Out with the old '17

Out with the old '17

This is the final day of this year, 2017. Kinda glad to see it go in many ways. Time to recap the year with Conan Obrien's top ten (not necessarily in order), Clint Eastwood style. *=Many are the same as last year. + is positive, - is negative (still bad).

Happy new year! See you next year.

PS: Most Ugly:

1. George McCuen passed away

Great news:

1. despite worse injuries, I completed more events
2. Cheryl's youngest kid is having a kid
3. I got on the podium on the last day of this year (2 age).

Final weekend of the year

Final weekend of the year has arrived!

Here is what I found for the last Saturday of the year:

nothing! I pulled out my inlines and rolled for 4 miles instead.

Here is what I found for the last Sunday of the year:

1. delray half
2. boca 5k

I bet you noticed they are both in palm beach, so I had a long drive up. The latter was the closest in proximity, plus I am not ready to close out the year with a long run.

The good: podium, cool weather, finisher medal
The bad: t shirt, 2 age
The ugly: listed as won age but bumped to 2nd

Praise the Lord, I close out the year on the podium!

Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas! also, happy holidays; Hanukkah ended this past wednesday, winter officially began thursday, yesterday was noche Buena for Hispanics (Christmas eve for most of us)and Kwanzaa tomorrow.

Too many want to be 'politically' correct, rather than actually correct because Jesus is the reason for the season. Today is Christmas, so keep your holiday cards and holiday gifts under your holiday tree decorated with holiday ornaments because that vague term can apply to any holiday, including martin luther king jr day and easter! Yet, I don't this display for other holidays that can be happy too. Therefore, I give Christmas cards and gifts, set up my Christmas tree, decorated with Christmas ornaments!

I call today Christmas eve eve! Here is what I considered:

1. jingle bell jog

Yeah, I know; lots of choices. Eastwood time:

The good: finisher medal
The bad: late start, weather
The ugly: I didn't place, no tshirt

Sunday agenda-race?

No, but I did the 12 miles of Christmas fun long run. I saw a lot of athlete friends. Glass time: half-

Full: free, long run completed, cool start time (near 6:15), raffle
Empty: didn't get tshirt, ended hot, only 2 water stations, missed by 1 # in raffle

Mid month crisis

Mid month crisis is here; the last of this year! There was a race mid week (holiday mile) but time and distance prevented me from attending. Beside, I am not in shape to compete in that. Friday agenda-George McCuen funeral Saturday agenda-race? 1. jingle bell jog bahamas 2. jingle bell jog tampa 3. jingle bell jog naples 4. jingle bell jog delray 5. its a wonderful run Well, you probably guessed that I did the latter. Clint time: The good: podium The bad: 2 age (I like and almost won) The ugly: no finisher medal Sunday agenda-race? 1. jingle bell jog ft lauderdale 2. jingle bell jog Miami 3. jingle bell wellington 4. lace em up on the levee 5k/10k 5. hot chocolate 15k/5k The latter was the furthest so I picked the closest, #2. However, I found out it was near downtown Miami, presenting many problems: 1. parking location 2. parking fees 3. traffic the race director/timing company never answered questions completely regarding race, making it too risky to attempt, especially since the entry fee was higher than normal. I opted to train instead.

Pre Hanukkah weekend!

Pre Hanukkah weekend! Saturday agenda-race? Here is what I considered for this day: 1. 13.1 durham half 2. babcock ranch jingle bell 5k 3. triKW du/tri 4. river run 5k 5. kakes 4 kids 5k 6. beach n beer mile You can automatically rule out the former (out of FL). #2 was on west side of FL, #3 key west, and the latter in Islamorada; I passed on all those. Of the remaining, I took #4. Glass time: half- Full: finisher medal Empty: injury prevented me from placing + missed a race I could have Sunday agenda-race? 1. Honolulu marathon 2. nova jingle bell 5k 3. FL west coast half 4. Weston half and 5k 5. BVF 5k You can automatically rule out the first 2 (out of FL). #3 was on west side of FL; I skipped that. Of the remaining, I took #4. I need to do more long runs so I passed on the 5k for the half. I actually 'ran' faster than at space coast but was pleased that I didn't walk at all.

First weekend of the last month of the year!

First weekend of the last month of the year! Last night, a rare Friday night race-bill bone 5k. I had to pass due to distance. Saturday agenda-race? Here is what I selected for the first Saturday of the month: 1. key west southern most marathon 2. OUC half 3. santas on the run 5k 4. north creek explorer 5k* 5. holiday family fun day 5k and mile 6. jingle bell 5k* To put it short, I decided to stay close to home and found 2 venues within Miami-the latter 2. * double header op. #5 contained 2 events, so I actually completed 3. Morning Event 1-5k The good: finisher medal, post race The bad: time slow The ugly: I didn't place Morning Event 2-mile Glass time: half- Full: finisher medal, post race Empty: I didn't place esp since I walked. Thanksgiving weekend

Thanksgiving weekend is here!

Thursday agenda-race!

First of all, happy thanksgiving! There are tons of races on this day, an athletes dream! I force to reduce the selection to the following, but could only pick one:

1, run 4 the pies
2. jcc turkey trot 5k
3. tamarac turkey trot
4. ft lauderdale  turkey trot
5. baptist  turkey trot
6. Thanksgiving day 5k

Believe it or not, I been there, done that for all except maybe #4. Well, this time I chose the closest in proximity, #5. Time for the Eastwood synopsis:

The good: finished with an ok time (just over 25, walked once), finisher medal
The bad: weather got hot quick, course
The ugly: definitely didn't place, denied first stall, even though I signed up, packet pickup line

Friday agenda-race?

Not! unless you participate in the black Friday madness.

Saturday agenda-race?

It's small business Saturday.

Here is what I found:

1. mr thanksgiving du/tri
2. bull run 5k

I had to pass on that to prepare for the next day. Lots of history this day. For me, it is the day I would run the jingle down mainstreet in Miami lakes but unfortunately, it was cancelled many moons ago.

Sunday agenda-race?

I only considered doing the space coast marathon. It is the 5th of the series, 4rd for me since I got locked out of the first one. I really wanted to sign up for the half but it sold out (registration began while I was doing A1A marathon). Unfortunately for me, after wardrobe malfunction (dropped glasses at mile 2), I couldn't get back in my groove. I took the worm hole once again (half) but got the perks I paid for.

Monday agenda-cyber Monday

Well, I'm not getting involved with that.

Saturday, November 18, 2017

No V M bray!

No V M bray! That's how November sounds like in Spanish. Saturday agenda-race? Here is what I considered for today: 1.queens half 2. delray turkey trot 5k 3. super hero 5k * 4. running with heroes 5k 5. coral springs 911 5k 6. run the race 5k 7. honor our veterans 5k 8. childrens bereavement 5k You can automatically rule out the former (out of FL). *=Double header possible with any of the remaining plus this event. Well, since I am no spring chicken and that race was quite far, I passed on it. The latter was closest in proximity (zoo Miami) but I already committed to #7 (5k race trilogy). Glass time. Half- Full: finisher medal, completed the trilogy, cooler start Empty: didn't place, time Sunday agenda-race? Here is what I considered for this day: 1. st pete run fest half 2. naples fall classic half 3. purple stride 5k 4. zen run 5k 5. rib rockin 10k run With enough local races, I automatically passed on the first 2. In fact, as part of runners depot, I had to take the latter as it is put on by the store. Glass time. Half- Full: finisher medal, cool start, 7 am start time, finished longest post injury run Empty: didn't place, (not even close), time (barely under an hour), denied backpack

Veterans weekend

Veterans weekend is here! It is also the mid month crisis weekend. Friday agenda-veterans day! This is the observed day, in which most people have the day off, including yours truly! Kudos to all veterans, alive or not, who honorably served our nation. Saturday agenda-race? This day is actually veteran's day. Here is what I considered for veterans day: 1. DC half 2. Nashville marathon and half 3. Orlando marathon 4. Myakka river half 5. friends of the poor 5k 6. soldier rush obstacle 7. fantasy of lights 5k * 8. key Biscayne lighthouse run 10k/5k 9. zoo run 5k You can automatically rule out the first 2 (out of FL). With enough local events, pass on the next 2. *Double header possible when done with a morning event. I wimped out and chose the latter (closest in proximity). Clint eastwood time: The good: finished a bit faster than last week, finisher medal The bad: rain prior, puddles on course The ugly: more twisty course, got bumped to 4th age plus only top age wins I must not do this one again! Sunday agenda-race? Here is what I considered for this day: 1. rnr las vegas marathon and half 2. make a difference 5k 3. beacon of hope 5k 4. ft Lauderdale 13.1 & 5k 5. golden beach 5k 6. Miami man tri/du You can automatically rule out the former (out of FL). The last 2 were in Miami, while the latter was closest in proximity. I went to both but competed at #5. Clint synopsis time: The good: finisher medal, 5 oa The bad: rain, course (3x cul-de-sac) The ugly: no awards Summary Saturday, I lost twice- first, got bumped to 4 age, then informed only top of each places. sunday, I didn't get chance to place since it was a fun run (unbeknownst to me).

Fall back!

Fall back! Its daylight savings weekend. Saturday agenda-race? Here is what I found on the first Saturday of the month: 1. rnr savannah marathon 2. heroes for education 5k 3. steps for sos 5k 4. victor e dash to fight cancer 5k 5. take steps for crohns and coltis 6. chris page 5k 7. full moon trail run (10 miles) 8. ryan owens beach run (4 miler) 9. live ultimate 5k 10. humana 5k You can automatically rule out the former (out of FL). My wallet help me decide through all those races; the latter was free! Glass time: half Full- free, finisher medal, clock at finish Empty- no awards (fun run), rain, no tshirts Sunday agenda-race? Here is what I found on the first Sunday of the month: 1. NYC marathon 2. Disney wine and dine half 3. ft myers beach marathon 4. sun capital half 5. zero prostate run 6. cranksgiving (bike ride) 7. Miami shores 5k 8. American cancer 5k You can automatically rule out the former (out of FL); although, I have done it before. I really need to do 1 of the top 4 listed events since I am registered for a marathon in 3 weeks but I passed on that for a 5k. The latter 2 were closest in proximity (Miami); I chose #6. It is clint eastwood time: The good: podium, long sleeve tech shirt, time better than last week. The bad: 2nd (I like to win), time worse than last year The ugly: no finisher medal, 2 loop course with many turns

Halloween weekend

Halloween weekend is here! However, Halloween doesn't start officially until Tuesday. Still, trick or treat applies. This is the final weekend of October. Saturday agenda-race? Here is what I considered for the last Saturday of the month: 1. 13.1 Charleston half 2. phantom run 5k 3. every boob counts 5k 4. trick or treat 5k 5. Miami beach Halloween half/freaky 4 miler 6. Miami childrens 5k You can automatically rule out the former (out of FL). The latter 2 were closest in proximity; also in dade county. I don't remember ever doing #3, so I picked that; in hindsight, bad move. Clint style: The good: finisher medal, not as hot (overcast) The bad: still humid, distance to race, post race The ugly: sudden overnight injury prevented me from placing (trick) Sunday agenda-race? Here is what I considered for the last Saturday of the month: 1. treasure coast Halloween 13.1 2. wellington 10 miler & 5k 3. spooktacular 5k The former was furthest in proximity while the latter, the closest; none in dade county. The good: podium (1 age=treat), time much faster (-2 min), finisher medal, cooler temp The bad: time still slow, wet, twisty course with some puddles, windy The ugly: injury still present (much less, praise God) Overview Saturday=trick while sunday=treat

Sep T M Bray

Sep T M Bray; that's how September sounds in Spanish! Saturday agenda-race? Here is what I considered for this day: 1. napa valley wine country marathon 2. marine corps marathon 3. 5k ghost run 4. super hero 5k* 5. funky fun run+ (afternoon event) 6. hair peace 5k 7. schott run, walk, crawl *=postponed or cancelled +=double header op You can automatically rule out the first 2 (out of FL); I once did MCM, and although challenging, I enjoyed it. My first option was #4 but it got cancelled due to FEMA operations. Therefore, I picked the latter but my team entry was turned down, which would force me to pay again. If I going to do that, I'd rather try a different event, so #6 (I found out the night before by god's grace) was my choice. Glass time: half- Empty- top 3 overall only, no age groups, I didn't know course (barely marked) and made a wrong turn, taking me out of the lead, winner had a time I usually beat but I'm very injured Full- by God's grace, I took the last spot (3 pl trophy) plus got a finisher medal The double header was foiled by the following: 1. GPS took me to same address in a different city 2. I got to site but most roads blocked 3. signage for parking lead to a dead end; I had to find another way 4. after parking, not enough time to register; I had to just watch Sunday agenda-race? Here is what I planned for this day: 1. marine corps marathon 2. Toronto marathon 3. 70.3 ironman Miami 4. fire hero 5k 5. bal harbor 5k You can automatically rule out the first 2 (out of FL). Without a swimmer, #3 is not possible for me. The latter was closest in proximity but as a runners depot racer, #4 was the selection. I knew I was outmatched so I didn't run my best. I left as I came-with nothing!

Mid month crisis

Mid month crisis is here!

Saturday agenda-race?

Here is what I considered for this day:

1. cops and joggers 5k (pm)
2. FL international air show 5k
3. light ones path 5k
4. 5k glow run (pm)
5. pursuit of honor 5k
6. komen race for the cure 5k

A double header was possible (the former and #3 are night events). The first 2 were on the west side. I could've placed at #3 and #5. The latter was closest in proximity. Sadly, I missed all of the above, for naught, waiting in line to get denied hurricane relief.

Sunday agenda-race?

Here is what I had on the schedule for this day:

1. rnr Denver half
2. rnr st Louis half
3. elite 10 miler
4. buddy walk and 5k run
5. devil dog 5k
6. adva race for hope 5k
7. fired up 5k/10k
8. mr bonus round du/tri

You can automatically rule out the first 2 (out of FL). The next, I usually do but was also on the west side. The latter was closest in proximity but I am not ready for it. The last 2 were in Miami. Well, unfortunately, I didn't do any because the arrangements for the race I planned on (#6) fell through.

I did finish the 5k but decided to walk.

Sunday, October 08, 2017

Columbus day weekend

Columbus day weekend is also the first full weekend of the month! We are still suffering from the effects of the hurricane. An * will denote race was either postponed or cancelled; KVJ 5k (scheduled this past Thursday) was the first casualty.

Saturday agenda-race?

Here is what I found for the first Saturday of the month:

1. hard rock half *
2. goliath gauntlet
3. st Andrew run
4. think pink, run red 5k
5. BK 5k

The latter was closest in proximity but was on sand, so I pass. #2 was an obstacle course; strike 2. I wound up doing #4. Clint style:

The good: top master (^), 4 oa, finisher medal
The bad: heat and humidity
The ugly: ^no master given (1 ag), no tshirt

Sunday agenda-race?

Here is what I found for this day:

1. Chicago marathon
2. beer fest 5k *
3. Julia's star 5k
4. parkland 5 miler and 5k dash
5. rock and run 5k

You can automatically rule out the former (out of FL). The latter was closest in proximity. I ended up doing #4. Eastwood style:

The good: 2 ag, finisher medal
The bad: heat and humidity, 2 ag (I like to be first)
The ugly: time slower

Monday agenda-race?

Not! On top of that, the state doesn't recognize this holiday, so I have to work.

Saturday, September 30, 2017

Fall transition weekend

Fall transition weekend is here!

Saturday agenda-race?

Today marks Yom kippur. Here's what I considered for the last day of this month:

1. naked feet 5k
2. kidney pump 5k
3. kijana 5k
4. madd dash 5k
5. optime 5k
6. beer run 5k
7. glory run 5k

The first 3 were in or palm beach. The latter was the closest in proximity. However, I picked #5.
A double header opportunity presented itself with #6, an evening race.

Sunday agenda-race?

Here's what I considered for the first day of the next month:

1. duns run 5k/10k
2. walk for wishes 5k
3. loco rio 8k
4. Miami marlins 5k

A double header opportunity was vaguely possible with the latter starting at 10 but would be a long shot. I would have to complete the 5k fast, then leave and go there directly, but the distance between is quite far, so is quite unlikely. Hindsight: If I had the money (already paid for 2 races prior), #2 would have guaranteed placement (nobody entered my age group). Instead, I picked the former, also furthest in proximity.

Saturday, September 23, 2017

First day of fall

First day of fall; Autumn is here! Just prior was rosh Hashanah.

Saturday agenda-race?

1. big sur trail marathon
2. tunnel to towers 5k
3. zero prostate cancer run

You can automatically rule out the former (out of FL). The latter was moved. Unfortunately, I didn't feel well enough to go to, not to mention compete, in the remaining event; I trained instead.

Sunday agenda-race?

1. rnr montreal marathon
2. napa half marathon
3. 13.1 charlotte half
4. teal 5k
5. donate life 5k
6. escape to Miami tri
7. American cancer 5k

You can automatically rule out the first 3 (out of FL). The latter 2 were closest in proximity but I actually forgot about #7 and needed a swimmer for #6 (eliminating this choice). Therefore, I  considered the remaining 2; I planned on #4 but did #5; this was a blessing in disguise.

#4 was considered because it stated there were finisher medals and since I haven't run in 2 months, plus it isn't on any of the normal timing company schedules, I felt this was the best option. Well, Emily ran it and she reported that after finishing, she won her age group (20-29), then it was changed to top 3 age group regardless of sex, bumping her out and costing her a trophy!

#5, I did previously and 2 years ago, I was able to place in my age group but there were no finisher medals. Ya'll know I am not in any condition like I was but runner's depot selected me to represent at this race. Clint time:

The good: top ten male, top age, finisher medal
The bad: delayed til 8 due to lightning, time
The ugly: forgot my finishers medal, awards to be mailed

This was my first race since Irma and first time actually running in 2 month; thank you Lord!

Saturday, September 16, 2017

Post hurricane Irma

Post hurricane Irma; the aftermath! The most damage occurred where the eye hit, cudjoe key. However, there was widespread damage all over the state as it went north, first continuing on the west side (marco island, naples), through central (tampa, near Orlando) and past north florida, near the capital into Georgia and beyond. As of this post, still are large percentage of florida out of power. Of course, this affects the race scene. A rare Thursday night 5k (sprint and sip) was postponed.

Saturday agenda-race?

1. red sox fenway park marathon
2. air force marathon
3. marine corps half
4. mr ft Desoto du/tri
5. friends of the poor 5k

You can automatically rule out the first 3 (out of FL). The remaining were postponed, therefore, all I could do is train.

Sunday agenda-race?

1. navy-air force half
2. rnr PA half
3. the next step is the cure 5k
4. optime 5k
5. golden beach 5k
6. bad ass trail race 5k/10k

You can automatically rule out the first 2 (out of FL). The rest were either postponed, or cancelled, except the latter, which I found out after the fact, was still on. I went to #5, and found out the hard way it too was cancelled, however, without notice.

Well, since I went all the way up there, I intended to 'run' and did such as training. However, not at golden beach but rather, Aventura. The 5k went well.

Conclusion:

The obvious, no races!

Thursday, September 07, 2017

Hurricane Irma!

Hurricane Irma! It started up last week and has steadily approached, building up to a category 5, bigger and stronger than hurricane Andrew, wider than florida at about 700 miles. Check out what I had planned; naturally, all have been cancelled but some moved to another date.

Saturday agenda:

1. remember the fallen 5k/10k
2. jeff annas firefighter 5k
3. coral springs remembrance 5k
4. sickle cell 5k
5. tunnels to towers 5k
6. ups 5k

The former was the furthest (FL west coast), while the latter was closest in Miami, near where I used to work; all nullified by Irma!

Sunday agenda:

1. fire hero 5k
2. mr trilogy du/tri bonus round

The former was the first race scheduled by runner's depot this running season, while the latter was the last of the trilogy series; all nullified by Irma!

This no doubt is an early post because once it arrives, I will likely not have power. Prayers out to all, including my family, friends and I.

Labor day weekend

Labor day weekend is here! Best of all, so is the running season! Therefore, by the grace of God, I shall attempt a trifecta.

Saturday agenda-race?

Here is what I found for the first Saturday of the month:

1. save the jaguar 5k
2. art walk 4 autism 5k
3. gorun labor day 5k

I found a race in my normal tri-county area, with the former the furthest and the latter the closest in proximity. Guess which one I did?

Naturally, I took the latter, especially since gas prices went up since hurricane Harvey. Clint synopsis:

The good: completed my first 5k of the '17-'18 run season, finisher medal
The bad: still hot and humid, not cleared to run
The ugly: obviously, didn't place; however, even healthy, I wouldn't have (way too fast)

Sunday agenda-race?

Here is what I found for the first Sunday of the month:

1. Disneyland half, 10k, 5k
2. rnr Virginia beach half, 5k
3. mr labor day du/tri
4. king of the hill 5k

You can automatically rule out the first 2 (out of FL). I not in the shape for the next plus I already signed up for the latter. Eastwood synopsis:

The good: completed my second 5k of the '17-'18 run season, finisher medal
The bad: still hot and humid, not cleared to run
The ugly: obviously, didn't place; however, even healthy, I wouldn't have. I walked beside a friend to do a surprisingly decent time, considering. She was amazed that my walk was about as fast as her running.

Monday agenda-race?

Here is what I found for the first Monday of the month:

1. canes cross country classic
2. john clay 5k
3. labor day 5k

I have done the former but it is the furthest away. The next is also on the west coast, so I picked the latter. Clint Eastwood time:

The good: completed my third 5k of the '17-'18 run season, thus completing the trifecta
The bad: still hot and humid, not cleared to run
The ugly: no finisher medal, obviously, didn't place; however, if healthy, I could have

In conclusion, the count down:

3 events (5k) completed
2 finisher medals
1 great weekend (trifecta completed)
0 awards (boo hoo)

Saturday, August 26, 2017

Last weekend of the month

Last weekend of the month is already here! Prior to this weekend, a total eclipse occurred on Monday in certain parts of the world; where I live, about 78 %. Also, hurricane Harvey began and went through much of texas, causing great damage.

Saturday agenda-race?

Here is what I found on the last Saturday of the month:

1. rampage 5k
2. tutu 2 mile fun run
3. greek 5k (fun run)
4. down2earth trail runs

Unfortunately, I didn't race for the following reasons:

1. not cleared to run
2. projected to rain
3. a bit far (naples) or only a fun run, except the latter (trail)

I opted to train instead, but was attacked early in by a bee, forcing me to jog back; I finished walking at home.

Sunday agenda-race?

Here is what I found on the last Saturday of the month:

1. summers end 5k fun run

Besides not being cleared to run, I passed on the afformentioned for the following reasons:

1. fun run
2. far (palm beach)
3. nite event

Therefore, time to train. I completed 3 1/2 miles. Please wish me luck for a better month coming up; this one was disastrous for me.

Total eclipse weekend

Total eclipse weekend. The event actually will occur on Monday, along with the first day of school but this weekend precedes it. It seems like a total eclipse on races as well.

Saturday agenda-race?

Here's what I located the Saturday prior to the eclipse:

1. jasper highlands half (TN)
2. ft Desoto du/tri

You can automatically rule out the former (out of FL); I only picked it because like the name. I passed on the latter due to both distance and lack of training. Instead I decided to train locally.

 Sunday agenda-race?

Here's what I located the Sunday prior to the eclipse:

 I couldn't find any so a training I went.

Near mid month crisis

Near mid month crisis is here! Officially on Tuesday; along the way, I have jury duty and physical therapy.

Saturday agenda-race?

Here is what I considered for today:

1. 13.1 grand rapids
2. cape 5k

You can automaticaly rule out the former (out of FL). I passed on the later (west side of FL) and instead, did some training.

Sunday agenda-race?

Here is what I considered for this day:

1. trilogy #3 du/tri

Let's try this clint style:

The good: I went to the aforementioned event and volunteered, no wind
The bad: hot and humid
The ugly: didn't compete

Saturday, August 05, 2017

First weekend of the month

First weekend of the month is here! And it is hot as heck!

Saturday agenda-race?

Here is what I found for the first Saturday of the month:

1. greyhound dash 5k
2. furnace 5k
3. loggerhead tri
4. cobra 5k

I did the latter because it was closest in proximity. However, it still was far (Boynton beach)! Yesterday, I went to a specialist and was still not given the all clear to run, so I walked. I actually did better than expected but no award for that; I did get a finisher medal.

Sunday agenda-race?

Here is what I found for the first Sunday of the month:

1. wob 4k

Guess what I did? Well, I experienced some back pain and didn't recover with enough time to make the trip up (1 1/2 hrs) so I opted to train; I did over a 5k.

Saturday, July 29, 2017

Last weekend of the month

Last weekend of the month is here!

Saturday agenda-race?

Here is what I could find for the last Saturday of the month:

1. eagle lakes 5k

Guess what I did? Well, normally I would've but since not yet cleared to run and it is a bit far, I passed on that to train. I got attacked to 2 occasions by a bee, one stung me in the finger while I was passing a couple with a dog!

Sunday agenda-race?

Here is what I could find for the last Sunday of the month:

1. huntingtons disease tri

Guess what I did? I couldn't compete without a swimmer but I did visit. I did some training prior, rode to event, said hello to some friends, then rode back.

Who lee oh!

Who lee oh! That's how july sounds in Spanish. Still a racing drought, still injured. There was a rare Thursday night race prior to this weekend. It was in palm beach, so I had to miss that due to work and distance.

Saturday agenda-race?

Here is what I could muster up for today:

1. downtown dash 5k
2. Hemmingway sunset run

The former was far north (stuart) while the latter was far south (key west). I passed on both due to the distance and my internal condition. Therefore, I opted to train; 5k+ walking.

Sunday agenda-race?

Here is what I could muster up for this day:

Nada! That means nothing in Spanish. Therefore, I opted to train; 5k+ walking.

Saturday, July 15, 2017

Mid month crisis

Mid month crisis is upon us! For starters, not many races.

Saturday agenda-race?

Here's what I found for today:

1. beat the heat 5k

I didn't feel well last night so I definitely passed on the only race I spotted because it is on the west side of FL, at least an hour and a half away. I decided to train.

Sunday agenda-race?

Here's what I found for this day:

1. napa to Sonoma wine country half marathon
2. rnr Chicago half
3. fun fit 5k
4. mr trilogy du/tri

You can automatically rule out the first 2 (out of FL). The next is not a race and not timed; I skip that. I am not cleared to run so the latter is out as well. So guess what? I trained doing a reverse du, but walked instead of run.

Yes, I am frustrated!

Saturday, July 08, 2017

Racing furlough

Racing furlough. I call this weekend that due to lack of races and my internal condition (injury).

Saturday agenda-race?

Here is what I discovered for this day:

1. tri fort de soto
2. down2earth 5k/10k cross country
3. mlb all star electric run

With the last being a night run, a double header was possible. Now the reasons why I passed on all of the above.

1. the furthest of all events. as a tri, I need a swimmer. I could do a do but haven't fully recovered, so no.
2. I don't like the terrain
3. a fun run, plus venue is in downtown Miami. Do you realize how busy it will be there, not to mention the parking nightmare?

Naturally, I did some training.

Sunday agenda-race?

Here is what I discovered for this day:

1. down2earth 5k/10k trail

Guess what I did? Ok, refer to #2 of the reasons I passed (previous day) on racing today. More training but this time 3 miles in a row.

Saturday, July 01, 2017

Independence weekend

Independence weekend is upon us! It is also the first weekend of the month.

Saturday agenda-race?

This is what I found for the first Saturday of the month:

1. freedom 5k

Guess where I went? Clint time:

The good: finisher medals, age groups
The bad: cotton tshirt, heat and humidity
The ugly: I didn't even get to keep the cotton tshirt (indian given), couldn't run due to injury

Sunday agenda-race?

This is what I found for the first Sunday of the month:

1. American sprint du/tri
2. loco rio 8k

The former was in naples, while the latter in broward. Normally, I would've taken the latter but I surcame to injuries; I did light training instead.

Monday agenda-work

Tuesday agenda-race?

Happy Independence day! Too many to list on this  holiday, so here is what I would consider:

1. freedom 5k
2. run for honor
3. USA Independence day 5k
4. moe's firecracker 5k
5. run 4 freedom
6. Independence day du/tri
7. Weston hometown 5k
8. 4th of july 5k

The first four are all on the west side (of FL). With enough local events on my side, I pass on those. I took the latter, closest in proximity. Eastwood time:

The good: finisher medals, age groups, tech shirt, 1 loop course, shaved off 6 minutes from prior 5k
The bad: heat and humidity, twists and turns
The ugly: couldn't run due to injury, would've lost even if I could run

Saturday, June 24, 2017

Final weekend of the month

Final weekend of the month is here! The first official day of summer began this past Wednesday.

Saturday agenda-race?

1. triumph 5k
2. down to earth cross country half/10k/5k

The former was the furthest while the latter was the closest in proximity; I picked the former.

The good: podium, finisher medal, start time, decent time*
The bad: 2nd age (I like to win), hot and humid
The ugly: *rumored that course was short

Sunday agenda-race?

1. kona full, half, quarter marathon and 5k

You can automatically rule out the former (out of FL). I couldn't find any races so therefore, off I train. I struggled but completed 8 miles on inlines followed by 2 miles easy job/walk.

Saturday, June 17, 2017

Father's day weekend

Father's day weekend is here!

Saturday agenda-race?

Here's what I found the day prior:

1. grandma's marathon
2. 13.1 Roanoke marathon
3. sugden stride 5k
4. summer sizzler 5k
5. veterans 5k
6. run 4 the sea 4 miler

You can automatically rule out the first 2 (out of FL). Of the remaining, the latter was closest in proximity but yet still far (Jupiter); the rest were on the west coast of FL. Unfortunately for me, I didn't feel well, so I didn't do any; opted to train on my inlines.

Sunday agenda-race?

Here's what I found on father's day:

1. rnr seattle marathon
2. dad's day dash 5k
3. trilogy du/tri 1

You can automatically rule out the former (out of FL). The latter was closest in proximity, but I chose the 5k. clint synopsis time:

The good: finisher medal, podium, volunteered
The bad: 5 min headstart for women, weather (hot and humid)
The ugly: forgot race # in car, my time not adjusted put me as 3rd age plus poor time

Saturday, June 10, 2017

Who knee oh

Who knee oh; that's how june sounds in Spanish. This weekend begins a racing drought, contrary to all the rain we have received thus far all week.

Friday agenda-NW track and field classic day 1

Naturally, I couldn't make any event on this day

Saturday agenda-race?

1. no child wet behind 5k
2. NW track and field classic day 2

Guess what I did? After the former, I visited the latter but it was raining cats and dogs, so I passed on it again. This was one of those obscure races that Jon finds. Ironically, he was the one timing the event. Clint eastwood time:

The good: podium, top ten, overcast (reduce heat)
The bad: got passed by a woman, no finisher medal, 2nd (by 10 seconds), walked once
The ugly: start time (8), late start (delay), course (including blocked by a gate) not clearly marked, humidity, medal, post race (no oranges nor sports drink), no lead cyclist/vehicle, part on grass

Sunday agenda-race?

1. NW track and field classic day 3
2. DTR moonlight run (trail, I believe)

Guess what I did? Not race! Instead, I trained. I did just over 8 1/2 miles (walked 2 near end due to the extreme heat and humidity).

Sunday, June 04, 2017

Hurricane season opener

Hurricane season opener - officially began on Thursday; this is the first weekend.

Saturday agenda-race?

Here is what I found for the first Saturday of the hurricane season:

1. 13.1 cincinnati  half
2. 13.1 Raleigh spring half
3. run with the cops 5k
4. running for the I.V.Y. 5k
5. S. Fl hero's 6k
6. javistrong 5k

You can automatically rule out the first 2 (out of FL). The latter was closest in proximity but they ignored all methods of communications regarding the event, so screw them like bad top. The only other one I haven't done was the inaugural #4 so that's my choice.

clint eastwood time:

The good: top 10, podium, finisher medal, cloudy (reduce heat), 24<
The bad: 1 woman flew past me, 2 age (I like to win), medal (no trophy nor plaque)
The ugly: humidity, barely under 24 (1 sec)

Sunday agenda-race?

Here is what I found for the first Sunday of the hurricane season:

1. suja rnr marathon
2. fitness tri
3. run for the ribbons 5k
4. twilight 5k

You can automatically rule out the former (out of FL). The next was not only the furthest, but for me, requires a swimmer; scratch that. The latter was closest in proximity and a night race, enabling a double header opportunity. However, I am no spring chicken so I only did the remaining.

I researched this race and knew my chances to podium was not likely but when given the option of a race verses nothing, you can pretty guess what's going to happen. Glass time, half-

Full: capped off a 2 race weekend, low 24, finisher medal, cloudy (reduce heat)
Empty: low 24 (should be 23 or better), 4 ag (no award), very humid

Summary:

* I went from hero to zero
* I found out George had a stroke and was in hospital. Good news is he is ok (recovering) plus I met up with him and linda.
* hurricane (and rain) season has come

Saturday, May 27, 2017

Memorial weekend

Memorial weekend has arrived! It is also the last weekend in may. Surprisingly, not many races.

Saturday agenda-race?

Here is what I considered for the last Saturday of this month:

1. down 2 earth half/.10k/5k
2. 100 black men 5k

Unusual but all the races I found were in Miami! Unfortunately, I got sick days prior so I could not run it. Instead, I mostly jogged the distance.

Sunday agenda-race?

Here is what I considered for the last Sunday of this month:

1. run in paradise (Antigua and Barbuda)
2. boston's run to remember half marathon
3. lunge for the lungs 5k

You can automatically rule out the former (out of FL). Guess what I did? Clint, take it away:

The good: top master (1st of year), decent time, top dozen (11), finisher medal
The bad: park entry fee, bad directions, post race (seemed hidden)
The ugly: race entry fee, heat and humidity

Monday agenda-race?

Here is what I considered for the last Monday of this month:

1. boca raton memorial day 5k
2. memorial day classic 5k

The former was the furthest so I did the latter (still a distance). I knew I was out matched the minute I signed up for the event but it was 3/4 of a package and I knew I would get to see a lot of people I know, past and present.

The good: finisher medal, soldier mile allows chance to place in both 5k and final mile, start time
The bad: weather started ok but then heat and humidity as soon as sunrise
The ugly: didn't place (neither 5k nor mile), heat and humidity

Notable: I beat last years time, soldier (final) mile was the fastest (7:21) whereas the first around 8 and middle worse than 9 despite no walking

Saturday, May 20, 2017

Armed forces weekend

Armed forces weekend is here!

Saturday agenda-race?

Here is what I considered for today:

1. singer island du/tri
2. keiser blue line 5k
3. save the tiger 5k
4. hugs for hope 5k
5. Miami cancer 5k
6. tour of gables 5k
7. keys 100

The latter was closest in proximity while the former was the furthest. I avoided the former because of the bridge (dangerous bike turn around). I passed on the latter because I don't have a team nor will I run that long, especially in this heat. So I picked #2 because I never did it before. clint synopsis time:

The good: 1 age, top ten, early start (7),finisher medal, trophy
The bad: I started 2nd oa to a girl, got past by another lady, then dropped from top male to 4th by the finish
The ugly: humidity and heat!

Sunday agenda-race?

Here is what I found for this day:

1. rylee's dog run
2. mar-jcc skate, scoot and run 5k

The former (broward) was the furthest, so the latter (dade) was the closest.Guess what I did? This event was very interesting. At 7:30, the skate and scoot begins; at 8, 5k (timed run and walk) while the untimed mile walk turns around earlier. Naturally, I was the only to be registered in both and complete them! eastwood time:

The good: 1 age (5k run), 3 age (skate), top ten in both, finisher medal
The bad: skate category (50-99), although age groups, no award ceremony nor awards (as advertised), start times
The ugly: humidity and heat!

PS

I was the only one wearing inlines. The skate was with boards (I don't have one) and the scoot were those terrible scooters.

Mother's day weekend

Mother's day weekend is upon us! Normally great, but this year, it is somber for me; it will be the first year without her, as she passed away last year. For everyone else, enjoy.

Saturday agenda-race?

Here's what I found for today:

1. santa Barbara wine country half
2. women for women 5k
3. live like jake 5k
4. Haiti 5k for hope
5. covenant house 5k
6. orange and blue track and field
7. ryan mandel 5k
8. goals not guns 5k
9. lou Gehrig's 5k/10k

You can automatically rule out the former (out of FL). The next, I didn't qualify to run (women only). The last 2 were in Miami, with latter was the closest proximity; I passed on that for the other, since I never did it before and you cant beat the price (free). Only caviat was that it was a fun run. Glass time: half-

Full: free, bib number, tech shirt, finisher medal, post race food, mile markers
Empty: course, no clocks, no awards, parking (however, plenty of pay spaces), late start delayed, heat (ties a record from 1985)

Sunday agenda-race?

Here's what I found for this day:

1. tinkerbell half
2. 13.1 Greensboro
3. mothers day 5k
4. Miami cancer 5k
5. go run 5k

You can automatically rule out the first 2 (out of FL). Not as many events to do (half). The latter 2 were closest in proximity but I opted for the other. clint synopsis:

The good: podium, finisher medal
The bad: 2 age, medal
The ugly: rained prior, humidity

Of note: from zero to hero on Mother's day.

Saturday, May 06, 2017

Cinco de mayo weekend

Cinco de mayo weekend is here! That day was actually yesterday. That night was TGi5k. I did it before in the past but it starts a half hour after I officially get off work, which means it requires me to take time off; forced to pass on it.

Saturday agenda-race?

Here's what I located for this day:

1. turtle trot 5k
2. eric patrie 5k

The former was the furthest away. Guess what I did? Clint time:

The good: cool weather, finisher wood
The bad: windy, travel
The ugly: didn't place

Sunday agenda-race?

1. flying pig marathon
2. wings of life world run

You can automatically rule out the former (out of FL). Guess what I did?

The good: finisher medal
The bad: time
The ugly: no awards

I was tricked (convinced) to do this event and was the only thing happening. It started at the same time (of course, within the time zones), along with various other countries. The finish line (catcher car) gets you. The faster you run, the longer it will take to be caught. At an easy pace, I managed to get nearly 8 miles (9 with the walk back).

Saturday, April 29, 2017

Final weekend (April)

Final weekend (April) is upon us! Prior, on Thursday, the corporate run took place. It is largely a day out of the year for walkers and joggers to get together to represent their company; it is too packed to seriously run. On top of that, from where I work, difficult to get to and park; I pass.

Saturday agenda-race?

Here is what I considered for the last Saturday of this month:

1. Kentucky derby marathon
2. meek and mighty
3. garden life sun run 5k
4. father o'reilly 5k

You can automatically rule out the former (out of FL). The next, I have done before (mini tri) but not ready at this time. Of the remaining, the latter was closest in proximity. However, not in Miami. It's clint synopsis time:

The good: podium, 1st age, top dozen men, start time
The bad: wind, some humidity, medal (oa and master got trophies)
The ugly: no finisher medal

Sunday agenda-race?

Here is what I considered for the last Sunday of this month:

1. Big sur marathon
2. pro football marathon
3. st Anthony's triathlon
4. motion for the ocean 5k
5. eat better, live better 5k
6. Cleveland clinic 5k
7. MADD dash 5k
8. paws for a cause 5k
9. sfk 5k
10. tri Miami du/tri

You can automatically rule out the former 2 (out of FL). Of the remaining (over twice the amount of events as the previous day), #3 was the furthest while the latter, the closest (both also requires a swimmer). I picked #6, part 1 of 4 in a series.

The good: finisher medal, start time
The bad: wind, some humidity, medal (oa, Weston residents and master got plaques), +15 on time
The ugly: didn't place therefore not even the age medal

Saturday, April 22, 2017

Earth day weekend

Earth day weekend is here!

Saturday agenda-race?

Today is earth day. Let's see what I found:

1. Urban youth impact 5k
2. S. Fl 5k
3. Hollywood runs for Haiti 5k
4. river cities 5k
5.The glory run 5k
6. Legacy 5k
7. FICPA 1040k (5k/10k)
8. Fairchild 5k

The top 2 were in palm beach, the next in broward. Can you believe that the majority of the races were in my county of Dade? Of those, I chose the latter (closest in proximity). Now for the clint synopsis:

The good: podium (won age), top 10, overcast but no rain
The bad: no finisher medal, semi generic medal (did have place and name of race on sticker)
The ugly: course (2 loop, narrow), fee

Sunday agenda-race?

Here is what I have found for this day:

1. gateway to space 5k/10k
2. JCC bagel dash 5k
3. outrun cerebral palsy 5k
4. holocaust memorial 5k
5. run for the rays 5k

The former was the furthest, while #4 was the closest, but I didn't like the venue. I didn't find one in broward. The remaining were in palm beach; I picked the latter, although still far, was the closest of those in proximity. eastwood time:

The good: podium, finisher medal, overcast
The bad: far, 3 age (I like to win), more and faster runners
The ugly: rain, narrow paths, time worse than previous day

Note worthy: The guy behind me was only 6 seconds back. If I had walked even once (as I almost did), I would have been knocked off the podium).

Easter/birthday weekend

Easter/birthday weekend is here! 1 of the few moments that my birthday falls on a holy weekend.

Yesterday-corporate run (WPB).

I passed on that since, to me, it is not a race but an event for whomever wants to be involved; plus, quite far.

Today-good Friday and my birthday!

In a strange category (51-55), I am a freshman, otherwise, I move to sophomore in the normal age group.

Saturday agenda-race?

Tax day (deferred). Although the official day, it fell on a weekend so they have to move it to a weekday. Because of Easter, all races are crammed on this day. Despite that, not many:

1. Rooney's 5k
2. brave children 5k
3. run like a bunny 5k
4. super hero 5k
5. egg hunt du/tri
6. alternative breaks fun 5k

The former 2 were the furthest, while the latter was closest in proximity. Skipping the first 2 and the latter fun run in dade, the rest were broward county. Of those, I picked the only 1 I never did-#4. I found out the hard way that it was also a fun run. Glass time: half -

Full: finisher medal, cape
Empty: no awards, late start, rain, no tshirt (unless you pay), course (short and poorly planned), fee

Sunday agenda-Easter!

No events, other than church services. Praise the Lord for giving the ultimate gift-his only begotten son, who gave the ultimate sacrifice (his life) for our sins then arose to continue his mission to save us. As for me, training.

Monday agenda-holidays?

Most don't get off but some observe:

1. emancipation day-observed by the I.R.S.
2. Easter Monday-Canada
3. patriots day- colony states, Boston marathon

Tuesday agenda-incredible swing

What's the incredible swing? Clint Eastwood style news that is-

Good= for Boston marathon finishers
Bad=last day of passover
Ugly=I.R.S! The dreaded taxes (deadline).

Saturday, April 08, 2017

Pre Easter weekend

Pre Easter weekend; dubbed as such because palm Sunday (tomorrow), passover, and good Friday all precede the holy Easter weekend.

Saturday agenda-race?

1. the fast and the furriest 5k
2. thin mint sprint 5k (Stuart)
3. st Thomas U 5k

Not many races; I found 3. The former is the furthest, while the latter the closest. I picked the latter for obvious reason but there was an interesting catch- only top 3 overall male and female. Knowing I had no chance to place, my goal was merely to finish and get a finisher medal; mission accomplished. Another drawback was the course-half mostly cross country (grass and such).

Sunday agenda-race?

1. gumbo limbo 10k
2. thin mint sprint 5k (w palm beach)

Even less races; I found 2. I went out of my element and chose the former. Clint time:

The good: finisher medal, 1st 10k of month, maybe year
The bad: weather barely cool with some wind, some humidity
The ugly: didn't place

Saturday, April 01, 2017

April fool's weekend.

Today is the day you cant believe everything you hear. Why? April fool's day! Happy April fool's weekend.

Saturday agenda-race?

This is what I considered for the first day of the month:

1. roar thru ybor 5k
2. rayz awareness 5k
3. stop drop and run 5k
4. shake rattle and run 5k
5. mote run for the turtles 5k
6. 7 mile bridge
7. superintendent 5k
8. riverwalk
9. walk for wishes 5k

With enough events on the east side, I pass on the first 2. I chose the latter (closest in proximity). I was happy to actually see Emily throughout the entire race (for about a mile aside/near). A little April fools with results as they had me winning 45-49. Clint, take it away:

the good: top ten, won age, gr8 time, finisher medals
the bad: late start, cotton tshirt, didn't break 23 by a few secs
the ugly: summer like heat/humidity

Sunday agenda-race?

1. rnr Raleigh marathon
2. lake avalon reverse du/tri + 5k
3. 5k for a better day
4. thin mint sprint (Hollywood)
5. pill box flamingo strut
6. touch of love 5k
7. SoBe tri

You can automatically rule out the former (out of FL). I thought about the next, since I have done it before, but I cut my losses on the travel (FL west coast). The latter was the closest in proximity but without a swimmer, eliminate that one. I decided on a tried and true event, #3.

This day was much worse than the previous. Eastwood time:

The good: podium
The bad: 2 age, late start, cotton tshirt, no finisher medals
The ugly: august summer heat and humidity, failed to break 25, race delayed 10+ min

Praise the Lord for another dual podium weekend and for the survival mode on Sunday.

Saturday, March 25, 2017

March madness

March madness is here! I'm not just talking about NCAA basketball. Heat trying to get into the playoffs, panthers were close but now they're not plus this is the last weekend of the month!

Saturday agenda-race?

Here is what I found for the last Saturday of the month:

1. run 4 music 10k
2. race 4 woman's wellness half/5k
3. festival 5k
4. runwild 5k

I passed on the former and the next (furthest events), and while the latter was the closest in proximity, I picked the remainder; 2/3 of the events on the east coast were in the south part of Miami area. Clint time:

The good: podium (top age), top 10
The bad: no finisher medals
The ugly: late start (8), heat, time (rumored long), walked once

Sunday agenda-race?

Here is what I found for the last Sunday of the month:

1. tri cocoa village (+du)
2. coconut 5k

I passed on the former (furthest), and while the latter was the closest in proximity, both exceed 1 1/2 hours from my house. Eastwood time:

The good: podium, finisher medal
The bad: 3rd in 46-50 age (see below)
The ugly: late start (7:45), heat, wind, time (rumored short), would've been 1st if 50-54

I got a treat this weekend in seeing Jon Williams and family (timed both events); they were a great help as well.

Praise the Lord for allowing me to close out the month with back to back podium; long overdue!

Sunday, March 19, 2017

Spring is here!

Spring is here! Well, it's actually officially on Monday.

Saturday agenda-race?

Here's what I considered for the last Saturday before spring begins:

1. clewiston sugar festival 5k
2. singer island half/5k
3. four paws 5k
4. palm 100 ultra
5. running with Danny 5k
6. fight for air climb

With a couple of local events, I pass on the former. The latter is not a running, so I skip on that; plus, it was in the opposite direction in which I needed to go for the next event. I decided on #3, the furthest on the east side. Clint time:

The good: finisher dog tag, 2nd best time of the month, cool
The bad: travel to race, plain looking cotton T
The ugly: bad age groups (10 year(cost me 2nd pl in normal cat)) plus only top overall and no master.

Sunday agenda-race?

Here's what I considered for the last Sunday before spring begins:

1. NYC half marathon
2. Georgia marathon
3. Excalibur 10 milers/2 mile dragon slayer
4. Sarasota half
5. fragile X run
6. hearts @ work 5k
7. Ives 5k

You can automatically rule out the first 2 (out of FL). I picked the furthest one on the east coast from the list. I entered only with the intention of completing the race and continue being in the series (no chance of an award). Glass time; half-

Full: finished, halfway through the series
Empty: almost 4 minutes slower than last year

Sunday, March 12, 2017

Spring forward!

Spring forward! Daylight savings time is here! Unfortunately, we lose an hour.

Saturday agenda-race?

Here's what I found before the time change:

1. rock n roll USA
2. babcock ranch 5k/10k
3. shamrock 10 miler/5k
4. ft lauderdale shamrock run

You can automatically rule out the former (out of FL). With enough races on the east coast, skip the next as well. Although the latter was the closest (not close still), I picked the remaining. Clint time:

The good: finisher medal, cool
The bad: windy
The ugly: didn't place, travel time to race

Sunday agenda-race?

Here's what I found after the time change:

1. strive for the hive 5k
2. st Patrick's 10k
3. fragile x run
4. las olas triathlon

Without a swimmer, you can automatically rule out the latter. I did the same, picking the furthest of the remaining events. Eastwood time:

The good: finisher medal, time better, position better, podium, trophy
The bad: not as cool, lost hour of sleep, late start
The ugly: age groups (10 yr)

First weekend of March

First weekend of March is here!

Saturday agenda-race?

Here is what I considered for the first Saturday of the month:

1. death valley marathon/half
2. hunger 5k
3. march for cancer 5k
4. race for the arts 5k
5. patches 5k
6. DRI hope 4 a cure 5k

You can automatically rule out the former (out of FL). I picked the latter (closest in proximity). Clint, take it away:

The good: podium, finisher medal, cool
The bad: was 1st then bumped to 2 age
The ugly: the course, wind

Sunday agenda-race?

Here is what I considered for the first Sunday of the month:

1. space race 4 a cure
2. 13.1 marathon and 5k

With all these choices, guess which 1 I picked. Naturally, the latter in Miami. Eastwood time:

The good: beat the last race (broke 24), early start, cool, finisher medal
The bad: more wind than previous day, some rain traveling to race
The ugly: 4 age-didn't place

I got a rare stay in Miami to race this weekend. However, I went from hero to zero.

Final weekend of black history month

Final weekend of black history month.

Saturday agenda-race?

Here's what I considered for the last Saturday of the month:

1. gasparilla
2. sistrunk 5k
3.healthy heart 5k/10k
4. run for the city 5k
5. weston christian 5k
6. Miami walk like MADD
7. heart health walk
8. women in distress 5k

There is large selection for this day. You can automatically rule out the former since there are enough local events. I decided on one with a safety net (finisher medal)- #2. Clint time:

The good: podium (top age), finisher medal, start time
The bad: humidity increased rapidly
The ugly: travel to race

Afterwards, I paid a visit to the latter. I witnessed 3 from runners depot collect overall awards: 1st female (and PR), Emily, 2nd male-curt, 3rd male-carlos. Also, linda completed the 5k.

Sunday agenda-race?

Here's what I considered for the last Sunday of the month:

1. central park marathon
2. gasparilla
3. Florida brain cancer 5k
4. tour de broward
5. loco rio 8k
6. surfside 5k

You can automatically rule out the former (out of FL). I once again pass on the 2nd. I chose the latter (closest in proximity).

Glass time: half-

Full: beat last year's time
Empty: no finisher medal, 2 loop course in sand (i knew), lost 3 pl by 1 second in failed sprint

I went from hero to zero in an instant! I hope to turn this around immediately!

President's day weekend

President's day weekend is here!

saturday agenda-race?

Here's what I found for this day:

1. riverbend 5k
2. toga run 5k
3. ft lauderdale 5k

double header

sunday agenda-race?

1. 13.1 wilmington
2. wellington color fest 5k
3. A1A marathon/half/6k

monday agenda-President's day

Holiday for many but not for me. The state doesnt recognize President's day.

Pre valentine's day weekend

Pre valentine's day weekend is here! That day is on this coming Tuesday, and sadly, I will be alone.

saturday agenda-race?

Here is what I considered for this day:

1. 26.2 with Donna
2. race for faith 5k
3. barrier free 5k
4. cca 5k
5. family values 5k
6. cooper city 5k
7. out run hunger

With enough races in the tri-county area, you can automatically rule out the former. I decided on #4 and 5 to complete a double header.

Event 1-cca 5k

I started off great for the first mile (7:10) but rapidly diminished for the next two miles. After I completed this race, I had to leave quickly to get to the next, which means I left without knowing if I even placed.

Event 2-family values 5k

This was a free fun run. The previous event had a decent after party but I couldn't partake in that to get to this one. Check this out Clint style:

The good: free, long sleeve tech shirt, unique bib #, finisher medal, timing, decent after party
The bad: late start (good for me to do as 2nd event), 3 loop course with a sharp turn around
The ugly: only 1 oa male and female

This event was better than many I paid for; a must repeat. Naturally, I mostly walked this one since there was no chance of getting an award.

Sunday agenda-race?

Here is what I found for this day:

1. I care, I cure, I run 5k
2. emb(race) 5k
3. run through central park 5k

This was a no-brainer. I sacrificed the first 2, in which maybe I could place for the latter because it is put on by the company that sponsors me-runners depot. I already knew I wouldn't place since it is a RRCA 5k championship race, so I came out merely to represent.

Check this out Eastwood style:

The good: long sleeve tech shirt, timing, decent after party, early start, trophies if you place, time
The bad: no finisher medals, time
The ugly: didn't place

In conclusion:

I completed 3 events this weekend, much like the good old days!

Super bowl weekend

Super bowl weekend is here! I can always remember which one it is (this is LI (51) because it matches my age on my birthday! It's the Atlanta falcons 0-1) vs the new England patriots (4-2); that's the current superbowl performances.

Saturday agenda-race?

Here's what I considered for the day prior:

1. death valley marathon/half
2. pine jog 5k
3. run to the rescue 5k
4. world cancer day 5k
5. walk for wishes 5k
6. sunsmart 5k
7. I'm possible 1,2,3
8. alumni 5k

You can automatically rule out the former (out of FL); also, the name is intimidating. I picked the latter (closest in proximity); also, it is been there, done that. Based on the aforementioned, plus the online description, it would be normal age groups with finisher medals. I found out the hard way, they lied. No finisher medals and ten year groups, therefore I left as I came- with no hardware. Note: if normal, it would have been 3rd in my group.

Sunday agenda-race?

1. Florida marathon
2. butterfly run
3. tby 5k
4. super bowl 5k/10k
5. eagle 5k

With enough local races, I passed on the former. I wanted to do the latter (closest in proximity) but decided on #4. Clint synopsis time:

The good: podium, 1st age (normal), decent start time and weather
The bad: course not totally flat, turn around, medals (no trophies)
The ugly: didn't break 23, no finisher medals

This super Sunday, I went from zero (Saturday) to hero (Sunday).

Final weekend of the month

Final weekend of the month has arrived!

Saturday agenda-race?

Not much happening:

1. run for the paws 5k
2. tropical 5k

I passed on the former (west side) and went to the latter (Miami). I did it as light training.

Sunday agenda-race?

Although a big day for me (and many others), not much happening either:

1. jcc 5k
2. 15th annual Miami marathon and half

I passed on the former (hindsight=i would've placed) and went to the latter (Miami). The last Clint Eastwood synopsis of the month:

The good: finished, cool/cold
The bad: wind, time worse than Naples, course re-design
The ugly: rain, wind, bridges, walk x3 (by design), did all but 1 of the 15 held.

Inauguration weekend

Inauguration weekend has arrived! Yesterday was a grim day in our nation's history. President select Donald trump was sworn in as president. The world's reception (except Russia) was completely different than that of 8 years prior: jeers instead of cheers, rioting and protests instead of celebration, trash (him and the wife, who has stripped many times for publications) instead of class. God help us!

Saturday agenda-race?

1. walmart 5k
2. Honda classic 5k
3. business bow tie 5k
4. delta 5k

With enough local races on my coast, I passed on the former. Although still far, I chose the latter (closest in proximity).

The good: trophies, finisher medals
The bad: ten year age groups, 1 oa, no master
The ugly: only winner of age gets award (2 and 3 out), lost 3rd by 2 seconds

Sunday agenda-race?

1. clear water marathon
2. scholarship 5k
3. rainbow run
4. miramar pines 5k/10k
5. Davie road race 5k
6. run with the rabbi

With enough local races on my coast, I passed on the former. I was planning on visiting the latter then going to #5; if I stuck to that plan, I would've placed. Instead, my lazy butt was convinced to stay and now I pay; boo hoo!

The good: plaques, finisher medals, time better than previous day
The bad: only 1 master, humidity
The ugly: 4 place again so no hardware

Horrible weekend for me as that idiot was sworn in then I lost in both races I picked when I could've placed elsewhere. I hope the next weekend fares better.

MLK jr weekend

MLK jr weekend is upon us. Other than Jesus Christ, he is a true hero. With the blessing of God, he spawned radical, positive change to a racist society, who chose to ignore what was in the constitution and the bible, as far as I am concerned, in regards to equal rights and fair treatment to all humans, just based on skin color.

Saturday agenda-race?

These are the events I on my radar today:

1. st Pete beach classic 5k/10k
2. Bahamas marathon (and 4p relay/half/5k) weekend
3. ringling bridge run
4. running through the decades 5k
5. sunshine state games (half, 5k)
6. human run
7. Zo's family health
8. 5k for kids

You can automatically rule out the second (out of US). I pass on the former #2 and #3 (enough local races). I ended up doing the latter. Clint time:

The good: 2nd grand master (first time getting title in that group)
The bad: 2nd grand master (I missed first by 7 secs)
The ugly: no finisher medals, award=medal

Sunday agenda-race?

These are the events I selected for this day:

a. Bahamas marathon (and 4p relay/half/5k) weekend
b. vista view 360 ultra
c. bay harbour islands 10k/5k
d. Naples half
e. steps of life 5k
f. key west half and 5k

You can automatically rule out the former (out of US). By the grace of God, I have a long streak of going Naples half, so the latter and all else is automatically eliminated. Last year, I was disappointed that the race got cancelled due to weather. Yes, there was lightning but it stopped about an hour before the scheduled event. Although the pre/post race refreshment could have been served, it wasnt. Medals, also could have given out but was delayed until next day; by then, most had to go home, including me.

Well, this year went off as planned. When the race started, I had immediate pain in both knees (a rarity), in addition to my heels. I wanted to quit but God said no. I figured I'd have to walk a lot, but by the grace of God, I didnt walk at all. When the dust cleared, although I failed to break 2 hours (missed by 7 minutes), I got my best time in a half since 2015! Notable: this was the first time the finishers medal doesnt have a pelican on it!

Monday agenda-Martin Luther King jr 5k old

Clint style synopsis:

The good: top 3, beat Juan again, time improved
The bad: originally skipped at award ceremony, still injured
The ugly: lost overall in .1 by 1 second

This race became what I hoped to avoid due to my injury-a challenge. In a nutshell, I battled to stay with Juan until we both got passed at mile 2. After that, I switched off to the other, using the same strategy, until mile 3. We both picked up the pace but I failed to hold on due to my right knee. Afterwards, I was told by a friend that he was a former Cuban Olympian. I can accept the loss better with that info.

PS

Guys, no more bikes up, guns down. Dont equate your fun with all the serious work Dr. King did to advance civil rights. Plus, tickets and seizures are to follow.

First full weekend

First full weekend of the year! The year began on Sunday, a transitional weekend.

Saturday agenda-race?

This is the first Saturday of the month, and it seems everybody planned only for this day.

Here's what I considered for today:

1. Disney world half marathon (first half of goofy challenge)
2. bridge buster 5k
3. pbcba 5k
4. save the panther 5k
5. Brandon's run for autism 5k
6. flipany 5k/10k

I used to do the former annually but the costs has skyrocketed; forced to pass on that. With enough local races, I skipped on the next one. After that, the next 2 were in palm beach county, of those I have done #4. Well, I decided on the latter (closest in proximity), which was 1 of 2 in broward.

My first Clint Eastwood post of the year:

The good: podium, top master*, sub 23, 4 oa
The bad: late start (7:45), some heat and humidity, no finisher medals, award=medal
The ugly: *no master title given (1st age)

Sunday agenda-race?

1. Disney world marathon (second half of goofy challenge)
2. HITS triathlon

I used to do the former annually but the costs has skyrocketed; forced to pass on that. Without a swimmer, I cant do the latter. Guess what that means? No race; have to train.

In with the new '17

In with the new '17

Happy new year! In with the new '17. Wishing you all an active, injury free athletic year. I want to put all the bad experiences of last year behind and  move on to hopefully better ones this year. I shall cherish the positive memories of last year, but unfortunately, be compelled to deal with any lingering situations this year. Traditionally, we make resolutions, and like bones, they may be broken. My top ten list will include the usual, some will be continuations, some may be possible and some may be improbable, but it doesn't hurt to dream. Come to think of it, didn't Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr do that? Obama is certainly thankful.

Top ten resolutions for this year (not necessarily in order):

1. Continued athletic success, especially with racing and competition.
2. Health.
3. Wealth.
4. Wisdom.
5. Employment.
6. Training (stepped up).
7. Change.
8. Teamwork.
9. Diet.
10. Travel.

Now it's time to expound on those resolutions.

1. Last year, I did 65 races, which is much less than the previous year. This was largely due to health issues, plus the usual relationship issues, forcing me to divert my energies elsewhere; I'd prefer to be with someone. Although I'd like to match or beat my highest total of races in a single year, my main goal is continuation; march of last year marked 2 decades + 5 years since I began competing.
2. To do the aforementioned, I must maintain good health, largely through fitness and diet. That means I still won't smoke or drink, I never use drugs and naturally, do my best to avoid injury and illness.
3. This resolution has always failed but you never know; this might be the year. Maybe I'll get rich the easy way by winning in the powerball, lotto, fantasy 5 or the hard way with some breakthrough opportunity.
4. Hopefully, as I progress, this continues to improve. I made it this far through trial and error,  experiences. Thus far, 2 out of 3 (healthy, wealthy and wise) has been my case.
5. Since the quick fix (lottery) has thus far never panned out, I'll need to keep my job to survive.
6. To get the glory (race win), one must train. I plan to up the ante with quality workouts, such as speed work and long runs, which I have been notorious for missing.
7. Obama's slogan. He is the change America needs. However, I too, must utilize this. I revolve to make some adjustments in my normal scheme of things. Like Rick Scott says, 'let's get to work'.
8. I want to continue doing relays, both as a team captain and participant. In 2008, I eliminated most series participation, in lieu of individual events because I sacrificed too many running races that I loved the previous year. I will likely adhere to this resolution this year (limit to 2 series or less). However, I want to increase the number of individual relay races.
9. Continue and hopefully improve upon my nutritional regimen, such as my no meat diet.
10. I will travel as necessary, meaning doing only races that have some significance or purpose to me. I'll try to avoid just racing to race if it is far.

Today's agenda-1st race of the year

I usually do the run, walk, crawl 5k. I always picked the middle option because it is extremely difficult to find a racewalk with awards. However, after I got ripped off (the guy given the title had jogged throughout and many witnessed that but the race director bought his bogus explanation that he learned a new walk technique) my overall win 2 years ago, with the insult to injury being that the cheater was put on a pedestal, I promised myself that if another opportunity arose to do something else, I'll take that. So, I did just that:

I had 2 choices this year:

1. 8 am-run, walk, crawl 5k
2. 9 am-resolution 5k
3. 10 am-commit 2 b fit 5k

I did the former last year, so I went back to the next one this year since the latter has the latest start time.

Conditions were humid. Thankfully, It was partly cloudy, which did keep some of the heat down; there was some wind. I had a good start for the first mile but took some loss in the 2nd but still within my range. However, the humidity proved too much after mile 2 as I decided to walk once. That cost me 1st place but by the grace of God, I did place 2nd in my age category and fortunately, I got my first award of the year, in addition to a finisher medal!

FYI

You may have noticed much of this blog seemed like a carbon copy of the previous year's post. Testament of how life can be so similar yet so different.
