ugly: no finisher medal as promised, race course full of puddles, last mile on horse track was grass and mud

Saturday, May 12, 2018

Mother's day weekend

Mother's day weekend is here! This is yet another somber reminder that my mom passed away 2 years ago.

Saturday agenda-race?

Here is what I found for today:

1. live like jake 5k
2. women for women 5k/10k
3. ryan j mandel 5k
4. go run mothers day 5k

I picked the latter (closest in proximity). Unfortunately, it also was the only event where I had no chance to get on the podium! I did get a finisher medal and post race was decent. Unless you get your results race day, theyre not posted online for days.

Sunday agenda-race?

Happy mothers day!

Here is what I found for this day:

1. mothers day 5k

Guess where I went? Due to circumstances, both internal and external (weather), I didn't race but did complete the 5k helping a friend. This event offered a finisher medal better than the podium one, unless overall, who got plaques. The course was terrible as it included an undisclosed hill and 2 sharp turnarounds. There was a decent post race.

Saturday, May 05, 2018

Cinco de mayo weekend

Cinco de mayo weekend begins today. That's Spanish for 5th of may, a Mexican holiday. A rare Friday night race (TGi5k) occurred preceding today. I have to skip work in order to make this one due to time and distance (downtown palm beach), so I had to pass on it. Note: I have done it before and the event itself was fun; not the travel nor the parking.

Saturday agenda-race?

Here is what I considered for this day:

1. Jupiter turtle trot 5k
2. Haiti 5k for hope
3. big cardio 5k
4. deltas on the run 5k
5. margarita miler 5k

I passed on the latter because I couldn't find out where or what time it started. The former was furthest in distance. I picked #3.

Clint eastwood synopsis:

The good: podium (by the grace of God)
The bad: didn't win (3rd due to illness), no finisher medals, cotton t
The ugly: worst time of the year thusfar (3rd due to illness)

Sunday agenda-race?

Here is what I considered for that day (after the holiday):

1. flying pig marathon
2. music for healing 5k
3. westglades superhero 5k
4. wings for life

You can automatically rule out the former (out of FL). I picked the latter. It was an interesting event. It is known as the world run because the event start simultaneously in 35+ countries. The finish line catches you; what? There is no standard finish line like in standard races but rather each person gets a half hour head start before the catcher car is dispatched. Once it passes you, your race is officially terminated! I ran the first 5k faster than the previous day despite not really trying to; that brings hope for me.

Saturday, April 28, 2018

Final weekend of April

Final weekend of April is here! On Thursday was a race, the corporate run. I couldn't make it due to time and distance but heard it was short.

Saturday agenda-race?

Here is what I considered for the last Saturday of the month:

1. Kentucky derby marathon
2. rnr country music marathon
3. meek and mighty
4. garden of life 5k
5. dtr endurance challenge (50k, half, 7 mile and 5k trail)
6. march of dimes walk

You can automatically rule out the first 2 (out of FL). The latter was closest in proximity but was not a race; I ended up doing that anyway. It was poorly marked so I got off track many times, including following someone near the end.

Sunday agenda-race?

Here is what I considered for the last Sunday of the month:

1. big sur marathon
2. pro football hall of fame marathon
3. st anthonys triathlon
4. eat healthy, run healthy 5k
5. Cleveland clinic 5k
6. MADD dash 5k
7. Hollywood runs for Haiti 5k
8. fragile x 5k

You can automatically rule out the first 2 (out of FL). The latter was closest in proximity (within 5k of my home) but I passed on that and all others since I was preregistered for #3 (furthest in proximity after the first 2). I found out the hard way that it was cancelled (no activity), so I picked the next one.

I and most people (some of the cop's friends got through) were forced to turn around. I had to park a half mile away & jog to event area. After meeting up with some friends, I went back to car then decided to do a trail blazer run (random). About a mile in, I got attacked by birds, forcing me to turn back. I managed to get in 3 miles if you count the to and fro plus the 2 mile bird run.

Saturday, April 21, 2018

Earth day weekend

Earth day weekend is here!

Saturday agenda-race?

Here's what I considered for this day:

1. brave children 5k
2. shake, rattle and run 5k
3. Deerfield aquathon
4. covenant house 5k
5. legacy 5k

You can automatically rule out #3 because I don't swim. I chose #4, in hindsight, the worse decision podium wise, as it is the only race I had no chance. I didn't help myself by walking a couple of times as well. With no finisher medal, I left the same way I came, with nothing! Parking was horrific.

Sunday agenda-race?

It is earth day! Heres what I found:

1. napa valley half,10k,5k
2. run from the rays 5k

You can automatically rule out the former (out of FL). Guess what I did? Similar to previous in regards to podium but opposite otherwise. I got a finisher medal, raffle offered and a big post race feast, including a 'hot' meal (eggs mixture); a much better event. Oh, and sufficient parking.

My birthday weekend

My birthday weekend is here! It also is tax weekend, mid month crisis time and precedes the boston marathon.

Saturday agenda-my birthday!

Naturally, I'd like to race on my day; here's what I considered:

1. thin mint sprint (stuart)
2. run with the cops 5k
3. goliath gauntlet
4. riverwalk run
5. walk for wishes 5k
6. 7 mile bridge run

The aforementioned is listed from northernmost to southernmost. The latter was too south for me, so I picked #5. Clint synopsis:

The good: finisher medal, tech shirt, podium
The bad: 2nd age (I like to win)
The ugly: late start, had to walk x3

Afterwards, I went into the zoo with Emily and her dad (he treated me for my birthday). We did a lot of walking and some interactive exhibits.

Sunday agenda-race?

Here's what I considered for this day:

1. paws for a cause 5k
2. south beach tri
3. special Olympics 5k

The aforementioned is listed from northernmost to southernmost. I went to and completed the latter but couldn't run due to muscle tightness (I did too much previous day).

Monday agenda-race?

boston marathon!

First weekend of april!

First weekend of april! It is also the last day of Passover.

Saturday agenda-race?

Here's what I considered for the first sunday of the month:

1. run for the turtles 5k
2. coley run
3. healthy broward run
4. thin mint sprint 5k (broward)
5. superintendent 5k

The former was the furthest, while the latter, closest in proximity. The 2 races I considered (the latter plus the one I did (#3)) were the ones I couldn't place in without a really great race. Clint time:

The good: finisher medal, tech shirt, goody bag, raffle, trophies
The bad: time, rising heat
The ugly: didn't place + dropped from 4th to 5th place during post race

Sunday agenda-race?

1. gumbo limbo 10k
2. swa run away 5k
3. thin mint sprint 5k (palm beach)
4. touch of love 5k

The former was the furthest, while the latter, closest in proximity and the only one south of palm beach. I am not ready for a 10k, so I did the next one. I found out it was a trail run; not my favorite.

The good: finisher medal, tech shirt, goody bag, raffle, unique awards
The bad: time, rising heat, course
The ugly: didn't place, 10 year age groups

Horrible start of the month with no earned (podium) hardware. However, I have seen worse- Miami heat suffered a crushing loss to the knicks and the marlins set a new low, losing 20-1!

Easter weekend!

Easter weekend! This is a truly holy weekend, that was preceeded by good Friday. Passover begins today then easter tomorrow!

Saturday agenda-race?

All races for the weekend were crammed in on this day:

1. rooney's 5k
2. egg hunt du/tri

I have been to both before but not this year; I opted to train instead.

Sunday agenda-race?

Not! No one dared to schedule an event on this day. it seems a mockery was made of this holy day with easter bunnies and eggs but when I look deep into it, the eggs are buried (Jesus was hung up on a cross) and kids have to find them, much like we need to find Christ. This day is recognized because our savior rose up from grave and continued the mission until called back up by our heavenly father; Happy Easter!

Palm sunday weekend

Palm sunday weekend has arrived. the first day of spring already began on Tuesday and Palm sunday begins tomorrow.

Saturday agenda-race?

Here is what I considered for this day:

1. tomoka marathon
2. 4 paws 5k
3. womans wellness half and 5k
4. great American bacon race
5. patches 5k

You can automatically rule out the former (out of FL). I went to the latter (closest in proximity) but didn't race it; I did complete the distance.

Sunday agenda-race?

Here is what I considered for the last sunday of the month:

1. rnr dallas half
2. sunrise half
3. nsu oral cancer 5k

You can automatically rule out the former (out of FL). The latter was closest in proximity but didn't race it; instead, I did the remainder. Clint time:

The good: start weather, pace a bit faster than last week despite longer distance
The bad: temperature rose quickly, hills
The ugly: didn't place

Sunday, March 18, 2018

St paddy's weekend!

St paddy's weekend! Saint Patrick's day fell on Saturday this year.

Saturday agenda-race?

Here is what I considered for this day:

1. the Brooklyn spring half
2. music city half, 10k, 5k
3. Clewiston sugar festival 5k
4. shamrock run (10 miler and 5k)
5. st patricks 10k
6. march 4 a cure 5k

You can automatically rule out the first 2 (out of FL). The latter was closest in proximity; up the list goes further away. Due to the race the following day, I picked the 5k (#4) to train walking because that event takes me 1/3 to halfway to destination.

Sunday agenda-race?

Here is what I saw for this day:

1. wine country runs half and 5k
2. publix Georgia half
3. Sarasota half and relay
4. marco island half
5. excaliber 10 miler and 2 mile dragon slayer
6. ives 5k

You can automatically rule out the first 2 (out of FL). The latter was closest in proximity but I already pre-registered for #5, which is a 4 part series; the 3rd earns the royal crown! I was off almost 2 minutes from last year but got what I what I came for-the finisher medal and series crown!

Spring forward!

Spring forward! Daylight savings weekend is here!

Saturday agenda-race?

Here is what I found for the last day prior to the time change:

1. waterstone 5k
2. fight for air stair climb
3. bacon race

5. cc color run
6. s. florida 5k
7. ft Lauderdale shamrock run
8. giving kids a running start 5k
9. hunger walk and 5k run
10. gate river 15k

The former was the closest and first choice, while the latter, the furthest. Unfortunately, it got cancelled so I had to make another selection. My next selection was #4 but with vague info, I passed on that for #8; in hindsight, that was a wise decision. Clint synopsis:

The good: podium, start time (7:15),finisher medal, cool start
The bad: 3 age (I like to win), windy
The ugly: award (water bottle, gift certificate), cotton tshirt

Sunday agenda-race?

Here is what I found for the first day of the time change:

1. bal harbor 5k

3. Las olas triathlon/du
4. strive 5 for the hive 5k
5. gateway to space 5k/10k

The former was the closest and first choice, while the latter, the furthest.
My selection was the former but with vague info, I passed on that for the next one, bypassing the rest. Eastwood synopsis:

The good: podium, finisher ribbon, little to no wind, time improvement
The bad: 2 age (I like to win), windy, course rumored short, finisher ribbon, hotter
The ugly: award (semi generic), cotton tshirt

Conclusion:

A blessed and fruitful weekend, making the podium on both days!

Saturday, March 03, 2018

First weekend of the month!

First weekend of the month!

Saturday agenda-race?

Here is what I found for the first saturday of this weekend:

1. best damn race Orlando half
2. glow run 5k *
3. super hero 5k
4. hope 4 a cure 5k/10k

* double header possible

I passed on the former (furthest and longest) and picked the latter (Miami is closest in proximity). Clint time:

The good: podium, finisher medal, decent weather
The bad: 2nd age (I like to win), start time
The ugly: the course

Due to the travel and timing, I skipped the glow run (night event), forfeiting the double op.

Sunday agenda-race?

Here is what I found for the first sunday of this weekend:

1. rnr marti gras marathon/half
2. ft myers half
3. marathon of the treasure coast
4. 305 half and 5k
5. 5k 4 a better day

I picked the latter, passing up all distance events. Unfortunately for me, I didn't place and no finisher medals given out, despite great categories.

Conclusion:

I went from hero (Saturday) to zero (sunday).

Final weekend of the month!

Final weekend of the month!

Saturday agenda-race?

Here is what I considered for the last Saturday of the month:

1. gasparilla race weekend (15k and 5k)
2. riverbend 5k
3. sistrunk 5k *
4. outrun hunger 5k
5. women in distress 5k *
6. butterfly 5k
7. Miami walk like MADD 5k
8. live like bella 5k

With enough local events, I passed on the former. The last 2 were closest in proximity but would only be able to pick one. I found a chance to do a double header *.

Event 1 (7 am)-sistrunk 5k:

I had to contend with rain, especially prior to the race. Clint time:

The good: won age, trophy, finisher medal
The bad: I had to leave without trophy to make next event, 10 year age groups
The ugly: weather, course (had to go over tracks and around a stage)

Event 2 (9 am)-women in distress 5k:

I also had to contend with rain, but it started after a mile into the race. Naturally, I was tired and sore from the previous 5k. Eastwood time:

The good: podium, late start (allows for double), race day entry fee (25)
The bad: 2nd by a second, 10 year age groups, course (several twists and turns)
The ugly: no finisher medal, paper certificate as award, late start (if only event)

2. Disney princess half
3. florida brain cancer 5k
4. tour de broward
5. pancreatic cancer walk/run

The bad: no finisher medal, weather (hot and a bit humid)
The ugly: didn't place, 2 loop course on sand

President's day weekend

President's day weekend is here! President's day is on Monday, following this weekend. Unfortunately for me, I have to work on that day, so it's no holiday for me.

Saturday agenda-race?

Here is what I found for this day:

1. toga 5k
2. ride 4 orphans bike ride
3. ft Lauderdale 5k
4. Sheridan house 5k

The former was the furthest while the latter the closest; none were in Miami. The former started the latest (10 am) while #3 was the soonest verifiable start time. I have done all but the bike ride. I don't like the #3 venue. Both the former and latter were fun runs; I picked the latter. Clint time:

The good: finisher medal, long sleeve tech shirt
The bad: weather (hot and humid), age groups (mine was 50+), internal conditions
The ugly: no awards, course (3 loops), late start (past 9 am)

Sunday agenda-race?

Here is what I found for this day:

1. Michelob ultra el paso marathon
2. publix A1A marathon, half and 6k

You can rule out the former (out of FL) so its obvious I went to the latter. Not ready for the longer distances and higher fees, I did the 6k. This time, my internal conditions were fine. Eastwood time:

The good: finisher medal, tech shirt, podium (1 age), cooler weather (overcast), 6:30 start
The bad: late with results
The ugly: parking, results not posted online

Here's my considerations for this day:

1. barrier free 5k
2. race for faith 5k
3. love run 5k
4. CCA 5k
5. pines light up the night 5k *
6. alumni run 5k

*=night double possible
The latter was closest in proximity

Sunday agenda-race?

This is whats up for this day:

1. 26.2 with donna, half, ultra and 5k
2. publix florida marathon, half and relay
3. wellington 5k

+=late and close - double possible
The latter was closest in proximity

No brainer; #7 is a runners depot race and I must support it as a member.
I planned on and went to #9 in a double header attempt but found out the hard way that it was cancelled, despite me having a color card flyer!

Super bowl weekend!

Super bowl weekend! It is also the first weekend of the month. This year, its the patriots vs who? oh, the eagles! I am rooting for the underdog again and like I said last year b4 the falcons played (and lost), Atlanta can win unless:

1. under estimate tom brady and team (a 'big' lead at halftime is not a guarantee)
2. turnovers
3. insufficient drives (too many 3 and out)
4. stupid risks (like seattle did)
5. poor clock management

The same applies to Philadelphia.

Saturday agenda-race?

Here's my choices for this day:

1. best damn race half, 10k, 5k
2. pine jog 5k
3. run to the rescue 5k
4. im possible 1,2,3 run
5. walk for wishes broward
6. William f Boynton 5k
7. st Thomas alumni 5k

The former was the furthest while the latter, the closest, in proximity. I passed on the latter (original choice) because I took advice from runner mates and selected #6; in hindsight, good move. clint eastwood synopsis:

The good: top ten (4 oa, 3 moa), podium, raffle, start time (7 am)
The bad: only 1 oa, 1 master, cotton tshirts
The ugly: rain, award medal, I had to miss raffle to attempt double header

Event 2-walk for wishes broward

I didn't expect to make the start of this race, much less register, but due to the weather, I did catch the start. The late start (8:30 originally) allows for the double header attempt. I decided to walk the 5k (I don't want to further injuries). It was a high quantity, low quality race whereas I would've placed if I were able to sign up in time. They had a great post race spread plus had finisher medals.

Sunday agenda-race?

Super sunday selections:

1. Sarasota music half
2. Daytona beach half, 5k
3. Islamorada half, 10k
4. butterfly run
5. eagle 5k

I passed on long distance, considering only the last 2. This time I picked the closest in proximity (the latter). Clint time:

The good: finishers medal, post race spread
The bad: 8 am start, external conditions (hot (compared to previous day) and windy)
The ugly: internal conditions (felt bad), didn't place

Sunday, January 28, 2018

Final weekend of the month!

Saturday agenda-race?

Here is what I considered for the last Saturday of the month:

1. tropical 5k
2. kid hero 5k

I usually do the former but this year chose the latter. Clint time:

The good: podium, finisher medal, comfy temp
The bad: 3rd age (I walked once, forfeiting the win), time
The ugly: very windy, award medal not available (promised to mail), 2 loops

Sunday agenda-race?

Here is what I considered for the last Sunday of the month:

1. fitbit Miami marathon/half
2. dreams come true 5k

I usually do the former but this year chose the latter. Eastwood time:

The good:
The bad:
The ugly:

Sunday, January 21, 2018

E nair O!

E nair O! That's how January sounds like in Spanish!

Saturday agenda-race?

1. Clearwater marathon
2. Honda classic 5k
3. Brandons 5k
4. flippany 5k/10k
5. delta 5k

I definitely passed on the former (furthest race). I wanted #3 (best chance to place) but ended up repeating the latter.

The good: finishers medal, podium (top age), weather
The bad: ribbon award
The ugly: no tshirt, late start

Sunday agenda-race?

1. Kiwanis scholarship 5k
2. rainbow 5k
3. fd now 5k
4. run with rabbi 5k

I planned on the latter but denied. I was offered #3 after committing to the former.

The good: podium, cool
The bad: 3 ag (I like to win), weather (windy)
The ugly: no finisher medal

2. ringling bridge run 4 miler
3. run for education
4. jpt Trojan trot (fun run)
5. zo's family groove 5k
6. run4kids 5k

You can automatically rule out the former (out of US). With enough local events, you can rule out the next one. I ended up picking the latter.

The good: podium, weather
The bad: 3 ag (I like to win), medal (no trophy)
The ugly: no finisher medal, cap instead of tshirt

Sunday agenda-race?

1. rnr Arizona marathon
2. key west half
3. naples half
4. ft pierce half
5. Ocala half
6. st pete beach half
7. vista view 360 ultra
8. steps for life 5k

This was a half crazy day, literally! You can automatically rule out the former (out of FL). With enough local events, you can rule out 2,4, and 5. I would to #7 but I already pre registered for #3. It was very cold (mid 40). Glass half-

Full: finisher medal, long sleeve tech shirt, best half time since naples last year
Empty: still didn't break 2 hrs, pasta party discontinued, hotel expensive, the drive

Monday agenda-Martin Luther king 5k

The good: podium, trophy, better than last years time, weather
The bad: 2 oa
The ugly: missed by 1 second, not a raffle winner (suspect my entry withheld)

Summary (countdown)

3 events, hardware
2 awards
1 trophy, medal, finisher medal

First weekend of the new year!

First weekend of the new year! Prior to this weekend, Disney had 2 fun runs (5k on Thursday, 10k yesterday) that, when completed with this weekend, form the dopey challenge. I never considered that because I have to take off 5 days to do that (must pick up packets day prior to first event) and I am lucky to get a day off! On top of that, the cost is prohibitive. However, if I get blessed winning in the lottery, it will be on my list.

Here is what I considered for the first Saturday of month:

1. Disney half marathon (half of goofy)
2. save the panther 5k

I didn't realize this was an anniversary weekend for the former but the entry fee is too high anyway. I normally would take the latter, but since it was kind of far and ten year age groups, I opted to train instead. It was a wise decision, as I would not have placed and there were no finisher medals.

Here is what I considered for the first Sunday of month:

1. Disney marathon (half of goofy)

Since I passed on Disney, I found no other race to do. I did my first inline skate of the year instead!

In with the new '18

In with the new '18

Happy new year! In with the new '18. Wishing you all an active, injury free athletic year. I want to put all the bad experiences of last year behind and  move on to hopefully better ones this year. I shall cherish the positive memories of last year, but unfortunately, be compelled to deal with any lingering situations this year. Traditionally, we make resolutions, and like bones, they may be broken. My top ten list will include the usual, some will be continuations, some may be possible and some may be improbable, but it doesn't hurt to dream. Come to think of it, didn't Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr do that? Obama is certainly thankful.

Top ten resolutions for this year (not necessarily in order):

1. Continued athletic success, especially with racing and competition.
2. Health.
3. Wealth.
4. Wisdom.
5. Employment.
6. Training (stepped up).
7. Change.
8. Teamwork.
9. Diet.
10. Travel.

Now it's time to expound on those resolutions.

1. Last year, I did 72 races, which is a bit more less than the previous year, but less than I am used to. This was largely due to health issues, plus the usual relationship issues, forcing me to divert my energies elsewhere; I'd prefer to be with someone. Although I'd like to match or beat my highest total of races in a single year, my main goal is continuation; march of last year marked 2 decades + 6 years since I began competing.
2. To do the aforementioned, I must maintain good health, largely through fitness and diet. That means I still won't smoke or drink, I never use drugs and naturally, do my best to avoid injury and illness.
3. This resolution has always failed but you never know; this might be the year. Maybe I'll get rich the easy way by winning in the powerball, lotto, fantasy 5 or the hard way with some breakthrough opportunity.
4. Hopefully, as I progress, this continues to improve. I made it this far through trial and error,  experiences. Thus far, 2 out of 3 (healthy, wealthy and wise) has been my case.
5. Since the quick fix (lottery) has thus far never panned out, I'll need to keep my job to survive.
6. To get the glory (race win), one must train. I plan to up the ante with quality workouts, such as speed work and long runs, which I have been notorious for missing.
7. Obama's slogan. He is the change America needs. However, I too, must utilize this. I revolve to make some adjustments in my normal scheme of things. Like Rick Scott says, 'let's get to work'.
8. I want to continue doing relays, both as a team captain and participant. In 2008, I eliminated most series participation, in lieu of individual events because I sacrificed too many running races that I loved the previous year. I will likely adhere to this resolution this year (limit to 2 series or less). However, I want to increase the number of individual relay races.
9. Continue and hopefully improve upon my nutritional regimen, such as my no meat diet.
10. I will travel as necessary, meaning doing only races that have some significance or purpose to me. I'll try to avoid just racing to race if it is far.

Today's agenda-1st event of the year

I usually do the run, walk, crawl 5k. I always picked it because it is extremely difficult to find a racewalk with awards. However, after I got ripped off (the guy given the title had jogged throughout and many witnessed that but the race director bought his bogus explanation that he learned a new walk technique) my overall win 2 years ago, with the insult to injury being that the cheater was put on a pedestal, I promised myself that if another opportunity arose to do something else, I'll take that. So, I did just that:

I had 3 choices this year:

1. 8 am-run, walk, crawl 5k
2. 9 am-resolution 5k
3. 10 am-commit 2 b fit 5k

I did the former in the past, so I went back to the next one this year since the latter has the latest start time.

The rules of the game have changed. No overall nor age group awards. However, top 50 finishers get a 'gold distinction' medal, next 50 silver, and the rest bronze. Since I chose to racewalk (what I often do on the first day but this time, to reduce further injury), I got the latter. All participants were allowed to take whatever previous race awards. There was a finisher clock and mile markers but no one was scored.

Conditions were much hotter with the 9 am start. Thankfully, It was partly cloudy and a cold front this weekend, which did keep some of the heat down; there was some wind. I got a generic tshirt and a bib number (no time chip) was issued.

FYI

You may have noticed much of this blog seemed like a carbon copy of the previous year's post. Testament of how life can be so similar yet so different.
