Out with the old '13
This is the final day of this year, 2013. Kinda glad to see it go in many ways. Time to recap the year with Conan Obrien's top ten (not necessarily in order), Clint Eastwood style. *=Many are the same as last year. + is positive, - is negative (still bad).
The good:
10. I am still alive. +
9. Still a member of Runner's Depot! +
8. Despite injury, I completed the 20th anniversary WDW marathon walking.
7. I completed 4 halves within the 1st quarter of the year.
6. I owned my new Kia for 2 years, logging in 25k+ mostly from weekend racing!
5. Second time as a pacer in a half marathon; 2:15.
4. Jon W and I ranked in athlink's top 20 most frequent racing, only 2 in all of FL with achievement.
3. 6 events on 1 day (5k in morning then strider track meet), placed in all
2. 45-49 age group Elite series champion.+
1. The big 3 (LeBron James, Dwayne Wayne and Chris Bosh), and the Miami heat win the NBA championship again!+
The bad:
10. Car problems, this time my elantra went down.
9. Increase in number of races in which I did not place.-
8. I had to settle for 2nd overall a few times in some races that were winnable.-
7. Linda AD, I remain a victim of false promises and other emotional games -.
6. Recession (yes, they say it's getting better, but I don't notice it personally yet). -
5. Struggles to get under 21 in races, worse, never got under 19 (excluding short events)
4. Injuries and other set backs -.
3. Increase in race fees/expenditures
2. Relay team failed to place at escape, even though 2nd fastest co-ed.
1. Cant get any sleep (parties and celebrations). -
The Ugly:
10. Miami Dolphins seasons end without playoffs -.
9. Extreme difficulty forming teams as a team captain -.
8. August had record low in races (4).
7. Minor raise offset by increase in insurance, office closures.
6. Credit card debt. -
5. Lost overall title in a 5k due to no signage near end and illness (heat exhaustion) causing DNF.
4. Overall racewalk streak at key largo broken by someone jogging but calling it a new walknique.
3. Lost (didn't place) in at least 10 races (personal worst).-
2. Got serious injury (torn AC joint) doing an easy training ride due to freak accident.
1. no overall individual wins.
Happy new year! See you next year.

Holiday blues
Holiday blues. I dub it that due to lack of races, such as none on Christmas. This is the final weekend of the year!
Saturday agenda-race!
I only found 2 for the last Saturday of the year:
1. south Florida fair 5k
2. resolution 5k
Since the latter was a fun run, the former wins! With a 7:45 start during the holiday heat, this could've been a disaster but fortunately, it was cloudy and not as humid as usual. Make my day:
The good: time way better than last race, beat all women, podium!
The bad: 31 oa, 2 ag
the ugly: long morning drive, time still not where I need to be.
Sunday agenda-race!
I only found 2 for the last Sunday of the year:
1. Jacksonville marathon/half
2. boca 10k/5k
I pass on the former due to distance, so the latter wins! Normal race start but much more humid and windy! The cloud cover kept the heat down somewhat. Do I feel lucky?
The good: won age group (podium), top dozen men!
The bad: 2 women beat me
the ugly: long morning drive, time worse than yesterday, weather
My holiday blues is my struggle to break 21 and make the podium through out the year. By the grace of God, this was accomplished in my last race weekend of the year; praise the Lord!

Merry Christmas!
Merry Christmas! obviously, no race but that's doesn't waive training. Since I did the 12 miles of Christmas yesterday (noche Buena), I did a light workout today.

Winter solstice
Winter solstice is upon us!
Saturday agenda-race!
Like leaves on a tree in NY, not many races:
1. the Jingle 5k (last night)
2. Wilton manors Santa 5k
3. jingle bell jog
Since I didn't win in any lottery game, I had to work, eliminating the former. The latter event, I been there, done that, plus never placed there even with a PR, so I did the remaining since it was my (and split second timing) first time.
Let me sum up my disappointment Clint Eastwood style:
The good: was top master & made top ten
The bad: 1 star post race refreshment (no oranges)
The ugly: categories caused loss (only 1 overall & 30-50 age group) because all who beat me in 30's, plus my time didn't help.
Sunday agenda-race?
Not. I don't even have any to list, although some available north FL and up. Opted to skate 12 miles since I haven't been able to in a long time. I have to suffer until weekend after Christmas.

Mid month crisis (Dec)
Mid month crisis (Dec) is this weekend. Yesterday was Friday, the 13th but the bad luck began this morning; read on!
Saturday agenda-race!
These are the following events considered for today:
1. Spartan race TX
2. classics by the sea 5k/10k
3. river run 5k
4. n creek explorer 5k
5. ymca jingle bell run
6. trail run half/10k/5k
7. live ultimate half/quarter marathon/10k/5k
You can automatically rule out the former (out of FL). Naturally, I picked the latter because it was closest in proximity. The race ap stated that the 5k starts at 8 am. After spending more time looking for parking than it took to get to the area (over an hour), I found out it was moved a half hour sooner, therefore I didn't get to participate; bad luck from ayer! I heard complaints about confusing course and I felt the high winds.
Due to the aforementioned, my double header attempt was spoiled. To add insult to injury, due to lack of top 3 overall, I got bumped off the podium at event #4; No hardware today! :(
Sunday agenda-race!
These are the following events considered for this day:
1. Spartan race TX
2. last chance du
3. jingle bell run
4. its a wonderful run
5. tyler Goldberg sunset run
You can automatically rule out the former (out of FL). God gave me another double header attempt, ruling out the former. I planned on the du but that fell through. The Lord allowed me the other double header attempt, so #3 is out. Both are return events.
Event 1-its a wonderful run
Clint Eastwood synopsis time:
The good: on the podium and dirty dozen
The bad: time, weather (hot, humid, wind)
The ugly: time, 2nd
Event 2-Tyler Goldberg sunset run
Clint Eastwood synopsis time again:
The good: on the podium and top ten & ag
The bad: weather (hot, humid, wind), course (hills)
The ugly: worst time of weekend.

Pearl harbour
Pearl harbor remembrance day/weekend. The cowards dared attack us but we no doubt responded!
Saturday agenda-race!
I passed on all the marathons out of FL- TN, AZ, NV, TX
This is the first full weekend of the month and this is my selection:
1. Reggae marathon (JAM)
2. Savannah river bridge run
3. girls on the run
4. cca 5k
5. tap n run
6. boot camp 5k/10k
7. key west triathlon
You can automatically rule out the first 2 (out of FL/US). The latter was not possible without a swimmer. With enough normal events, scratch #6. I chose closest in proximity #4 over #3. A double header was possible if I also did #5 but it's not really a race.
Other than the challenge to beat the 2nd overall female, nothing to write home about. Make my day:
The good: made the podium
The bad: time, got hot fast, not in dirty dozen, medal
The ugly: some woman beat me, 3rd in ag, no master title
Sunday agenda-race?
This is what I had planned on this day:
1. palm beach marathon
2. Weston half/5k
I planned on the former but got locked out (online registration closed earlier than expected), so I planned on the latter as a 5k. My team request was denied so I decided to do my long run here instead. I would've gotten a master title if all went as planned; no podium this day.

Final transition weekend (2013)
Final transition weekend (2013). This is truly that weekend as it sits between thanksgiving, goes through Hanukkah and Christmas, despite the obvious.
Saturday agenda-race!
Here's what I have on my slate for the final Saturday of the month:
1. run for the arts 5k
2. great amazing race (adventure)
3. thanksgiving tri/du
4. hogs breath 5k
This was a no brainer for me; #3. Question is, solo or relay. If I did the tri, relay is the only option (still don't swim). However, the du, I have a choice. I decided to team up once again with Emily, one of our newest editions to the RD racing team.
Except for the wind, the weather was nice (60's). To make a long story short, we did as last time-won! Let's employ the Clint Eastwood synopsis once again:
The good: we improved our overall position from last time, she got PR runs
The bad: windy
The ugly: sub 21 on bike (struggle)
This also officially ends the hurricane season (not the team)!
Sunday agenda-race!
Here's what I have on my slate for the first Sunday of the month:
1. Seattle marathon
2. space coast marathon
3. jcc Hanukkah 5k
4. irun 5k/10k
Amazingly, I found 2 Miami events, so eliminate the first 2. Question now is which one to do? Since I did the latter last year, I opted for the remaining.
Definitely I want to do this Clint Eastwood style:
The good: same overall position as the team yesterday (12), made podium, under 21
The bad: medals, started late (past 7:30), post race=bagels & water, sm Gatorade, all other meals=$
The ugly: actually won my age group but given 2nd since only 1 overall & no master, only top 2 in ag

Thanksgiving!
Thanksgiving! Have a happy one! Praise the Lord for yet another day and blessed to be able to eat, drink and hopefully be merry.
Today's agenda-race!
There were a plethora of events held today in practically every county, some had 2 or 3! Naturally, I had to go through a selection process to narrow down to 1 (no double available with all in the morning). Here is what I considered for today:
1. the gobbler 5k
2. palm beach turkey trot (fun run)
3. run 4 the pies
4. jcc turkey trot
5. tamarac turkey trot
6. ft Lauderdale turkey trot
7. Baptist turkey trot 5k/10k
8. jungle island turkey trot
You can eliminate the former (out of tri county area). Using the been there, done that rule, take out 4,5,7. Limiting to award races, #2 is out. Keeping with 5k, strike #3. Employing proximity rule, the last 2 were in my county. The latter won out employing the inaugural rule.
Other than the wind, weather was great (54), although a bit colder than I like. First 2 miles of course in the streets then we enter the treacherous jungle island. It had way more numerous and sharper turns than the zoo. There were timing issues that had me on a roller coaster until the award ceremony. I saw 21:07 on clock when I finished but given 21:28. Timing issues included overall male being 4th oa, the overall female winning in 28 seconds. top master female with high 16 and a 14 yr old with a low 16, both beating the top male (I knew that was wrong since I saw only 2 women in front of me). At first, I won the master title but after several revisions, I wound up as an age group winner, by the grace of God. Also, made the top ten overall, whereas in the other events, I not only would not have placed but would be lucky to be in top ten in my category! Every one who finished was a winner in this event and went off well for an inaugural.

No v m bray!
No v m bray! That's how you pronounce this month in Spanish.
Saturday agenda-race!
I actually found a ride that began yesterday. of course, I had to work plus anyway, it's not a race. Most events seem to be scheduled for today:
1. nature bound run 5k/10k
2. run for recovery 5k
3. delray beach turkey trot 5k
4. Merrill lynch bull run
5. mud dog mud run
6. steps for healing 5k
7. electric run 5k
I passed on the former since the rest are within the tri-county area. I had an opportunity to do a double header since the latter is a night event but it is not a race and I'd rather prepare for the day.
I chose the closest in proximity, eliminating 3, 4 & 5. This was my third weekend in a row doing a race at the zoo. Unfortunately for me, it was actually a 5k, no PR. It was still humid, heat cut slightly by the clouds, some sprinkle prior to start. When the dust cleared, by the grace of God, I won the master title. Due to lack of signage near end, I went off course and lost 3 overall positions. Luckily, none were 40+ and I returned in time to beat the somebody who was by seconds. The overall spot was snagged by teammate Jon.
Sunday agenda-race!
Not so many this day but nevertheless:
1. Bahamas half
2. PA marathon
3. purple stride 5k
4. down2earth trail run half/10k/5k
You can automatically rule out the first 2 (out of FL/US). Since the latter was a trail run, I chose the remaining.
To my dismay, #1 it was a high quality, high quantity race and #2 horrific age categories (only overall then drop to mostly ten year age groups). Naturally, I got smoked but worse, I had a bad day, failing to break 21. Just like that, I went from hero to zero. Oh well, back to the drawing board.

Mid month crisis (Nov)
Mid month crisis (Nov) arrived yesterday. Pray for me that things turn for the better.
Saturday agenda-race!
Here's my selection for today:
1. Spartan race MA
2. super hero scramble
3. the swamp buggy mud blast (obstacle)
4. breathe deep
5. fantasy of lights 5k
6. the ultimate titan challenge (obstacle)
7. miracle run
You can automatically rule out the first (out of FL). With enough standard races, remove 2,3 & 6. I had a chance for a double header (#5 is a night race) but opted out considering my current struggles. Out of the remaining, I elected closest in proximity, the latter.
Since theres not much to write home about, let's go Clint Eastwood style:
The good: got a pr, top master, top 5
The bad: windy & hot and humid, windy course, generic medal
The ugly: pr doesn't count (2.4 m), no master title given (won ag is good), late start (8:30)
Sunday agenda-race!
1. rnr San Antonio
2. big sur half
3. st Augustine half/10k/5k
4. zmotion 5k
5. burn 5k
You can automatically rule out the first 2 (out of FL). The next was too far. I selected the latter but found out later why it became a high quality (fast) race; #4 was cancelled.
Also not much to write home about, but I'll with the glass concept:
Half full: course was correct (accurate time), just made the podium (3 ag), decent medal, beat all women, loop course
Half empty: course was correct (no pr), not in dirty dozen, no master titles, late start (8 am), hot & humid + windier, time

Veterans day weekend
Veterans day weekend is upon us! Please take some time to respect and honor those who gave the ultimate sacrifice to ensure our freedom.
Friday agenda-race?
Yes & no. Believe it or not, there were 2 but I didn't do any of them (complications prevented me):
a. light the night 5k
b. Waterford 5k
Saturday agenda-race!
These are the events I considered to kick off the weekend:
1. Spartan race SC, UK
2. color me rad 5k TX
3. Disney wine & dine half
4. survival beach obstacle race
5. Ferrari Maserati 007 5k
6. Miami veterans day 5k
7. Miami wild run
8. key Biscayne lighthouse run 5k/10k
9. key largo 5k/10k/half
You can automatically rule out the first 2 (out of FL/US). With enough local races, scratch #3 and 4. Can you believe there were many events in Miami? With that said, I passed on #4 and the latter. This time, proximity rules, eliminating #6 and #8.
Considering how I felt, I was lucky to make the top ten and win my age group, a strange ten year cat (41-50). Credit this to key players not showing up at this one.
Sunday agenda-race?
Not so many to choose from but enough to keep me busy:
1. rnr Savannah marathon
2. Pensacola marathon
3. ft myers beach half
4. 13.1 marathon
5. sallarulos 5k
6. Zoe Loren Make A Difference 5K
7. Gran Fondo Giro d'Italia
8. Miami man triathlon
You can automatically rule out the first 2 (out of FL/US). I didn't really race. In order to give back to the community and get in my long run, I volunteered to be a 2:15 pacer at #3, wiping out the rest *. I forgot my watch but Bryan H. lent me his. I finished within 2 minutes of set time on the clock. No group I saw but many thanked me for helping them finish; good feeling.
Monday agenda-race?
Not. Theres probably a race somewhere but I pass to take care of personal business. Of course, I will train instead. Happy veterans day!

Friday agenda-race?
Yes & no. Believe it or not, there were 2 but I didn't do any of them (complications prevented me):
a. light the night 5k
b. Waterford 5k
Saturday agenda-race!
These are the events I considered to kick off the weekend:
1. Spartan race SC, UK
2. color me rad 5k TX
3. Disney wine & dine half
4. survival beach obstacle race
5. Ferrari Maserati 007 5k
6. Miami veterans day 5k
7. Miami wild run
8. key Biscayne lighthouse run 5k/10k
9. key largo 5k/10k/half
You can automatically rule out the first 2 (out of FL/US). With enough local races, scratch #3 and 4. Can you believe there were many events in Miami? With that said, I passed on #4 and the latter. This time, proximity rules, eliminating #6 and #8.
Considering how I felt, I was lucky to make the top ten and win my age group, a strange ten year cat (41-50). Credit this to key players not showing up at this one.
Sunday agenda-race?
Not so many to choose from but enough to keep me busy:
1. rnr Savannah marathon
2. Pensacola marathon
3. ft myers beach half
4. 13.1 marathon
5. sallarulos 5k
6. Zoe Loren Make A Difference 5K
7. Gran Fondo Giro d'Italia
8. Miami man triathlon
You can automatically rule out the first 2 (out of FL/US). I didn't really race. In order to give back to the community and get in my long run, I volunteered to be a 2:15 pacer at #3, wiping out the rest *. I forgot my watch but Bryan H. lent me his. I finished within 2 minutes of set time on the clock. No group I saw but many thanked me for helping them finish; good feeling.
Monday agenda-race?
Not. Theres probably a race somewhere but I pass to take care of personal business. Of course, I will train instead. Happy veterans day!

Fall back!
Fall back! its day light savings time again! This time we gain an hour.
Saturday agenda-race!
The majority of races were held today:
1. Spartan race WI
2. fall for fakahatchee
3. wellington community run
4. cell-ebration 5k
5. run for hunger 5k
6. be a hero, run for a kid
7. mud run/scavenger hunt
8. stepping out to cure scleroderma 5k
9. vampire 5k
you can automatically rule out the former (out of FL). With plenty of local events, scratch 2 & 3. With enough standard races, eliminate the last 3.
I had a chance for a double header #6 being first, but experienced issues in warm up, so I decided to focus on just one race. Last year, I was able to both the remaining because they fell on different days; not so this year. I picked the one I did the best in based on last time, #4.
I had a chance to redeem myself from last year's heart breaking loss and lead the race for 3 miles. To my dismay, I was disqualified for missing the finish line due to no signage to indicate where to turn in nor a mile 3 marker. To add insult to injury, I suffered another heat stroke (late start race was delayed till about 8:45 and it was very hot & humid with no shade) around 4 miles (I was out of it). This now turned out to be a fast training run.
Sunday agenda-race!
These are the races on my radar:
1. NYC marathon
2. sun capital half
3. divas Miami 5k
4. Miami shores 5k
5. coconut 5k
6. bayfront tri
you can automatically rule out the former (out of FL), plus been there, done that. Usually, I'm involved with the next but since I was able to get a swimmer, I competed in the latter.
This race was plagued with poor signage, making my ride a lot longer. That's the last thing I wanted with all the wind that existed. Luckily, it was much cooler this day. The swimmer was redirected in the swim and the runner had course problems as well. To add insult to injury, the screwed up my bike time, making me look extremely slow, worse than an easy training ride. Fortunately, we were the top sprint relay but the time error dropped us from 3rd overall to 14th. Although I needed help, I made the podium!

Halloween!
Halloween! well, it might as well be with the scares I faced all month. This is the last weekend before that holiday. A good number of races are themed regarding this. My last race was a rare one this past Monday, which was a costume themed run.
Saturday agenda-race!
Most events were scheduled for today:
1. 13.1 Dallas
2. Spartan race TX
3. wine country half
4. Halloween costume run
5. spooktacular 5k
6. mud dogs mud run
7. Halloween half
8. mud mingle 5k
You can automatically rule out the first 3 (out of FL). Knock out #4 & maybe #6, since the rest are local. I skipped the latter because theres enough standard events. Last time I did a half the day before a short race, I suffered miserably, so I did the remaining.
Despite good weather, I struggled. By the grace of God, I slipped into the master cat, taking the last slot. My claim to fame in this one is beating all the women!
Sunday agenda-race!
Not much happening this day, making my selection simple:
1. rnr st Louis marathon
2. marine corps marathon
3. fau homecoming 5k
4. 70.3 ironman
5. red white & brew 10k
You can automatically rule out the first 2 (out of FL). I had a chance for a double header but with so many adverse events that occurred leading to this weekend, I was unable to attend the night, therefore focusing only on the latter. #4 requires a swimmer; didn't get one.
This was an inaugural runners depot event. Allow me to close out the month Clint Eastwood style:
The good: weather, flat course
The bad: time, medals to age groups
The ugly: no award
Trick or treat? My treat is still racing. However the trick is too many races without hardware, including my final of the month prior to Halloween.

Octoberfest!
Octoberfest! The number of events are beginning to increase, a feast of races so to speak.
Saturday agenda-race!
Here's the list of events I considered for today:
1. Spartan race MS
2. rnr Denver marathon
3. great Floridian tri
4. the haunting of fort chokonikla Halloween run
5. ghost run
6. schott 5k run, walk & roll
7. race for the cure 5k
You can automatically rule out the first 2 (out of FL). With enough local events, eliminate the next 2. Even though the latter is closest in proximity, it's not a race you can place in (fun run) and also starts the latest (8:30). I thought about but passed on #5 and picked a tried & true.
to my dismay, this became a high quantity, high quality race and it would take the mercy of the running gods for me to make the podium. Praise the true Lord for making that happen; I got the last slot in my group. I'm not to fond of the award (cap) but beats the alternative. I was pushed by the 2nd and 3rd overall women and was fortunate in in the last mile.
Sunday agenda-race!
Here's the list of events I considered for this day:
1. Detroit free press marathon
2. wellington 10 miler
3. rocktoberfest 10 miler
4. buddy walk run 5k
5. jafco 5k
6. sarcoma 5k
7. homestead speedway
You can automatically rule out the first (out of FL). Even though the latter is closest in proximity, it's not a race (a ride with various distances); I did enjoy it when last I did it.
I'll break down this disappointment Clint Eastwood style:
The good: hardware (finishers medal)
The bad: sick all week leading to race, weather (hot & humid), last minute bathroom break
The ugly: time, 1st time I didn't place at an elite event (missed by 1), + missed double header (and 2 awards)

Columbus day weekend
Columbus day weekend is upon us! I discovered I am still struggling, despite some improvement in the weather.
Saturday agenda-race!
Here's what I have on my radar:
1. Spartan race NE
2. rnr NY 10k
3. adva race for hope
4. pursuit of honor 5k
5. youth co-op 5k
6. southern most marathon
You can automatically rule out the first 2 (out of FL). The latter was the furthest in FL, so I passed on that one. I like #3 but chose the remaining because I don't remember doing them and both are the closest in proximity. However, I cant do them both so I selected #4.
Since I have nothing to write home about, let's close this event Clint Eastwood style:
The good: made the podium
The bad: medals, ten year age groups (lost a position), still hot (less humid)
The ugly: time, parking
Sunday agenda-race!
Pre 'holiday' schedule:
1. ing Hartford marathon
2. Chicago marathon
3. sunset celebration run
4. shark shuffle
5. Columbus day du/tri
You can automatically rule out the first 2 (out of FL). The next was the furthest in FL, so I passed on that one. I had to choose from the remaining. Since the latter was an inaugural, it won!
Both a duathlon and triathlon were offered. I chose the former and brought in a new RD teammate, Emily, to compete as a co-ed relay. This was her first relay. She ran very well (estimated time was a PR) and I was .02 of the average I need on the bike. Our team, salt and pepper, was the top relay and broke an hour; 15 overall.
Monday agenda-race?
Not! I have to work; it is not a holiday for me. :(

First weekend of October
First weekend of October is upon us! I already saw Christmas display prior to this month!
Saturday agenda-race!
Here's what on my schedule for the first Saturday of the month:
1.WDW cross country classic
2. fight for air run/walk
3. run for home 5k
4. hand in hand for Haiti 5k
With enough local races, eliminate the former. I don't care for the #2 venue. The latter made the most sense (closest in proximity) but I chose the remaining because I don't remember ever doing it.
Ok, let's cut to the chase, Eastwood style:
The good: top ten, top master, beat all women
The bad: master title not given, medal
The ugly: time (although among the better of the year)
Sunday agenda-race!
Here's what on my schedule for the first Sunday of the month:
1. bobcat run
2. Dunn's run
This was a no brainer. The former was further than the latter.
This race features both a 5k and 5 miles; I chose the former. I was afraid I'd leave empty handed, considering it is a major league race and I came up short last time. Now for the Clint synopsis:
The good: made the podium
The bad: medal, not in dirty dozen
The ugly: time & course worse than yesterday, got beat by 3 women

Final weekend of September
Final weekend of September. Gotta put up or shut up!
Saturday agenda-race!
This is what I had in mind for the final Saturday:
1. Spartan race CD, PA
2. quad cities marathon
3. twilight zone tower of terror
4. mr ft Desoto du/tri
5. the charity run 5k
6. sickle cell 5000
You can automatically rule out the first 2 (out of FL/USA). With enough local races, eliminate the next 2. Originally, I picked the latter but with money to top winners and ten year age groups featured, I passed on that for the remaining. Besides, I don't recall ever doing it.
I found out the hard way that the race I ultimately chose also was ten year age groups, and worse, no master title (the latter had top 3). Fortunately, even though it was a decent to high quantity race, it was a low quality (not that many fast runners) one. It featured both a 5k & 10k, but after last week, forget about the latter.
Time for my favorite cowboy western actor, Clint Eastwood:
The good: 19:18! top master, 4 oa, finisher medal
The bad: course short, medal (not trophy)
The ugly: given top ag (no master title), ten year groups
I had a chance for a double header (race not listed) but had to forfeit in lieu of tri expo.
Sunday agenda-race!
This is what I had in mind for the final Sunday:
1. Spartan race CD, PA
2. color me rad RI
3. zero prostate cancer 5k
4. FRRC 5k
5. marco island tri
6. escape to Miami tri
You can automatically rule out the first 2 (out of FL/USA). The last 2 requires a swimmer; luckily, Inga stepped up to the plate. The choice was closest in proximity, wiping out the rest.
Now for the final Clint Eastwood synopsis for the month:
The good: 2nd overall and mixed sprint team, finisher medal
The bad: weather (rain and wet ground, medium wind, humidity)
The ugly: only 1 award per category given (bumped off podium), too long to get results (next day despite chip timing)
I felt like I wasted my time and money. I would've place in the races I passed on to do this one, thus forfeiting possibly 2 podium awards (race I missed Saturday plus this day). Likely will pass on this one in the future unless they return to top 3 as was in the past.

west coast madness!
Since I didn't race locally, i shall deem this west coast madness!
Saturday agenda-race!
This is my selection for day 1 of the weekend:
1. rnr marathon CO
2. spartan race VT, UK
3. color me rad 5k NV, MT, NY
4. 5k fun run
5. beach bash 5k
6. Miami children's 5k
You can automatically rule out the first 3 (out of FL/USA). The latter was original & wisest choice (closest in proximity) but it and #5 passed over using the been there, done that rule.
Although labeled a fun run because no age group awards were given, the top 39 were eligible to receive prizes based on overall position. That's the fun; you had some power to control your destiny!
My summation, Clint Eastwood style:
the good: made top ten, thus ending the losing streak
the bad: got a prize limited to the area
the ugly: time
Sunday agenda-race!
This is my selection for the last day of the weekend:
1. rnr marathon CD
2. spartan race VT, UK
3. paradise coast du/tri/10k
4. power man du
You can automatically rule out the first 2 (out of FL/USA). The latter was would be the wisest choice (closest in proximity) but it was passed over using the loyalty rule. Also, considering i have never done an international duathlon by myself, i chose the lesser of 2 evils. #3 used 5/40/10 k format, which was more than enough challenging for me, while the die hards, especially cyclists, would have preferred the other, using 10/60/10 k format.
I made a grave error the night before and proceeded with daylight savings time. Naturally, that made me 'late' to the race (late meaning less than 15 minutes till the start). Listen to my woes:
pre start: got stuck in muddy grass parking; thankfully someone helped me out. next, had to prep bike. got in air but set up not possible. thankfully I got a legal assist to place the bike in transition.
run 1 (5k): stop to rest room, since unable to go prior to start
T1: slowest of all because I had to find bike, get helmet, gloves, glasses & shoes on (no pre set up)
bike (40k): struggled through due to previous blunder plus magnet kept hitting throughout
T2: still slow, feeling effects of racing
run 2 (10k): came off bike with right foot injury (2 miles till less pain), shuffled through out, fell out at end (heat exhaustion)
My summation, Clint Eastwood style:
the good: made top 15 (as tri), placed in age category
the bad: time
the ugly: the aforementioned problems, heat & humidity
I praise the Lord for allowing me to finish my first solo international duathlon (or so I can remember), despite the short comings and medical situation.

mid month crisis (last of summer)
mid month crisis (last of summer). I cant wait till winter; maybe ill run better in the cooler weather. A whole bunch of activity leading up to and including this weekend. Wednesday marked a dozen years since terrorist attack on America. Yesterday was Friday, the 13th (for all those superstitious). I am not normally, but that seemed to continue onto today (read below), which means I need to observe yom kippur, just like the Jewish.
Saturday agenda-race!
This is what I have on my schedule today:
1. color me rad 5k IN, CA
2. remember the fallen 5k
3. Jeff Anna's memorial 5k
4. freedom run 5k
You can automatically rule out the former (out of FL). The next was not in the tri county area, so I picked the one I never did from the remaining (the latter, been there, done that).
Since I went down much like his adversaries, time for the Clint Eastwood synopsis:
The good: got hardware (albeit a finisher medal) for first time in weeks
The bad: time, hot & humid, parking
The ugly: did not place (missed on trophy), 3 losses in a row, personal worst losing streak
Sunday agenda-race!
A bit more to do this day, the way I like it:
1. rnr marathon PA
2. Spartan race UK
3. club med tri
4. coral springs 5k
5. optime 5k
6. trilogy bonus round
7. bayfront tri
8. zoo run 5k
You can automatically rule out the first 2 (out of FL). Without a swimmer, take out the tri's, however 6 was possible as a du. since no series awards were given last year nor for this year, I pass. I planned on the latter, but without sufficient notice, it was sold out plus no race day sign up allowed. Among the remaining, I took the closest in proximity. To my dismay, it turned out to be a major league race, so I copy and paste (dejavu) with modifications:
The good: got hardware (albeit a finisher medal) for 2nd time in weeks
The bad: time, hot & humid, parking
The ugly: did not place (missed on medal), 4 losses in a row, personal worst losing streak
This travesty must end next week, right before the fall equinox!

Let the (running) season begin!
Let the (running) season begin!
September began with labor day, then rosh hashana before the first full weekend starts. This will mark the end of the (race) drought and more choices to contend with.
Saturday agenda-race!
Here's my selection for today:
1. Spartan race NJ, CD
2. wine country half
3. mud dogs mud run Guam
4. septemberfest tri
5. tunnel to towers 5k
6. boot camp 5k/10k
7. ups 5k
You can automatically rule out the first 3 (out of FL/USA). No swimmer=no tri. Eliminate non standard running event, leaves 2. I chose the latter (proximity).
What a grave mistake I made! I picked a high quantity (1400+) race with a high quality field (congrats to teammate Brian sharkey for the win) with only 1 overall then 5 yr age groups. Race began extremely hot and humid then rain came along to boot. I knew I was in trouble while warming up (leg problems); that, along with other issues led to my demise. To add insult to injury, I didn't perform well, feeling much like the ranked gators vs the U; no podium.
Sunday agenda-race!
1. Spartan race UK, CD
2. patriot tri
3. firefighter's 5k
Shades of the summer with only 3. You can automatically rule out the first (out of FL/USA), & with no swimmer, this was a no brainer. Unfortunately for me, it is a major league race (rrca FL state champ) and I am not even near race shape. When the dust cleared, it was dejavu- yet another loss, except that I kind of sensed that in advance. Break it down, Clint:
The good: time was better than previous day, advanced a notch within age cat, no rain
The bad: time, late start, still hot and humid
The ugly: no hardware for entire weekend, definitely not top ten & many women beat me both days
While the reason unofficially started, I haven't. While it may be all about the U, it certainly wasn't about me; I went down like the gators. Back to the drawing board.

Labor day weekend
Labor day weekend is upon us! This is a transition weekend. One must labor for the fruits of victory.
Saturday agenda-race?
No if I stuck to local events. This is what I found for the last day of the month (not much):
1. color me rad 5k WI
2. legacy 5k
3. pilot 5k
You can automatically rule out the former (out of FL). I did the latter in the past so it was time for something new.
Weather started out good-no wind, not so hot but still humid. As the race progressed, that changed quickly. The race was won with a fast time but by the grace of God, I secured the master title despite my time and the fact that the winner was pulled out of my age group! On top of that, with only overall given, thankfully, no one else between him and I was at least 40. I did have a battle with the grand master winner but prevailed after 2 miles. All title winners got trophies, the rest medals.
Sunday agenda-race?
Yes because there are local events! This is what I found for the first day of the month:
1. Disney land half
2. rnr half VA
3. wine country half
4.Spartan race UK
5. mr labor day du/tri
6. king of the hill 5k
You can automatically rule out the first 4 (out of FL). Sadly, I am not ready for the major league and remember struggling with the challenge of the hills so it wasn't difficult to pick the remaining event. I don't remember du'ing on labor day so I was in. I decided not to compete solo so I recruited a seasoned veteran, William Worley, to run. He was making a come back from injury so this was a good way to do that. As for me, once again, I experienced equipment failure. This time, an arm rest broke off while trying to fill a tire. This could not be repaired on site so I had to struggle with this throughout the race. When the dust clear, we emerged victorious! Praise the Lord, despite that mishap, I still rode 21+ average! We were rewarded for the finish as well as our efforts with medals.
Monday agenda-race?
Not! I did enough travelling this weekend, therefore, I'm not repeating the canes cross country classic 5k. Oh, and happy labor day! Don't work 2 hard, if at all!

Historic weekend!
Historic weekend! i dub it as such because of the following:
1. hurricane andrew occurred over 2 decades ago this day
2. 'I have a dream' speech half a century ago (8/28) by dr martin luther king jr., honored today
3. my personal history, as shall be detailed throughout this blog
saturday agenda-race!
This is what I had scheduled for today:
1. Spartan race VA
2. color me rad 5k TX
3. super hero scramble IL
4. mr ft Desoto du/tri
5. cape 5k
6. rampage 5k
7. tka lions 5k
You can automatically rule out the first 3 (out of FL).
sunday agenda-race?
I only found this day, the Spartan race VA, London. Needless to say, you can automatically rule it out because its out of FL. I planned on a dozen mile skate but it rained on my parade about halfway through. Just like hurricane Andrew, the workout was a disaster anyway (slow plus weather).

3-2-1!
3-2-1! I had an opportunity to do 3 events, went to 2 events, completed 1. For details, read on!
Saturday agenda-race!
This is what I considered for this day:
1. Spartan race CD, HI
2. biggest loser half/5k PA
3. color me rad 5k OH, CD
4. fast cat 5k
5. dreher park dash
6. kick off 5k
I had an opportunity to do a double header this day and a race the next. You can automatically rule out the first 3 (out of FL). With enough local events, I passed on #4 due to the distance; that killed the double. The latter was merely a fun run and not a race. Since I had to deal with pms in the ams, I was not entered but did do a training loop easy with friends; I had to save strength for the night race.
I did the inaugural am version of the dreher park dash last month. This is the normal evening version but unlike the past, it featured extreme heat and humidity, and no cloud cover. Only 1 water stop with only water in small cups. This ultimately lead to disaster for me.
First, the famous Clint Eastwood synopsis, then the praises:
The good: podium (3 ag), 2nd ag in dreher park 10k (am 5k plus this one), thanx to the good of ems
The bad: should've won ag (didn't due to incident)
The ugly: final mile, suffered heat exhaustion, extreme heat & humidity, improper hydration, some members of ems were unprofessional and down right mean
To God be the glory. I was in auto pilot (God in control) in the final mile while unknowingly suffering from a medical break down and still placed!
Also, by completing both the am 5k and this pm 5k, I got 2nd ag in the night and day 10k. I tech shirt commemorated this.
Sunday agenda-race?
Drought day schedule:
1. Spartan race
2. rnr marathon RI
3. mr trilogy 3
You can automatically rule out the first 2 (out of FL), leaving the latter. Due to events prior day, I opted out and did late training on my inlines. Sadly, I only did half the distance.

Aw gust oh!
Aw gust oh! that's how you pronounce this month in Spanish
Saturday agenda-race!
Most events of interest was this day:
1. Falmouth mile MA
2. Spartan race MA, CA
3. central FL tri
4. Naples sprint du
5. jcc maccabi games (thru 8/15)
6. la roootaaa regataaa
You can automatically rule out the first 2 (out of FL). I passed on the last 2 (non standard events). Without a swimmer, plus the distance, drop #3; Naples, here I come!
History was made here but not in a good way. This was the first time I got a flat at a race; that's the glass half empty. Glass half full was it occurred prior to the start of the du and by the grace of God, the trek cycle tent replaced the tube quickly, allowing me to race.
Now for the Clint Eastwood synopsis:
The good: won age and top dozen
The bad: times, slippery run sections, hot & humid
The ugly: flat, no finishers medal
Sunday agenda-race?
1. Falmouth road race MA
2. Spartan race MA
3. biggest loser WI
4. 25.75 tri
You can automatically rule out any outside of FL, leaving the latter. Unbelievably, I had a swimmer ready but that tri was so stupid, no relay option was offered. naturally, if you refuse to do that, wont be a du option either. besides, the race director(s) seem to be bad since website had a 'contact us' link but no one had the decency to respond to the emails and phone calls. that will be money not wasted on them that shall be applied to some other. I opted for skating. I struggled miserably, both internal (tired plus knee) and external conditions (extreme wind, heat & humidity). I completed the dozen miles and called it a day.

Under the weather.
Under the weather. Besides heat and humidity, there's been a lot of rain. Unfortunately, it's me that feels under the weather as of last night.
Saturday agenda-race?
The following was under consideration:
1. Spartan race WA
2. super hero scramble OH
3. siesta beach du/tri
4. logger head tri
5. trail run 5k/10k/half
You can automatically rule out the first 2 (out of FL). The latter was closet in proximity and the remaining, the furthest. Of those 3, I like the du but had to decline due to my internal condition. The drive would be too long and what I needed most would be lacking-rest (and sleep). #4 would require a swimmer; that failed. While the latter is do-able, it would be additional cost with little or no chance to podium (top 3 only), especially since I am not near my best and subnormal terrain. Since I am long overdue for a long run, today was the day! I was under the weather (internally, not externally) so therefore posted my slowest training pace thus far this year, but on the bright side, the longest, non race distance; supposedly, I was running!
Saturday agenda-race?
Most certainly a racing drought this day:
1. Spartan race WA
2. rnr marathon PA
You can automatically rule out racing since all are out of FL. Whenever the ground is wet, I cant skate safely, so I have been deprived of this discipline for the longest. Fortunately, no rain in my area so I pulled out my skates and rolled a dozen miles. With no wind, I improved slightly from last time.
Monday agenda-rnr marathon in Dublin, Ireland.
a rare weekday race that I have to miss since it's out of the USA. However, whenever I win the powerball...

Runnerpalooza!
This is the weekend of Runnerpalooza! Kudos to Carey for putting on this event once again. Last year, it was held at the home of whom this event was designed to honor-Ronnie hollassie; really, his birthday. It was impressive last year but too large to be held there, so he picked a large venue-vista view. Just like last year, bib numbers were issued; different- you had to pay this year and actually be able to run, jog or walk. So many more vendors were out there this year. More to be discussed within the body of this blog.
Saturday agenda-race?
No, if waiting on an event locally. However, yes, considering those listed below:
1. indoor marathon
2. bad bass half/10k/5k
3. eagle lakes 5k
I chose the latter because:
1. all the others are out of FL
2. I am in the elite series once again
3. it's the closest event to me.
This was race 2 of the elite series. Now that prize money is given out for overall, my days of top ten are over, not to mention my slower pace doesn't assist me. Now for my famous Clint Eastwood synopsis:
The good: made the podium (2 ag)
The bad: hot and humid, 2 ag (not 1st)
The ugly: time, not in dirty dozen
Later on, after a 2 hour delay due to extreme, inclement weather, I did an easy lap at Runnerpalooza. The best part was 'running' into lots of friends, old and new. Then, partaking in the festivities at the event.
Sunday agenda-race?
This was a no brainer. If I get a swimmer, yes, otherwise no. Praise the lord, I got the fastest swimmer, along with Boris, that I ever had on a relay-James! To complete the puzzle, do I bike or run? Well, one of runners depot's fastest runners (Spencer) agreed to team up, therefore, I prepped my bike and with the lord's help, brought my A game!
The Huntington's disease triathlon supports a good cause and offers both an Olympic and sprint distance. Due to finances and other factors, the latter was arranged by yours truly. Aptly named, 'the big 3', in commemoration of our Miami heat basketball team, we performed admirably. All members on the team posted the fastest times in each discipline, regardless of category. The surprise and pressure was on me, since I'm not really a cyclist. In comparison, James would be like wade, ever so reliable and experienced but as a swimmer; wade is still my favorite. Spencer would be like king James, since he is the anchor on the team but as a runner and expected to close out strong. I was like bosh, not sure what player will show up on race day but at his best, an incredible, experienced asset to the team. We were the overall sprint team and made the top ten times in the Miami heat. Thank you Lord.

who? lee, oh!
who? lee, oh! That's my play on the Spanish word for july (Julio). Some people are named after that as well, fyi.
Thursday agenda-run, sweat and beers
I did a rare weeknight race. I have done it before but the weather was completely different. Usually, the sun it out strong along with the heat and humidity, and sometimes wind. This time, it rained throughout, which did quench much of the heat. Had to step through lots of puddles.
The good: finally broke 21 on this course and placed!
The bad: weather, time, medal as award
The ugly: time, given 3 in 10 yr cat (would've won my norm ag)
Saturday agenda-race!
Back to normal, at least for summer:
1. color me rad 5k CD x2
2. Spartan race IL
3. fast cat 5k
3. 5k sunset run
4. dreher park 5k
5. strider track meet
This was the day because I had the opportunity to do a double event header!
You can automatically rule out the first 2 (out of FL). The latter was supposed to occur last Saturday but too much lightning and rain forced its cancellation. Sadly, I rode up into it, wasting time & gas. Therefore, I chose the closest events in proximity.
Morning agenda-dreher park 5k
Evening agenda-strider track meet
Sunday agenda-race?
1. color me rad 5k NY
2. Spartan race IL, CD
3. rnr marathon IL
4. wine country half CA
5. kb trilogy 2
Not! why? For starters, all but the latter are out of FL! I knew I would not be near 100% after double event header with the latter amounting to speed work so I intended to do a relay. When the swimmer fell through, the last option would be a du solo. Im so glad I didn't because not only was it expensive (over $100) but I probably would not place in the tight, sore condition I was in. However, in order to prepare for the next one, I got a taste of what it would be like. This event is tradition and good to do so i'll prepare for next month.

Mid month crisis (July)
Mid month crisis (July) has arrived early. Can you believe tomorrow is already the middle of July? The racing drought continues along with my struggles to run in the heat and humidity.
Saturday agenda-race?
This is what I had on my radar:
1. Spartan race IL
2. color me rad 5k GA, MA
3. beat the heat 5k
4. strider track meet
You can automatically rule out the first 2 (out of FL). I almost had a weekend of just training but carpooled with the master champ to #3. I had a tough time with the heat & humidity so I had to settle for 2nd in my age group. Jon got a trophy, as did the overall winner while the rest of us got medals.
I was ready for the latter to complete a double header but driving 2/3 up to event, I saw the clouds & lightning. Once I made it to the event, the storm was full blast and much to my chagrin, it was cancelled and I wasted time & gas money. It literally rained on my parade.
Sunday agenda-race?
You can automatically rule out the only event I found (out of FL):
1. Spartan race IL, CD
I have to workout. Therefore, I chose a long ride from my house to Florida city (31 miles).

4th of July weekend
4th of July weekend begins today! Happy independence day!
Today's agenda-race!
There were noticeably less races this year. Here's what was on my list:
1. dash & blast 5k
2. star spangled 5k
3. firecracker 5k
4. independence day du/tri
5. Weston hometown 5k
Back in the day, there was a 5k & 10k in Miami; gone. I even remember one in palm beach; gone! The last remaining local 5k is the latter but with the aforementioned eliminated, this was packed with fast runners, effectively an assured loss; Besides, I had registrations issues. My next choice would be multisport but since I didn't commit in advance, the already high entry would be even worse. Therefore, I had to consider travelling. I originally planned on the former but my gps couldn't find the listed address and even mapquest gave me a different address than what I typed in. Having no knowledge of palm city, I couldn't chance it. The remaining 2 are within my realm of familiarity but I picked the city I never actually raced in (#2).
Although humid and somewhat windy, it was not as hot, especially with the cloud cover. Fast field of kids running and I was embarrassed that some lady with a stroller (elite runner) beat me but irrelevant to my only true concern-the podium! Despite being in 25th place, I won my category and got a nice little trophy and best position I would get in any race today. 2 of the above events, I would have left as I came-with nothing. Tomorrow, back to the daily grind one more time before the actual weekend.
Saturday's agenda-race?
I couldn't find anything so I decided to train. It rained (literally) on my 'parade'. I only did 1 lap on my inlines due to the inclement weather then resorted to nearly a 3 miles cross country run.
Sunday's agenda-race!
I had to travel but I found a race. American sprint offered du and tri, so I was gonna compete one way or another but I had to opportunity to team up with peter on a tri relay. Only catch was I had to do double duty; everything on land I can do. This was an interesting race as our chief competition was 3 teenagers dressed as super heroes.
The good: I caught up to and beat batman
The bad: we started in a hole after aquaman swim
The ugly: I was too spent plus the flash was faster
We finished second only to them; not bad for 2 old guys vs 3 male teens! Shannon got 2nd on her own.

Final weekend (June)
Final weekend (June); can you believe it? Still dealing with the racing drought.
Saturday agenda-race!
Here's what is on my slate for the final June Saturday:
1. Spartan race CD
2. mr du/tri siesta beach
3. super hero scramble
4. freedom 5k
5. trail run 5k/10k/half
You can automatically rule out the former (out of FL). With 2 local events, knock off the next 2. I passed on the latter (off road) and settled for a tried and true.
My last Clint Eastwood post of the month:
The good: got 2nd master, no wind
The bad: still hot & humid despite the cloud cover
The ugly: failed to break 20, didn't make top dozen plus a female got me.
Sunday agenda-race?
Here's what is on my slate for the final June Sunday:
1. Spartan race CD
2. motivation man mini
You can automatically rule out the former (out of FL). With lack of a swimmer, the latter fell through. Therefore, I had to train. Decided to pull out my recumbent and do a rare ride with it. Experienced problems, so I had to cut my workout shorter.

Summer solstice 13
Summer solstice is here! As of today, it is now officially how it has felt for weeks already-summer! Speaking of Miami heat, the team won its 3rd title and only 1 of 6 teams to repeat back to back
Saturday agenda-race!
I found some events to kick off the summer:
1. color me rad 5k CD, UT, NY
2. Spartan race CD, UT
3. rnr Seattle
4. sugden stride 5k
5. singer island du/tri
6. triumph 5k
You can automatically rule out the first 3 (out of FL). The most logical would be the latter (closest in proximity) and #5, next, but I chose to return to the elite 5k series (furthest of FL races).
Let's do my famous Clint Eastwood synopsis
The good: won age group, new award (glass bottle)
The bad: not in top ten, hot & humid
The ugly: time, overall female got past me
Fyi: I carpooled with the master champ Jon and together we represented runner's depot and Miami at the same dang time!
Sunday agenda-race?
Poor selection reflects the racing drought:
1. Spartan race CD
2. trail run 5k/10k/half
You can automatically rule out the former (out of FL). I cant afford to risk injury, so I also passed on the latter, which means no race! I opted to train instead. I planned on skating but with the ground wet, I rode over a half marathon instead.

Fathers day weekend
Fathers day weekend is upon us! The drought continues as I could find no local races but did find a fun run.
Saturday agenda-race?
Yes and no. This is what I could muster up:
1. color me rad 5k WA, CA
2. Spartan Ottawa
3. summer sizzler 5k
4. fathers day triathlon festival
5. la roootaaa regataaa
You can automatically eliminate the first 2 (out of FL). the only local one I found was the latter, but its paddle boarding; not my cup of tea. I have done #3 but carpooling; I dreaded the solo trip. Therefore, I opted to train and dusted off my inlines for a 10k roll.
Sunday agenda-race!
Happy father's day! Only a small selection considered:
1. color me rad 5k PA
2. Spartan Ottawa
3. fathers day 5k
4. fathers day triathlon festival
You can automatically eliminate the first 2 (out of FL). I saw #3, thought it was only a fun run and decided on the latter, even though much further north because I never did it before.
The fathers day triathlon festival featured an Olympic tri and du on Saturday and the sprint tri and du on Sunday. I wanted to race both days but would've had insufficient time and rest for the former so I chose only the latter.
It's best I sum this up Clint Eastwood style:
The good: podium (2 in ag)
The bad: 2 in ag (not in top ten nor top of ag), run section, triathletes converted to du, decreasing chances for those who already committed to place within sport.
The ugly: my times, cross country runs (2.8 miles), grey medal if place, nothing for finish, $, no du relays, hot and humid

Drought!
Drought! Most will wonder how I could say that when there has been record rainfall all week. that's because I'm not referring to that but rather in the racing world! Between that and high heat and humidity, the number of races are decreasing. However, the tri world peaks now.
Saturday agenda-race?
Here's what I considered today:
1. color me rad 5k CA
2. Spartan NY (tri state)
3. 13.1 Chicago
4. cool summer morning 5k
5. Miami NW track & field
Yes and No! The latter was my only choice since the rest are out of FL and #4 was far. For some reason, I let this event slip by me and was unable to register online as required in time; thought it would be held father's day weekend. However, after further review, I probably would've declined since 2 of my favorite events were moved from Sunday to Friday night (3k and 1500 m walk) and entry fee went up. On top of that, I heard through facebook that the 3k was cancelled last night due to the inclement weather. Therefore, the drought is on for me; no race! I pulled out my inclines but for some reason struggled, especially with form, despite only doing half my normal distance. Frustrated, I ran mile later on then called it a day; wish me good luck when I can finally race!
Sunday agenda-race!
Can you believe that all races were local?
1. cleft lip and palate 5k
2. Miami NW track & field
3. kb trilogy #1
This is the first time in a long time I didn't do the latter but I don't remember doing the former so I chose that.
Its been a long time since I ran in Aventura. It began and ended in the mall parking lot whereas most of the race wrapped around the golf course. I was challenged by 2 women, both from my racing team, and was fortunate to stay ahead. My time was average but I heard the race was a bit longer, meaning I really did better. In any case, I made the podium, praise the lord!
Since it was near, I decided to visit #2, spoke to a few friends & athletes, but by the grace of god, I got an unexpected double header. Despite not being dressed to run (cell, keys and wallet in pant shorts, not just running shorts), I participated in the legends 50 meter dash. Once the gun went off, the other guys took off and midway through the run, my left shoe came off. I blessed to participate and rewarded with bronze.

Hurricane season
Hurricane season officially begins today, although God may start sooner and end later (this is his universe).
Saturday agenda-race!
Now, how will I start the season and month?
1. Spartan race NY tri state, Vancouver
2. color me rad OR, TN, CO
3. VA wine country half
4. mud dogs mud run
5. motivation man tri
6. be a hero, save an angel
You can automatically rule out the first 3 (out of FL). without a swimmer this year, #5 is out. With choice of travel or stay near home, I chose the latter.
I think I'll sum this up Clint Eastwood style:
The good: real close in proximity, 2 oa (best of year), broke 20
The bad: the course (twisty, turny), hot & humid
The ugly: award (generic medal), start time
Today's race reminded me of the season because I got blown away by Jon!
Sunday agenda-race!
These are the events I considered for this day:
1. Spartan race NY tri state
2. rnr Seattle
3. the fitness triathlon
4. run for the ribbons
5. twilight 5k
You can automatically rule out the first 2 (out of FL). with a swimmer this year, #3 is in, knocking out #4. The latter was still possible but not feasible.
It was the return of my allegiance with 2 athletes from the west side (of FL). The relay was appropriately named the tri B's, with the swimmer Brittany, rival and friend j Beagle on the bike and yours truly on the run. This was my first reverse tri relay so I started us off. I ran the best I could but pulled in an average time so therefore failed to help team begin in the lead. When the dust cleared, we made the podium at 3/5 mixed relays that received awards. Awesome post race (5 star) and nice finisher medal.

Memorial weekend
Memorial weekend is upon us! While most are out having fun, many soldiers paid the ultimate price for our freedom. Let us not forget to honor them. I competed in homage to our fallen heroes.
Saturday agenda-race!
These are the races I considered to start off the weekend:
1. spartan race Montreal, CD
2. color me rad 5k FL
3. carillon classic 5k
4. Sammy's run
5. lake avalon reverse du/tri
6. tour of the gables 5k
7. Seminoles 5k renegade run
You can automatically rule out the first 2 (out of FL). With sufficient events in tri county area, the next 2 and the last (key west) were eliminated. The closest in proximity was #6 but like Ripley, believe it or not, I chose the closest far event, #5
I like to support Elite events, so it was worth the travel. This was the first reverse duathlon I remember doing. I began with a 5k, bike then the mile sprint. I started out ok but for some reason, I struggled on the bike. Fortunately, it was a 'low' turnout and I won the master title (first time in a du), despite dismal transitions & less than stellar cycling. I did manage to do like the heat and close out well on the final run (passed someone in my category). All finishers got a nice medal and winners, a glass. Nice tech shirts as well.
Sunday agenda-race!
These are the races I considered for this day:
1. spartan race Montreal, CD
2. flying tigers tiger trot
3. patriot 911 tri
4. splash and dash (kid tri)
5. mr memorial day tri
You can automatically rule out the first (out of USA). Strike #2 (far) and #4 (kids only). I planned on #3 but was unable to register for the sprint du so I settled for the inaugural #5.
This was dubbed as an inaugural by multirace because it was their first time doing one prior to memorial day but to me, it was like a home game (tradewinds). Even though the course was technical, I rode better, perhaps due to my comfort level. I also closed out well. It was more competitive, so no master but I did make the podium and top ten again. The difference between the finishers medal and award medal was color (the latter).
Monday agenda-race!
Happy memorial day!
These are the races I considered to end the 'weekend':
1. color me rad 5k CA
2. memorial day affair 5k
3. weston classic 5k
You can automatically rule out the former (out of FL). I thought about #2 but picked the latter- 25th anniversary of the events and at a new location. It is also closest in proximity but yet still an hour away.
I entered this even cognizant I would not likely place due to the high quantity and quality field. I'd rather race and lose than no race at all. It didn't help that external conditions (heat and humidity) and internal conditions (tired & tight) affected me. I failed to break 21 and suffered one of my worse losses. Sadly, no finishers medal so I left as I came-empty handed. It was the silver anniversary of this event but different venue.

Mayflowers
Mayflowers are brought by April showers. Just thought you'd like to know.
Saturday agenda-race!
Happy armed forces day! This is my selection for consideration:
1. spartan race TX
2. color me rad 5k CA, TX
3. Fargo marathon
4. ft desoto du/tri
5. women for women 5k/10k
6. Eric patrie memorial 5k
7. covenant house 5k
8. USATF track championship
9. keys 100 ultra
You can automatically rule out the first 3 (out of FL). I was informed that #5 is only for women; strike 2. I wasn't invited on a team so scratch the latter. I'm not a member of USATF nor have the speed anymore so #8 is out. I considered #4 but with enough local races, strike 3. I planned on #6 but proximity rules; #7.
The external conditions were acceptable but thankfully, my internal condition was great. Not the best course (turn arounds) but was my best time in quite a while. There was a woman that smoked me and all other women for her overall win (top ten), meanwhile, I had to fight hard to beat the other 2 ladies, one merely a second behind! I was the first overall who didn't break 20 (boo hoo) and won my age group. Top 3 and master got plaques, the others (including yours truly) had to settle for a medal.
Sunday agenda-race!
Not as many races but at least there's enough:
1. spartan race TX
2. color me rad 5k PA
3. rnr marathon OR
4. ironman 70.3 FL
5. gulfstream 5k/10k
6. run for relief 5k
You can automatically rule out the first 3 (out of FL). With enough local races, strike #4. I have been there, done that with the remaining so guess what? proximity rules! With a later start, both internal & external conditions were worse. Would you believe in dejavu? Sadly, some female (girl) beat me and all other women for her overall win (top ten), meanwhile, once again, I had to fight hard to beat the other 2 ladies, this time near the sprint zone. Worse, no master and once again, top 3 got plaques, the others (including yours truly) had to settle for a medal. I felt fortunate to win age group since I wasn't feeling as well as the previous day. This time, top ten accolade.
Mother's weekend
Mother's weekend is upon us. This celebrated day is tomorrow but really, they deserve recognition every day.
Saturday agenda-race!
Most events were squeezed on today to avoid tomorrow:
1. spartan race MT
2. wine country half (CA)
3. color me rad 5k LA, MI, OK, NE
4. mud run TX
5.run for the gecko
6. operation giveback 5/10/15k
7. save the tiger 5k
8. run for the roses 5k
9. ALS 5/10k
You can automatically rule out the first 4 (out of FL). With enough events within the tri-county area, cut 5 & 6. Since a team option was available, I passed on the furthest (7) and the closest (9).
Thankfully, the race began at 7 because it was quite hot and humid. The women got a 5 minute headstart and with the way I've been running lately, I couldn't catch my partner. This is the second time I teamed up with Emily and once again, we were second overall couple. Fortunately, my time was sufficient to take the last master slot. She won her age group so with both got double hardware!
Sunday agenda-race!
Happy mother's day! I will see many athletic moms at one of the events I choose below:
a. techzilla mothers day 5k/5 mile run
b. moms day 5k
This was easy for me; proximity rules!
It was hotter & more humid this day but let me sum this up Clint Eastwood style:
The good: got PR, broke 19, top master that didn't make top 3 (4 oa), close to home
The bad: course (twisty & short)
The ugly: race start 8:15, medal, no master title

Cinco de Mayo
Cinco de Mayo empieza manana pero el weekend of running in commemoration actually began Thursday. Since I could not get off of work, I didn't have sufficient time to arrive to the events much less participate. On top of that, it was raining. Thursday was kids in distress 5k and yesterday was tgi5k.
Saturday agenda-race!
These are the events I considered today:
1. spartan race CO
2. color me rad 5k KS, NY, MT
3. flying pig marathon
4. expedition Everest challenge WDW
5. fit 5k
6. westglades 5k
7. big cardio 5k
8. corporate warriors 5k
You can automatically rule out the first 3 (out of FL). With enough in tri-county area, strike 2 for #4 and #5. The latter was closest in proximity and meets the criteria for an inaugural event but by recommendation, I picked the other one I never did (#6) over the remaining excellent, tried and true race.
I was not aware of the categories in this one but was pleasantly surprised once the dust cleared. I felt good even though the time doesn't reflect that. I made the top ten and got third master. Overall & masters got trophies, everyone else medals. My greatest memory will be what happened to the overall woman. She had me for 3 miles but make a mistake in the .1 and like a ravenous wolf, I smelled the blood and took advantage. After all, most competitive men do their darnedest to beat all women; I'm no different!
Sunday agenda-race!
Contrary to popular belief, this day is not Mexico's independence day but rather the Mexican army's victory over France in 1862 at the Battle of Puebla during the Franco-Mexican War (1861-1867).
These are the events I considered this day and there were more:
1. spartan race CO
2. color me rad 5k VA
3. puerto rico marathon
4. fit triathlon
5. rocket man FL
6. police appreciation run
7. US military 5k
8. tri Miami +du
9. down and dirty
10. inspiration run
You can automatically rule out the first 3 (out of FL). With enough in tri-county area, strike 2 for the next 3. Even though my original selection was an inaugural, I passed on #7 due to the race day cost. Besides, for the first time I can remember, there were 3 events in Miami! In order to mitigate financial damages, I chose the latter over the remaining events; it also was closest in proximity.
I tried to avoid this one because of the late start, and footworks divisions (only 1 overall then drop to age), but for the aforementioned reasons, it was better than not racing. Luckily, humidity wasn't that bad but it was hot and windy. I like curves on women, not the course; oh, well. Similar to the previous day, I wanted to take out the top woman. This time, I did so because she faded, not by some error. Cut my position in half (from 8th to 4th), finishing in top ten but had to settle for second age group because the one in front was in my cat. Except for the sole overalll winner, everybody got medals. Cause was for special Olympics.

April showers
April showers bring mayflowers, so it is said. Luckily, not too much over the race weekends. Prior to the start of the weekend, the corporate run was on in Miami but opted to run nearly a mile deep down south with a couple of friends; we were the top social group.
Saturday agenda-race!
A good number of events this day:
1. rnr marathon TN
2. drake relays half & 8k (IA)
3. spartan race IN
4. color me rad 5k CT, MO
5. Elvis blue suede shoes 5k
6. singer island half
7. fit2run 4 miler
8. heroes in recovery 6k
9. doral 5k
10. corporate warriors challenge begins (various company events)
You can automatically eliminate the first 4 (out of FL) and with enough events within 60 miles, scratch the next 3 as well. My company doesn't have athletes so forget about the latter. #9 makes the most sense (closest left in proximity) but I couldn't turn down an odd distance.
#8 guaranteed to deliver a PR, since I've never done that distance. Good thing, because based on my pace per mile, I had a horrific day. By the grace of God, I closed out the final K, outsprinting someone for the last top ten spot and in the process, I won my age group. Sadly, only got a cap as an award and no tech shirt (depleted too quickly). However, I was pleased the top 300 finishers got a medal.
Sunday agenda-race!
Not so many today but good events to choose from:
1. rnr marathon Madrid, Spain
2. big sur marathon
3. madd dash 5k
4. i walk for friendship 3k (fun run)
5. AEF 5k
6. pill box pines 5k
You can automatically eliminate the first 2 (out of FL). Races override fun runs, so #4 is out. Although it was do-able (10:15 start), injury & proximity discouraged that. #3 was held at huizenga, which location I dislike (parking & race course), so with others available, I passed on that one. This time, I picked proximity, ruling out #5.
Yesterday, I left the race injured and it got progressively worse as the day went on. I had to stretch excessively last night and this morning just to have a chance to race. I predicted I'd be lucky to be in low 21; that's how bad I felt. The course was flat but there was some wind & heat; humidity was not so bad. I had a gimpy stride on the track at start but struggled through race. Praise the Lord, I broke 21, made top ten and the podium, 'at the same damn time (rap song)'. Sadly, I missed out on overall trophies, and no master (wouldn't have gotten it anyway, unless 3 deep) and had to settle on medal. At least, I got a traditional award.

Earth weekend
Earth weekend is what I dub it because it precedes earth day (Monday). Prior to the start of it, on Thursday, the corporate run was held in west palm beach. A little to far for my taste, especially when there's one in my town next week.
Saturday agenda-race!
These are the following I considered:
1. color me rad 5k VA, AL
2. rayz awareness 5k
3. MS breakway (from Miami to key largo)
4. run to remember 5k
5. kb half/5k
6. money run
7. caba 5k
You can automatically rule out the former (out of FL). With many running events, take out #3. The last 2 make the most sense (closest in proximity) but you know me, I had a chance for a double header. first #4 then #5, which will leave out #2.
Event #1-run to remember 5k
Race scheduled at 7 am, it sprinkled, some wind and a bit humid but not quite hot yet. Luckily, it was a low quantity race and I finished in the top ten. By placing 4th overall, barring any extremely bad categories, I was guaranteed a spot on the podium, but I didn't know what title/group position because I had to leave immediately to get to the next race (hours later, at home, I found out I won the master title but have yet to collect my award).
Event #2-run to forget 5k
Well, that's not actually the name of the race but my sentiments regarding #5. Despite having emailed my intentions without objection, I was met with immediate resistance and disgust by the jack donkey put in charge with registration. She kept giving people a hard time, turning people away but as for me, she was relentlessly adhering to a no check policy. Even though she knows me, the gorda vaca must be full of envy and jealousy against me and let that override good judgement by refusing to confer with the race director who has had me as a loyal customer every year since the inception of the multirace company. While everybody was putting him down (so many mistakes running his inaugural event), I stuck with him. I could even hear him on the radio (walkie talkie) telling her to take more people, he is delaying the 8 am start another 5 minutes. Eventually, it was impossible to enter, like when time runs out on a game, foiling my plans on a double header. By the race of God, I still had a good time and got in a cool down, easy 5k even though denied my opportunity to win an award (would've been top master or won age group) and the race director additional money. Usually, they only give out generic medals anyway. Except for registration, which seemed to desire blocking entrants (deterrent for those affected regarding future events), event was ok with great post race area.
Sunday agenda-race!
1. color me rad 5k NM
2. MS breakway (to Miami from key largo)
3. mud dogs mud run FL
4. run wild in the park 5k
5. run from the rays 5k
6. sprint for the cure 5k
7. money run
You can automatically rule out the former (out of FL). With many running events, take out #2 & #3. I eliminated the next furthest races #4 & #5 (palm beach). While the latter was the closest in proximity, I chose #6.
A similar start (weather conditions) as the previous day but a bit cooler. However, that changed after about 2 miles. I got blown away at the start, probably not even in the top 20 but when the dust cleared, I just made the dirty dozen and got second master. The top 3 overall and masters got a beautiful glass trophy, every one else a medal. They had a 5 star breakfast (eggs, pancakes, etc) and silent auction; I had a blast while supporting a good cause.

Birthday weekend!
Birthday weekend! Although I remain in the same age group, I move from sophomore to intermediate.
Saturday agenda-race!
Not much to choose from but nevertheless:
1. Rooney's 5k
2. color me rad 5k (OR, KS, FL)
3. splash n dash 5k
4. sun smart 5k
5. 7 mile bridge run
You can automatically eliminate #2 (out of FL). I decided against the former and the latter (too difficult & far for me under current state). I planned on #3 until I was spotted front and center in the Miami herald (tropical section on Tuesday). It got so much buzz, I decided to repeat this event (#4), even though I know I'd be slower. This is my last chance to place before I advance up the ladder of life. The external conditions were bad (hot, humid, wet with puddles). To make matters worse, the late start (8 am) was delayed another ten minutes. By the grace of God, I finished with same award position as last year despite a much slower time.
Sunday agenda-race!
Happy birthday to me! These are the races I considered:
1. rnr marathon Scotland
2. triathlon cocoa beach
3. fau wellness tri
4. stand down 5k
5. motion for the ocean 5k
6. key west race around the rock 15k/5k
You can automatically eliminate #1 (out of FL & USA). Without a swimmer, you can rule out the next 2 as well. I decided against the latter (too difficult & far for me under current state). The great Lord above provided me with a great birthday gift of a double header!
Event 1 agenda-stand down 5k
This is my first race under new age; a was a bit nervous & tired after my fiasco the previous nite (lost over 2 hours because I forgot my wallet plus entry issues). It was hot & humid but luckily, not so much wind. Felt fine the first mile then struggled. I left without knowledge of how I did so that I'd have sufficient time for next event. When dust cleared, I found I had the best time of the weekend and given 2nd master (I was first but a grandmaster was faster). I heard I got a medal.
Event 2 agenda-motion for the ocean 5k
It took an hour to travel between races; that coupled with fatigue (just raced with no rest other than driving in a car) put me at a great disadvantage. It was even hotter & more humid (9:15 start) and this time was very windy. I found out at the last minute that the course was on soft-medium packed sand and we headed against the wind to return with it. Let's sum it up Clint Eastwood style:
The good: won my age group, 6 oa, post race refreshments
The bad: time was 2 minutes slower, course (lost some time getting lost)
The ugly: no award (goodie bag instead)
Praise the Lord! I was able to make podium in both as well as top ten finishes; what a great way to begin with the new age.
Monday agenda-Boston marathon!
While it may be a holiday in bean town, patriot's day is not observed down here! Good luck to all my friends competing, especially my teammates!
Saturday agenda-race!

Passover weekend
Passover weekend I call this but it ended officially sundown last Tuesday. There was a corp run on Thursday but I couldn't go (broward). My weekend actually began last night, where I raced out of town and was dubbed 2nd age (only top overall & no master then to ten age groups). However, I was given a first place trophy; Pulling out Jon (the winner), 2 oa was the only other master in front. I earned the title on prize based on these conditions: if they gave top 3, and master, I would be top master (1 PL) or if they gave top 3, and no master, I would be 1 ag.
Saturday agenda-race!
This is my selection today:
1. spartan NV
2. color me rad 5k TN, FL, AZ
3. the biggest loser MS
4. citrus classic
5. pirate plunder 2 miler
6. can you outrun the beast? (adventure)
7. race to erase 5k
8. run for the turtles 5k
9. thin mint sprint
10. homeless voice 5k
11. eco safari trail run
Automatically rule out the top 3 (out of FL). With enough local races, take out #4,5,11=very far. strike 3 on the furthest local races 8, 9. With standard races available, I passed on #6, leaving 7 & 10. I chose the closest & most familiar, Markham park!
If you recall on my last post, for the first time in over 20 years, I had a problem with a shoe lace despite having the lace locks! What are the chances I have another problem at this park? Well, guess what? Around mile 2, I heard & felt the sole of my left shoe flapping (only 1/3 attached); I had to stop, rip it off and finish lop sided! Before that even happened, I was in fifth place approaching the turn around when I noticed Ralph (3rd) stop to tie his shoe, falling to fourth. He still maintained that position until he mysteriously stopped prior to my incident. For some reason, he decided to re-enter and challenge me for his previous position. I had to sprint the .1 lop sided & by the grace of God, won! If top 3 and master were given out, I would be top master. However, they didn't so I ended up winning my strange age group and receiving a certificate of appreciation and a generic medal. I endowed the latter to Spencer's daughter for her efforts of running after his son got the race winner's(Chris) overall award.
Sunday agenda-race!
1. color me rad 5k CA
2. Carlsbad 5000
3. Hollywood half marathon
4. green turtle gallop 10 k
5. rugged runner challenge
6. Florida brain cancer 5k
7. Nat Moore steps to scholarships 5k
8. nautica tri
9. ms 5k run
Automatically rule out the top 3 (out of FL). I love #8 but couldn't secure a swimmer; strike 2. I passed on some more local races for the opportunity of a double header (#6 was listed as 7 am, #5 at 8 am). I found out the hard way, that #6 would start at 7:30, automatically eliminating #5. With this disappointment on my mind, I had contend with that and wind with some humidity.
Let's sum this up Clint Eastwood style:
The good: top ten (3x this weekend), 2 ag (would be top maser or 1 ag norm ag)
The bad: generic medals, time (although best of weekend)
The ugly: only 1 overall, no master, 2 deep in ten year age groups, generic medals
Saturday agenda-race!
This is my selection today:
1. spartan NV
2. color me rad 5k TN, FL, AZ
3. the biggest loser MS
4. citrus classic
5. pirate plunder 2 miler
6. can you outrun the beast? (adventure)
7. race to erase 5k
8. run for the turtles 5k
9. thin mint sprint
10. homeless voice 5k

Easter weekend
Easter weekend was preceded by good Friday. Today is super Saturday since all races were crammed in on this day because no one dares to put on an event tomorrow!
Saturday agenda-race!
Too many to list but I will display those I considered:
1. rnr KY marathon
2. color me rad 5k (TN, TX, NC)
3. scholarship 5k
4. smokin tuna 5k (key west)
5. coral springs half/ women's wellness 5k
6. run like a bunny 5k
7. egg hunt du/tri
I can automatically rule out the first 2 (out of FL). With enough more local races, take out #3 and #4 as well. Since I cant do them all, I passed on the last two (been there, done that); that applies to all the 5k's left listed. Therefore, yes, I did the distance!
Couldn't ask for a better day, in terms of external conditions: cool, little wind, dry and the course was basically flat with only 1 turn around. However, for some odd reason, I didn't perform well and was lucky to break 2 hours. It was a must do on my list because it was an inaugural, including for the race director Kelly. She did so well, I forgot about this fact and I hope the carries on to subsequent events. Even the finishers medal was descent. I knew I would not place but it was important for me to do another endurance events. Due to injury, this year is an all time low for the first quarter of any year since I began dedicating that portion of a year for endurance events.
Sunday agenda-Easter!
Racing wise, this day was depressing (no races). However, this day was set aside to recognize the resurrection of our lord and saviour, Jesus Christ, our greatest gift.
I pulled out my inlines & rolled over 12 miles crosstraining. See ya'll next month!

March madness
March madness is upon us.This typically applies to NCAA basketball, where this year, the U is in! However, it also applies to me.
Saturday agenda-race!
This is the selection for today:
1. 13.1 NY
2. spartan NC/SC
3. color me rad 5k GA, MS, SC
4. manatee center 5k
5. dress for success 5k
6. support our troops 5k/10k
7. singer island 13.1
8. river walk run (5k/10k)
9. race 4 research half
You can automatically eliminate the first 3 (out of FL). Also, #7 as it was moved to April. I took the second closest event, #6. I didn't remember doing this one until I got there. Here's my famous Clint Eastwood synopsis:
The good: made the podium and top 5
The bad: didn't break 20, generic medal
The ugly: only first overall and no master, bumping me to 2nd age group instead of top master.
Sunday agenda-race!
a. spartan NC/SC
b. mad march on cancer virtual 5k/half (began 3/15-now)
c. rnr Dallas
d. mud dogs mud run
e. Kendra's kisses
f. snowbird century
You can automatically eliminate a. & c.=out of FL events. also, d and f because non-standard events. b. is not really a race but is interesting. I stuck with tried and true; e.
It was a bit hot and definitely humid. Also a bit windy but what did me in was my left shoe lace came lose immediately before I even cleared the first hill. Unfortunately for me, I allowed Humberto to pass me and failed to surpass as normally I would. I had to settle for 2nd in our age group. I love trophies but ran so poorly, I only got the age group medal. I am pleased with the size and quality of it though. My time was slightly better than yesterday, despite the more challenging course, leaving me with promise for a future race under better conditions.

St. Patrick weekend
St. Patrick weekend is upon us! Also heard the true new year and sabbath.
Saturday agenda-race!
This is my selection for today:
1. rnr marathon DC
2. shamrock scamper 5k
3. shamrock run (10 miler & 5k)
4. sunrise to run 5k
5. march for cancer 5k
6. Daniel's dash 5k
7. marco island half
8. romp thru pinecrest 5k
Since it's rare and I felt lazy (and sick), I chose the latter due to proximity. Got plenty of rest. Weather was cold (sub 60) but little wind. Not happy with my splits but by the grace of God, i managed a PR (sub 20) and made the podium. This was a low quantity, high quality race with no master title, so I had to settle for 2nd in my group and get a dinky medal. I'll take that over the alternative!
Sunday agenda-race!
These are the events on my radar:
a. LA marathon
b. Georgia marathon
c. Sarasota half
d. Amy's 5k for diabetes
e. 25.75 tri Miami
f. motivation man
g. mustang duathlon
The first 2 are automatically eliminated (out of FL). I chose the latter to support my favorite new event company, elite events and it is my first multisport of the year.
It was very cold but luckily a low wind. The long, solo drive, in addition to being sick for a week, took its toll in terms of fitness. Despite that, I managed to get 2nd in age cat and make the bakers dozen. I gotta work on my transitioning; it killed me!
Honorable mention
* I broke the Sunday losing streak with a podium finish
* Finally broke 20
* UM wins ACC & now in the hunt for championship
* Heat tie with 22 straight wins as 2nd most in NBA history

3. st patricks 10k
4. 13.1 half and karhu 5k
5. sprint sprint 5k

3
3 seems to be the number! this is the first weekend of march (3).
Saturday agenda-race!
Here's what I considered for today (loaded with events):
1. sombrero beach run
2. run for the health of it 5k
3. s fl run for compassion
4. brevards zoo monkey madness
6. color me rad 5k (Lexington)
7. chain of lakes cycling
8. spring fest 5k/12k
9. fragile X
Eliminate the far ones-4,6,7,8. the latter was the closest but I passed on that to consider other options. I considered #1 but it was actually further than going to palm beach plus only top 2 in age categories, therefore #3 won.
I don't remember doing this one even though it was the 3rd annual plus it has been awhile since I've been to john prince park. External conditions were tough because it was quite cold (55) and very windy (-10 factor, I think). I had to wear tights, gloves & something to cover the ears. I heard the course was long but sadly, I surcame to conditions, both internal & external and failed to break 21. To add insult to injury, I got beat by the top 4 women; Inga was pleased as she finally got me and the master title to boot. By the grace of God, I got the last slot (3) in my age group. The plaques given out were nice.
Sunday agenda-race!
Not as many today but I'm do one of these:
a. chain of lakes cycling
b. autism speaks 5k
c. march for hunger 5k
d. tour de cure ride
e. iRun 5k/10k
3/3/13! I rejected a. and d. because they are non running events occurring while conventional ones are available. Even though I like b. and c., I passed on them for an inaugural event, e.
This one deserves the Clint Eastwood synopsis:
The good: knocked off almost a minute from yesterday & got a finishers medal
The bad: the time, still some wind
The ugly: lost 3 by 3 seconds, did not place (boo hoo)

short!
short! that describes this month and black history recognition, as well my performance this weekend.
Saturday agenda-race!
These are following events planned (loaded schedule):
1. gasparilla 15k/5k
2. sunshine state races (5k/half)
3. 5k for a better day
4. the biggest loser (off road)
5. FL super spartan
6. run 4-life
7. oral cancer awareness 5k
8. race for faith 5k
9. riverbend green 5k
I cant do them all so I picked a tried and true race that gives me the best chance to place; praise the lord I made that decision. I woke up sick and had been all week, causing for poor training. Already struggling in the first mile, I went down rapidly, losing so much energy & time that I went into the marathon mentality of just hoping to finish. Unfortunately, there are no finisher's medal! By the grace of God, I was able to win my age group after pulling out all the 'good' people with the special categories. The awards looked funky but I want what is available.
Sunday agenda-race!
These are following events planned this day:
a. gasparilla half/8k/various events
b. Disney princess half
c. rnr new Orleans marathon/half
d. 2575 triathlon
e. tour de broward
f. king of the hill mud run
g. emb(race) 5k
h. tribute to the military 5k
I cant do them all but this time I didn't pick a tried and true event so that I have the best chance to place. Instead, I took a chance with a race I never did. This one deserves the Clint Eastwood touch:
The good: everyone guaranteed hardware (finishers medal), won 2 ag, time better than yesterday
The bad: internal condition, lost 1 ag by 3 seconds
The ugly: the time, no sleep night prior

Presidential weekend
Presidential weekend is upon us. Monday is observed by many (not my job) as a day to recognize George Washington and Abraham Lincoln combined. Florida is not patriotic, so I shall be working.
Saturday agenda-race!
These are the events I had on my radar:
1. colormerad5k (NC)
2. Edison festival of lights 5k
3. A1A 5k
4. lakes of the meadow 5k
I had a chance to do a double header (#2 is a night race) but had to pass on that due to internal conditions (not 100%) and expense. You can automatically rule out the former. Even though #3 is a good race, I chose the latter due to proximity & fact I haven't done it in ages.
This was a races for the kids. The top 3 slots were filled by sub 25 kids. The top master made the top ten with 18 1/2. I fortunate to win my age group using a master pack, whereas those guys won their categories as well; praise the lord! I split the top 2 female sisters with over 2 minutes slower than the master winner. Everybody got medals, except those overall positions, who received plaques.
Sunday agenda-race!
These are the events I had considered for this day:
a. rnr marathon CA
b. rnr marathon France
c. daytona beach half
d. A1A half/full marathon
e. carnival Miami 5k/6 mile
You can automatically rule out the first 2(out of Florida). c was fun but with more local events, I passed on that one. I am not pleased with the latter because they changed when it's run and where it's run, plus typically, fewer categories; d. wins!
I've everyone since its inception and each finisher's medal is different. Now for my famous Clint Eastwood synopsis:
The good: I finished with best time for a half this year, paced briefly with Emily
The bad: very cold (45) & windy (-10 chill)
The ugly: I finished with best the worst time for this half in my lifetime (still recovering).
Honorable mention
Many of my friends finished, some with good times; you may be able to guess when you see the names: Linda, Emily, gene, Rachelle, Louis M, Spencer, Julie, the ramdeens. Congrats to all who finished!
