Out with the old '12

Out with the old '12

This is the final day of this year, 2012. Kinda glad to see it go in many ways. Time to recap the year with Conan Obrien's top ten (not necessarily in order), Clint Eastwood style. *=Many are the same as last year. + is positive, - is negative (still bad).

The good:

10. I am still alive. +
9. Still a member of Runner's Depot! +
8. My dad & I completed the inaugural and outaugural chip & dale WDW marathon relay.
7. I completed 8 halves + 2 half relays within the 1st quarter of the year.
6. I owned my new Kia for a year, logging in 14k+ mostly from weekend racing!
5. First time as a pacer in 2 half marathons; 2 hour.
4. Jon W & I ranked in athlink's top 20 most frequent racing, only 2 in all of FL with achievement.
3. Team, 'masters of disaster' (M. Kelly, partner) overall team, 2 different half marathon relays!
2. 45-49 age group Elite series champion.
1. Finally, the big 3 (LeBron James, Dwayne Wayne & Chris Bosh), and the Miami heat win the NBA championship!

The bad:

10. Car problems, this time my mustang down since prior to my birthday.-
9. Increase in number of races in which I did not place.
8. I had to settle for 2nd overall a few times in some races that were winnable.-
7. Linda AD, I remain a victim of false promises & other emotional games -.
6. Recession (yes, they say it's getting better, but I don't notice it personally yet). -
5. Struggles to get under 20 in races, worse, never got under 19 (excluding short events)
4. Injuries and other set backs -.
3. 2nd year I did not do any full marathon (less the black out year).-
2. Marlin's fire sale.
1. Cant get any sleep (parties & celebrations). -

The Ugly:

10. Miami Dolphins seasons end without playoffs -.
9. Extreme difficulty forming teams as a team captain -.
8. My trilogy team won series but no awards were given.
7. No raises, office closures. -
6. Credit card debt. -
5. Lost overall title in a 5k due to illness (caught up mile 3 but with poor stamina, couldn't outsprint).
4. Overall racewalk streak at MLK broken by someone nearly half my age.
3. Lost (didn't place) in at least 10 races (personal worst).
2. Relay teams failed to place 4 times.
1. no overall individual wins.

Happy new year! See you next year.

Last race weekend (2012)

Last race weekend (2012) is upon us!

Saturday agenda-race!

I found 2:

1. resolution 5k
2. s fl fair 5k

Unfortunately, I couldn't do both, despite liking them both. Since the former is more of a fun run, I chose the latter.

A relatively late race start, thankfully, it was overcast, keeping the heat down. Didn't care for the wind but mid 60s-70s was comfortable. I had to contend with a couple of ladies clipping my feet and 1 who blatantly cut my off. When the dust cleared, I broke 20, beat those ladies and took my age group. I was guaranteed hardware as finishers medals were given. Of course, I am more interested in a podium placement.

Sunday agenda-race!

I also found 2:

a. the biggest loser run (half/5k in panama city)
b. boca 5k/10k

Since the former is the furthest, I chose the latter. I 've raced many times at Spanish river park but realized that this was the first time doing that particular race, despite that it was its 33rd annual. I was the best of all, going 5 deep in all categories plus plaques to all who place! It began too cold for me (54 degrees) and had to turn back versus the wind upon return to finish. I felt good but that didn't reflect on the clock. By the grace of God, I got 5th master; last time I got that was 2-3 years back when fantasy of lights was good. I designated this as a tack on event so I jogged the 5k course again to add mileage. Post race considered 5 star, since had pancake breakfast & lots of pastry, oranges & bananas. It's hard to believe I never did this one before.

This concludes the weekend and year in terms of racing. Praise the Lord for allowing me to complete 105 events during the course of the year. I resolve to do better next year; have a happy one!

The end?

The end? Yesterday was the end of the Mayan calendar but most translated that to the end of the world. It also officially began the winter solstice. I felt it a bit at night but especially Saturday morning.

Saturday agenda-race!

It is the end of races for me before Christmas so I was trying to race hard and do my best time in a long time. That was quickly dashed. Only found 3 events:

1. Santa hustle WI
2. jingle bell jog
3. a positive step new years 5k

I cant afford long travel to the former nor the latter wins, so the center wins. 1 more time for my man Clint:

The good: able to race this weekend, cold weather
The bad: windy, didn't break 20. too cold
The ugly: got outsprinted & didn't place (lost 3 by 3 seconds)

Sunday agenda-race?

I actually found 1, Santa hustle TX 5k, which is part of a series. Needless to say, I had to pass on it to mitigate financial damage. I ended up training with long time friend Earl. we ran about 8 miles while shooting the breeze.

Monday agenda-12 miles of Christmas

A fun run put on by and held at runners depot. I had a good time meeting all my friends and after this, completed a total of about 23 miles over the weekend.

Merry Christmas everybody! The next report follows the holy holiday. Remember, Jesus is the reason for the season, not a fat man in a funny red suit & hat!

Mid month final

Mid month final (of this year) is here!

Saturday agenda-race!

These are the events I considered for today:

1. frosty 5k
2. classics by the sea 10k/5k
3. river run 5k
4. north creek explorer 5k
5. live ultimate quarter marathon/5k

In order to satisfy my appetite for racing, I scheduled 2 double headers for this weekend. Strike 1=furthest event (west side). I picked the latter for 2 reasons-inaugural  quarter marathon and proximity (SoBe).

Event 1 deserves the Clint Eastwood synopsis:

The good: got a PR (never did before), finishers medal
The bad: time, due to internal & external (wind, humidity) conditions
The ugly: didn't place

Event 2 (#4) is a return event. I'm not fond of night events but I am of races, therefore I ran. Since I started off the day with an 'endurance event' (I'm a 5k'er), I was tired & tight, not to mention it was much hotter and humid in the afternoon. By the grace of God, despite the poor time, I made the podium (2 ag) and picked up first award of the day and weekend. Double header completed!

Sunday agenda-race!

Even more events this day:

1. Santa hustle (OH)
2. Santa hustle (IN)
3. Jacksonville marathon (half & 5k)
4. jingle bell 2 miler
5. Naples chill duathlon
6. jingle bell run 5k
7. parkland 5 mile holiday run
8. tyler s goldberg 5k
9. 5k chanukah run

You can automatically eliminate the first 2; out of FL. #3 can follow since it's the furthest in FL. The latter is the most logical choice (closest to me) but I passed on that and many others on my coast for guess what? An inaugural!

Event 1: In my career, I've only done one other duathlon in December, many many years back by some other company that left FL. This was going to be a challenge, not so much the event, but that I have to travel to Naples (get up earlier and drive much longer) to do it. I was a bit rusty but luckily, I kept training. Weather, except for wind, was awesome (cool). I ran ok, especially the last run. My cycling was average at best. I made a grave error and forgot my pump but kudos to the ladies who let me borrow theirs. When the dust cleared, I won my age group and made the top ten; praise the Lord! Great way to start the day.

Event 2 (#4) is another return event. It's for a good cause but was a challenge for me in few ways:

#1- 2nd event of day and 4th of the weekend
#2- begins an hour earlier than last time (now 3 pm), reducing recovery time
#3- internal (tight & tired after endurance event & number of prior races) & external (heat, wind, humidity) conditions

On top of the aforementioned, somebody fresh decided to give me a 'run for the money'. By the grace of God, I edged him out for the master title. Praise the Lord for allowing me to advance in position, both podium and overall position, with the last being 4th on my quest for quadruple event weekend. Another double header completed this day!

Saturday, December 08, 2012

Hanukkah!

Hanukkah! Happy chanukah (weekend)!

Wednesday agenda-holiday boca mile

I did this once & got a PR but lost by a split second. I couldn't make it this year because I had to close at my job. Congrats to my teammates who did well.

Friday agenda-jingle bell by the river

Similar scenario (work) except I not close. Since race is in bradenton, cant make that one.

Saturday agenda-race!

Most races scheduled for today:

1. spartan TX beast
2. USATF jr Olympics CC national championships (NM)
3. its a wonderful run
4. strides for education (broward)
5. strides for education (boca)
6. turn on the light 5k
7. steps for healing 5k
8. rumrunner run 5k

Ok, you can rule out the first 2, out of FL. #7 was closer to home but I was attempting a triple header, so I ruled that out along with 8. However, those 2 would allow a double header. #4 could work but limits me to the same cause & hind sight reveals was too risky that I wouldn't place, in addition to cost.

I wound up with a double header in races, triple in events. I left the first 2 without knowledge of how I did nor the awards. Day began cooler but got progressively hotter.

first agenda-turn on the light 5k

A return event, was small and by the grace of God, I made the top ten & found out by amigo and teammate Louis M that I won the master title. I missed breaking 20 by 2 seconds.

second agenda-its a wonderful run

Another return event, by contrast was large (500+). On top of that, the fatigue & heat factor slowed me by a minute & half. Praise the Lord, the same friend informed me I won my age group while I was at last scheduled event.

third agenda-strides for education (boca)

My first time here and was a very late start (10). I usually don't like that, except in this case, where I want multiple races. I almost signed up to race it until I heard only top 3 overall, no age categories. Considering both internal (just did 2) and external (now hot & humid, unknown course) conditions, I decided to walk the 5k as a cool down for those races. Hindsight reveals I could've won a medal (hearsay) but previous, I considered the fact that some young, fresh kids could win easily while I risk injury trying to run faster than the prior 5k's. I got an even bigger weekend coming up so I humbled myself.

15k of exercise completed with 3 hour span between 2 counties; praise the Lord!

Sunday agenda-race!

Here's what was on my event list:

a. spartan TX beast
b. Dallas marathon
c. santa hustle (TN and daytona beach)
d. run for tomorrow half/5k
e. wellington mile

Eliminate the first 3 due to distance. I couldve done the last 2 for another double but decided not to push my luck. I cant afford injury, especially now.

I gonna go Clint Eastwood style:

The good: won age group*, broke 20
The bad: small plexi-award, humid, location
The ugly: was 2nd master* but given age, post race refreshments (no more pancakes)

Saturday, December 01, 2012

first of last

first of last, what? Yep, this is the first weekend of the last month of 2012. Christmas is just 2 dozen days away!

Friday agenda-race

The marathon of palm beaches held a 5k & 10k last night but due to distance & duties (close at work), I had to pass on it. Congrats to those who raced, especially teammate Jon W. Heard both events were longer than usual.

Saturday agenda-race?

Found a lot of events today:

1. reggae marathon (half & 10 k)
2. spartan race CA
3. Savannah river bridge run
4. Santa hustle IL
5. the royal 5k
6. cca 5k
7. reindeer trot
8. cross country jingle bell jog
9. running with Danny road race

You may automatically eliminate all events out of FL: 1-5. I don't know where #7 was held nor #9 so scratch those. I like both of the remaining so I chose normal footing over grass.

External conditions=comfortable but windy, internal conditions=stomach & tired. I had to contend with a lot of kids plus the aforementioned but when the dust cleared, I won my age group, praise the Lord. However, time was still unacceptable & position worse (not even in bakers dozen). Everybody got medals. Average post race.

Sunday agenda-race?

Some more events today:

a.  spartan race CA
b. Brandon half & 5k
c. palm beaches marathon (& half)
d. Hollywood half

With enough in tri-county area, wipe out a & b. I normally go to c. but decided on the inaugural instead. It was poorly done but hopefully will improve next year. What I liked were the finishers medal, friendly race organizers & a new course for a change.

The following short comings must be rectified:

1. cotton T's to men (ladies got tech shirts)
2. only top 3 overall, no age groups
3. insufficient water stations
4. no sports drink offered
5. insufficient restroom facilities (had ladies in men's room)
6. horrific post race (only bananas & water)
7. website kept referring to CA when info regarding FL needed
8. fee, especially considering what was offered
9. no clocks at mile markers (a great option)

I used this as a training run and was an unofficial sub 2 hour pacer and had fun, so I recommend others to give it a try, especially if you want a new experience.

Thanksgiving weekend

Thanksgiving weekend begins today on 'turkey' day!

Thursday agenda-race!

Almost every important county has at least 1 'turkey trot' or Thanksgiving event. Therefore, I will only those of interest to me:

1. Subaru distance classic half & 5k (jax)
2. run 4 the pies
3. JCC turkey trot 5k
4. mr turkey tri/du
5. tamarac turkey trot
6. ft lauderdale turkey trot
7. gobble wobble 5k
8. Miami turkey trot 5k/10k

Eliminate the former since there's plenty of races in tri-county area. In fact, take out #2 & #3 to limit within 2 counties. Using been there, done that rule, I passed on 5 & the latter. Just found out #7 was held last Saturday, so cant run that today. Unfortunately, I cant do both inaugural events (4 & 6) so I had to use the been there, done that rule in regards to type of event; I never did a du on Thanksgiving in my entire career so that won!

Even though he represented the republicans, I still enjoy Clint Eastwood as a person (liked most of those movies he made). Therefore, I'll make your day with this synopsis:

The good: cool weather, 2nd age, 8 overall (including a relay)
The bad: still sick, bike time (barely over 20)
The ugly: transitions (among slowest), was 3rd master but gave out only 1, 5k cancelled

This was an inaugural duathlon & triathlon on thanksgiving so I'm now part of history. I like the fact I was guaranteed hardware, since finishers medals were given. Of course, I want more than that and by the grace of God, I got it. Even though my time was slower than it should have been, the guy who beat me still would've, just a lesser deficit.

Congratulations to all who raced, especially my friends & RD teammates!

Friday agenda-black

This is one of the few years I skipped all the hype & just decided to rest. After all, I had been sick for about 3 weeks! I may missed out on a lot of bargains but then again, I wasn't looking for anything in particular this year.

Saturday agenda-race?

I had a chance for a double header. In the morning was run around the lakes 5k and in the afternoon was beach2bar. Problem with the latter was distance (Stuart) & price so I stuck with the former, which was far enough (boca).

The good: cool weather, 3rd age, 8 overall, lakes
The bad: late and tight start with race on narrow paved trail, small hill & a double loop within.
The ugly: only top overall and age group, therefore no award, basic post race

Sunday agenda-race?

I found 2 of interest:

a. space coast marathon
b. pal half marathon

I been there, done that with the former, so the latter would be my choice if I decided to travel far; I pass. I need to mitigate financial damage for other upcoming events. I opted for crosstraining instead, utilizing my inlines with running. Sadly, I end the month without hardware by no fault of my own.

2

2; that's my number for this weekend!

Saturday agenda-race!

I love that the running season is back! so many to choose from this day:

1. fenway time trial (spartan race MA)
2. delray turkey trot
3. miles for makayla 5k
4. bull run
5. 5k run for hunger
6. pinecrest 5k
7. miracle run

Eliminate the former=out of state. With this many races, I was able to skip palm beach, wiping out 2 and 3. I found out about #6 too late so I wound up doing a double header (2) with the same timing company, accuchip; strike #4.

The first race was #5. Originally, I had about 2 hours between the finish of the first to start of second between 2 counties. However, since it started nearly 40 minutes late, I was afraid my mission might fail. As soon as I finished the 5k, had I to leave without know results nor an award to have a chance at the 2nd race.

The latter (race 2) closed out the day. It was not a 5k (short) so I got a record time. Despite the distance, I had to run to ensure placement, and by the grace of God, I was second (2) only to Jon. I got a generic medal & rushed home for results & rest (sick)

Sunday agenda-race!

Some more to choose from this day:

a. norcal beast (spartan race)
b. usatf-fl jr Olympics regional cc championships (jax)
c. purple stride 5k
d. rnr Latin music half

Eliminate the former=out of state. b=strike 2, for kids & extremely far. Would do c. but need d. since I don't do enough long runs.

I come again as a 2 hour pacer representing runners depot for the 2nd time. I am happy to have done 2 halves within 2 weeks in preparation for the Disney marathon next year. This time, the course was more challenging. Less wind but more heat & humidity (not really bad). I did a better job this time, spot on in terms of the clock. I had to do this still battling illness.

Veteran's weekend

Veteran's weekend is upon us! The day is officially Sunday but let's start honoring all those military, dead or alive, who served admirably to protect and defend because freedom is not free!

Friday agenda-race?

I found 2:

1. light the night 5k
2. waterford 5k

I had to pass on both due to current health condition (sick & out of shape) to prepare for the weekend.

Saturday agenda-race!

This day was stacked with events, too many to name. Therefore, I shall list those that interested me:

1. spartan norcal beast
2. Disney wine & dine half
3. Naples 15k
4. run to restore hope 5k
5. fantasy of lights 5k
6. sallarulos race for champions 5k
7. carbon monoxide awareness 5k
8. S. FL youth developmental championships
9. key biscayne lighthouse run 5k/10k
10. 5k wild walk
11. reason to run 5k
12. key largo bridge run (half/5k)

I had the opportunity to do a double header (#2, and 5=night races) but forced to pass due to more intense, flu-like illness. Needed to rest for endurance event next day. Meanwhile, I still needed a tune up race for that.

#1 automatically eliminated since out of state. With enough races in tri county area, #3 is out. #8 is for kids; gone. # 10 & 11 were good choices I inadvertently missed, along with #7. I like the latter but it is south of where I needed to drop off packet to teammate. My last memory of #9 was disrespect to runners like me because they removed the half hour interval between races (can't pay them more money to run twice) and no award ceremony (stand in line, give name & get frame with certificate in you placed); no go! My original selection was #6 but fell through, so I wound up with the remaining.

Turned out to be a great decision. Although the furthest, it was an inaugural and featured what I like from my original choice, finishers medals! I had a good scare since the top 3 were all faster than me, (one of which was a master), not to mention I am still sick, but by the grace of God, were the only men who beat me, thereby allowing me to win the master title despite my dismal time !

Sunday agenda-race?

Less but still a good selection:

a. trirock clearwater
b. 5k classic (lido key)
c. zoe loren make a difference 5k
d. 13.1 ft Lauderdale (& karhu 5k)
e. Miami man

Since the former would require a swimmer; strike 1. With enough in the tri-county area, b=strike 2. The latter would also require a swimmer for the tri, but the du was possible. I remember struggling through it a couple of years ago healthy; glad I didn't pick that this year. Normally c. would win but with lack of long runs, I needed d.

This was my first official role as a pacer. I selected 2 hours to be comfortable enough to do the distance carrying a sign. It was a race but I didn't really race. Considering I was running sick, it still felt like a race enough the pace was much slower than normal. It didn't help that it was extremely windy nor that I was sick, but the overcast did. I hope to do better next time because I couldn't hold up that sign with all that wind. I forgot that the karhu 5k began 5 minutes prior and was running faster than scheduled. I had to slow down in the last mile to allow anyone who was on pace to catch up. Before the start, anyone asking was told I want to beat 2 hours, just not by a large margin. I finished with 1:59:23. Shot out to Rosa L who I put on a team but got lost and wound up doing 11 miles.

Monday agenda-veteran's day (observed)

Saturday, November 03, 2012

fall back!

fall back! It's daylight savings time! We 'gain' an hour so I rest a little more. Need it now since I got sick (caught the bug from co-workers).

Saturday agenda-race!

Most events for the weekend were scheduled today:

1. purple stride 5k (Tampa)
2. wellington community fitness run
3. stepping out to cure scleroderma 5k
4. cell-ebration 5k
5. making democracy run
6. red kettle 5k
7. glow run

With so many available, I passed on the 1st 3 due to distance. Due to illness and previous engagement, I passed on the latter that couldve made this a double header day, not to mention that the race day fee (found out about event last night) was $45 and with no clear answer on age groups, that's a no go! as for #6, first, i didn't like paying to get into that 'dump' last time and #2, under current internal conditions, the course would likely be too challenging. With the remaining, I picked the one I knew how to get to, passing on #5.

The weather (external conditions) was great, cool with little wind, however, internal conditions were bad (sick this day & most of week). I actually lead (reluctantly) about half the race, sometimes pacing with Rachelle, the overall female winner. Then some 29 year old passed me and at one point a large margin. By the grace of God, I caught up to him by 3 mile marker, then the sprint was on! Unfortunately, I couldn't match up with his young legs & shape and forced to settle for runner up. All who placed got medals.

Sunday agenda-race!

All I was aware of was NYC marathon and boca pal half/5k. The former was cancelled at last moment by cowardice mayor due to pressure from non running community & negative newscasters over the event running despite the fact a cat 2 hurricane (sandy) went by causing some damage. On top of that, the NYRRC added insult to injury by only guaranteeing your slots, if you pay the higher entry fee next year. That means you lose ALL your money, not to mention time invested ! Well, I been there, done that so no need to risk entering again. More bad news, but this affected only me. I did the latter event but not the half (got 2 lined up after this weekend). For the first time since I done this events, most of the elite distance runners thought the same as me, which means I lost before the race even started; I saw 5 master runners in my cat faster than me, even on a good day! This, by the way, opened up the path for teammate Jon W to win the entire half.  It didn't help that I was feeling sicker and more tired, plus slower than the previous day. What I feared came to pass, but considering the aforementioned, I faired better than expected finishing 4th in age group. Gotta get well and back to the drawing board!

trick or treat?

trick or treat? Halloween falls on Tuesday following this weekend. With so many events (treats), the trick is figuring out which ones to do.

A treat was an event on Friday, dade county sports foundation 1 mile CC; trick is that I had to miss that.

Saturday agenda-race!

It's like a runner's dream (treat) with so many to pick from, but also a nightmare (treat) since conflicts force you to limit to 1 (2 if an evening event):

1. spartan Midwest super (IL)
2. 13.1 Dallas
3. Jason's run 5k
4. making democracy run 5k
5. every boob counts 5k
6. safe walk-run 5k
7. YMCA 5k
8. spooktacular 5k
9. Miami beach Halloween half

There was at least 1 event in the tri county area, probably something in the keys as well. Therefore I could easily rule out the first 2 and #4. #3 was considered since I could do a double header but I passed due to distance and turn of events for the next day. #5 was the furthest of the tri county events listed above; strike 2. The latter was ruled out for 2 reasons: #1- course, #2- will be racing in Miami beach 3 weeks from now, don't need or like to be there that much (parking). #6 put on by dr Sam, great person & cause but would cost me the most to race (furthest in broward). I like #8 but chose #7 because I never did it before.

This race is best summed up Clint Eastwood style:

The good (treat): podium (1 ag), cool weather (almost wore long sleeve)
The bad: windy (trick), medal ((treat) missed 3 oa will time I could've done in the past)
The ugly (trick): no master title, time (cost me trophy)

Chris O & Spencer W took the top slots at the race, I would've taken the master if it were offered. Due to poor signage, I went off course slightly near the end. Fortunate to have a big enough lead and not get disqualified.

Sunday agenda-race!

Not as many but still plenty of events:

a. Oceanside half (Jensen)
b. wellington ten miler (& 5k)
c. running scared 5k
d. Halloween 5k
e. ironman 70.3 Miami
f. gables bike day

Found out about the former at last moment but would've passed due to distance. I already did a ten miler, so I pass on b. As far as c., it is part of fiu series, in which the 1st one was cancelled and the second moved without proper notice (I came on scheduled day but found out the hard way), therefore I did not want to risk a third disappointment. Forced to pass on e. since I don't swim. I planned on the latter but after doing d., a bit of rest and early voting, no time for it.

I pre registered for another event but it got moved due to fear of the hurricane Sandy that past us. Therefore, I had to pick an event at the last moment and pay top dollar. Unfortunately, you get ripped off when that happens. I was considered lucky to get a tshirt but denied a swag bag (trick), which means, once again, I paid more to get less; bummer. I sought to get 'revenge' for my dismal performance yesterday. To my dismay, this was a high quantity, high quality race, which will demand my A game. Except for the wind, weather was cool (not as much as the last race though). This was an inaugural event, partly why I picked it. Most of the race was in the dolphin mall parking lot but the last 3/4 was within the mall, very unique (treat).

The good (treat): podium (1 ag), cool weather, finishers medal, improved over last race over a minute
The bad: windy (trick), twisty course (trick), medal
The ugly (trick): time still not up to par, cost me master title won with time I used to beat

Octoberfest!

Octoberfest! Dubbed such just by the shear number of races.

Saturday agenda-race!

I found a whole bunch of events today:

1. ghostly gecko 5k
2. doggie bones 5k
3. schott 5k
4. race for the cure 5k
5. Haiti at zoo Miami 5k

I passed on the first 2 since I found events on my coast. #4  starts too late & no real age categories. I originally planned on the latter but decided on #3 since I don't remember ever doing it before.

The weather was better than it has been lately, much cooler & drier. However, so was the competition (better). Considering my struggles and the great showing of teams, mine-runner's depot and the other-run wild, I faired well. The overall winner was from our team, beating out the best of theirs, who came barrelling from behind.

My experience, Clint Eastwood style:

The good: 3 ag, 5 star breakfast
The bad: barely broke 20
The ugly: medal, got past by a little girl

Sunday agenda-race!

I found some more events this day:

a. run on the beach half/10k
b. rocktoberfest 10 miler
c. sarcoma 5k
d. fau homecoming 5k
e. epitome of excellence cross country
f. homestead speedway

I passed on the last two (cross country & bike ride). The first 2 are distance events and considering my lack of long runs, I had to pass on c., an event I enjoyed in the past. I'm not too keen on running on the beach so I returned to b.

To make it short and sweet, I'll give you my experience Clint Eastwood style:

The good: 2 ag (glass mug), cool weather, low wind
The bad: declined rapidly after 5 miles
The ugly: failed to maintain 7 min goal pace (fell way short).

I decided to attempt a triple crown and entered event d.

The conditions were exact opposite of morning and was hot, humid and windy. That with my worn down state was a recipe for disaster. As my dad says, the worst position to be is 4th; I got that.

Great start, terrible finish for the weekend. However, 2 out of 3 aint bad. See you at the races!

Mid month crisis (Oct)

Mid month crisis (Oct)

Saturday agenda-race

I found the following:

1. survivor mud run
2. bulldog 5k dash
3. plantation heat cross country invite
4. avda 5k
5. livelong 5k/half
6. pursuit of honor 5k

I passed on the former since #1, not a 5k and #2, don't know where it is. Skipped #2 due to distance (Naples). Yeah, I know that I travel there but I found races closer, like on my coast. Passed on #3 since there are plenty of standard races. #5 was too expensive. I originally planned on the latter, especially since it's an inaugural but went against my better and paid dearly!

Here's the Clint Eastwood synopsis:

The good: made the dirty dozen, top ten males, cool (low 70), pancake breakfast
The bad: rain, windy, medals (if lucky)
The ugly: award categories reduced (only 1 oa & master). that combined with poor performance (weather & long drive got to me) meant I failed to place

Sunday agenda-race

Not as many choices, therefore maybe I wont screw up:

a. livelong ride (metric century, half metric & 10.2)
b. shark shuffle 5k
c. tradewinds du/tri
d. parkland dash

Pass on the former (ride). The rest, I like. I usually miss b. to do c., but decided on the latter because I never did it before.

Here's another Clint Eastwood synopsis:

The good: made the bakers dozen, no rain, got last slot in my age group, 5k & 10k
The bad: windy, medals (if lucky)
The ugly: only 1 master. worse performance (weather & long drive must've got to me again), post race refreshment (basically bagels & cut bananas only)

Columbus weekend

Columbus weekend is upon us. Monday celebrates when Chris poorly navigated and landed here by accident, hence, discovering America. It was a sad day for the native Americans as he and the crew got by the original homeland security.

Saturday agenda-race!

Most events are today:

1. 13.1 ATL
2. spartan Vermont beast
3. beyond blind fest 5k
4. fight for air 5k
5. alpha omega cross country
6. running with Danny

I passed on the first two (out of FL), skipped #5 because there are standard events available and the latter because I couldn't confirm if or when it is being held. I had a chance to do a double header since #3 starts at 7:30 and #4, 2 hours later but the first one was too expensive ($40) so I couldn't afford to do the other, not due to ability.

Shot out to Caroline to help alleviate the travel time race morning as the race was way up in Jupiter, a few exits from martin county! I had been battling a mysterious knee injury during the week plus felt a bit sick last couple of days. It was hot & humid as expected, so I didn't know what to expect. First mile was slow, and the following even slower as I seemed to decline rapidly. By the grace of God, despite a dismal time, I won the master title! The icing on the cake-top ten in race; glad it was a lower 'quality' event. top overall & master got plaques, the rest medals; normal age groups.

Saturday agenda-race?

Yes, I found some:

1. steeple chase
2. Marco island tri
3. Dunn's run 5k/5 miler

I couldn't confirm the former, so strike that. I like the latter but I was invited to be on team, so #2 it is! The cyclist, John Beagle, picked me (2nd choice) and the swimmer, Brittany. He knew my ability but we weren't sure of hers & she of mine but by the grace of God, we all gelled and won the co-ed category. I was a bit of a challenge for me to run in the sand but fortunately, it was truly hard packed. The team was appropriately named, the tri B's. Finishers medals to all but impressed with the glass plaques given (heavy) to category winners. Post race was 5 star with hot meal (burritos, including veggie)! Tech tees to entrants as well. My first but 2nd annual event.

Final weekend (Sept)

Final weekend (Sept) is here. What can I squeeze in before it's over?

Saturday agenda-race!

Seems like all races were scheduled for today:

1. spartan VT beast (not sure today)
2. ft desoto du/tri
3. aia training run 15k/30k
4. flrunners invitational
5. run 10k feed 10
6. Miami children's 5k

Naturally, I passed on the former because it's out of FL. and #2 due to distance. #3 is not a race; strike 1. #4 is track & field and with standard races available, strike 2. #5 was run a 10k with women's health and seemed like a fun run (no categories), strike 3. I chose the latter!

It was hot & humid as expected. Mile markers but clocks. Unfortunately, for me, my pace was increasing (getting worse) as the temperature was rising; my time was sub-par. When the dust cleared, after a long wait, I was pleased to win my age group. This race was great in that all who finished got hardware. The icing on the cake are the category winners, especially overall, who got a free cell phone!

Sunday agenda-race?

I was aware of a few:

a. wineglass marathon
b. 5k fun mud run
c. golden panther chase

Naturally, I passed on the former because it's out of FL. Due to cost & fear of injury, #2 was ruled out, meaning I chose the latter.

I found out the hard way the race was moved to Saturday, conflicting with the race I did. I met a random female who said she was a start sign yesterday and a lot of cars parking. The only consolation I got was that I was not the only one. I met 2 who registered, 1 who even had a number that he picked up on Friday at early packet pick up. We ended up doing solo training runs. I did a mystery distance at a mystery pace. I estimate that at least 7 miles were completed.

Autumnal equinox

Autumnal equinox (fall) is upon us. Of course, it doesn't exist in Florida; we only have 2 seasons!

Saturday agenda-race?

I found 3 events:

1. 40th birthday bash
2. splash & dash (kid's aquathlon)
3. Spanish river youth cross country

Well, since I'm no spring chicken, you can rule out the last 2, leaving the former.

This fun run was GFLRRC's 40th birthday bash. I volunteered prior, then paced with some of best friends along the way to the finish. This way my way of giving back to the community. I had the pleasure of running alongside George, Jacky, Julie, Emily and Louis, utilizing various speeds.

Saturday agenda-race!

2 triathlons, club med or escape to Miami. Tough choice as I would enjoy both but can only be involved in one. We're 'back 4 more' @ the latter ! It was a bit windy, hot & humid as expected but not much sun. In fact, it rain but luckily prior, not during, or at least I didn't remember. Unfortunately for me, I tried to adjust the speed sensor while on the move & cut my thumb badly before even the first bridge. I had to suffer the entire ride bleeding. The competition in the Olympic race was stiff so we didn't place but we were rewarded with finishers medals. I am still elated to have my favorite teammates, Inga & Gene.

mid month crisis (Sept)

mid month crisis (Sept)! My dilemma continues, unfortunately.

Saturday agenda-race!

I found a few events:

1. Jeff Anna's firefighters 5k
2. prostate cancer 5k
3. ups 5k
4. coach to first class cross country

The latter was put on by a very good runner friend but I usually race 5ks. I chose the second over the remaining because I still have a bad taste in my mouth over paying more to get less (ups failed to deliver a tech shirt due to me) and the former was the furthest away.

I could still feel the humidity (& heat) despite overcast skies & rain (prior to start). I always hate racing at Huizenga park because of the course (bridge x2) and parking. Now add wet ground! For some odd reason, I struggled very bad, with times get progressively worse per mile. Despite a dismal time barely breaking 21, I got 3rd; Praise the Lord! Allan W showed but decided not to race, allowing me to squeak in & onto the podium. It was tougher also because only 1 master title given. All who placed got medals.

Saturday agenda-race?

Happy rosh hashanah! I was aware of a race (hooters to hooters 5/10 k) on the west coast, but just like the weather, I was feeling gloomy and on top of that, must regulate expenses since gas went up. Pulled out my bike and trained in the rain since I'm gonna need it for next week. Afterwards, cut grass until the gas ran out.

Pre terrorist attack day anniversary

Pre terrorist attack day anniversary (9/11) is approaching this Tuesday. I got in a couple of races this weekend prior to that reminder of cruel people who negatively changed how we live here in America.

Saturday agenda-race!

2 events were held to commemorate the above mentioned:

1. tunnel to towers run
2. 5k freedom run

I did the former as an inaugural last year along with another on the same day, so I chose the latter (first time doing it, not an inaugural).

Synopsis, Clint Eastwood style:

The good: won age group, top ten, 2 medals, 1=finisher
The bad: hot & humid, parking far away
The ugly: $40 entry fee, time, medal instead of master plaque

Sunday agenda-race!

Apart from Chicago half, I found another 2 events, both of which I like but could only do 1:

a. firefighter 5k
b. trilogy bonus round (finale)

I like to finish what I started, and since I already invest my $, the latter wins! I got the same teammates as last time. Prior to this event, we set both team & personal goals. The team goal of sub 1 hour was met. They met their personal goals, I failed. However, I did beat my last time & was the fastest cyclist of all relays today ! We beat all teams and A.C.T. Motivated is the best tri sprint relay of this year @ KB trilogy! Thanx Fabi and Omar!

Running season begins!

Running season begins! It's the unofficial start.

Saturday agenda-race?

I considered the following:

1. legacy run 5k
2. john clay 5k
3. king of hill 5k + trail

The first 2 are on the FL west coast. Having just did that last week, I passed & selected the latter. However, I ran into many problems:

1. difficulty reaching the one responsible to team comps
2. failure to get registered (both above & on site, reasons following)
3. got lost trying to find vista view park (gps didn't recognize & vista view 360 brochure sent me 360)
4. back up getting into the park; can u believe they charged me 2 get into that dump?

Therefore, instead of a search & rescue (go for award), it became a search & recover (train &/or pace). I was my opportunity to give back to the community and Emily was selected. Along with Louis, she ran good & got 3rd in her class. I may have been the same had I raced hard.

Sunday agenda-race?

Found only 1, rnr half VA. I cant afford to travel at this time, so training it is. I got on my since I'm gonna need to race it next week. Very hot & humid and wind kick in mid-ride.

Monday agenda-race?

Happy labor day! Race? Yes! I had to travel but I did the canes cross country 5k. Although I failed to break 20, I at least made the podium (2nd to some local with low 19). It was hot & humid, lots of grass, roots & dirt.

Saturday, August 25, 2012

Isaac!

Isaac! that's the name of the tropical storm threatening to become a hurricane. However, whether it does or not, lots of rain & winds will impact Florida, especially the keys & Miami.

Saturday agenda-race!

I found a few:

1. ft desoto du/tri
2. cape 5k
3. regional rampage 5k

Note that all events are far, therefore, I picked the one with the most meaning, the latter. I come in as 2 time defending champion. Unfortunately, I left that way as well since a 17 year old local got it this year. I also failed to get the master title due to a faster local runner

Sunday agenda-race?

I found a little known event but it was cancelled due to unpredictable weather. I ran a random distance at at random point. 3.65 gps miles in tropical storm weather. This is how I close out august.

2

2, that's seems 2 b my number this weekend.

Saturday agenda-race?

I found a couple (2) of events:

1. ING kick off 5k
2. dreyer park dash

I had the opportunity to do a double header (2) but chose the former as training. Since this is a fun run with fringe benefits (top 25 get a finisher gift), I had no need for speed. However, I chose to run the first mile with Allan W and broke 6 min. I then cut down too drastically in the 2nd mile (7:30), forcing me to run more normal in the final mile.

Sunday agenda-race!

I found a lot of events this day:

1. 13.1 (MN)
2. rnr marathon (RI)
3. KB trilogy #3

I'm broke like a joke so the latter was my only realistic option. The who who swam in KB trilogy #2, decided to run and a picked a good swimmer in his stead. He got us off to a great start. Unfortunately for me, I was paired against a great cyclist, was about 15 seconds slower than last time and got blown away by over 2 minutes. Fortunately, Omar chopped down the deficit to less than 2 seconds. Although, we had to settle for second, we did great as a team.

Saturday, August 11, 2012

drought

This weekend, I'm experiencing a drought in regards to racing. Although I found some, unlike the Christmas weekend, just like it, I am not racing; I'm so bummed!

Saturday agenda-race?

Not! I found the following below but all* are far:

1. Mt sneffels marathon & half (CO)
2. i run 4 pizza 5k
3. Coteeman Triathlon
4. brevard aquathon
5. cool summer mornings 5k #2
6. central Florida tri #2
7. tour de pain
8. la roootaaa regataaaa (*only local event)

Since gas just rose up, still on injury recovery plus I ate something last night that made me sick, I opted to train instead. Since my running has suffered, that is what I needed to do. However, since I didn't feel good, I had to do a shorter than planned one at a slower than planned pace. 6 miles is ok but I wanted more.

Sunday agenda-race?

Not! I found the following below but most are far:

1. Tiger Shark Triathlon #3
2. summer pride 5k
3. end less summer tri
4. oleta 100 miles

Guess what? Back to the drawing board (training) but first, I'm gonna watch the men's Olympic marathon! Afterwards, I did a skate, run, skate cross train that wiped me out (heat & humidity), got home to watch the rest of basketball.

Saturday, August 04, 2012

Olympics!

Olympics! It began last week but what I've been waiting for started today-running! What a 10k race. Alberto Salazar coached the top 2 winners! The silver went to U.S.A., first time since 1964!

Saturday agenda-race!

I found some events:

1. Siesta key du/tri
2. Moss park 10k/5k
3. running with Danny 5k trail
4. strider's track meet

I was discouraged with the distance to travel to the first two, especially since that drive would likely have had to start last night. #2 had same events yesterday but that would be impossible without a day off. I thought about #3 until I noticed the venue changed from Virginia key to oleta; now been there, done that. Therefore, the latter wins!

I needed to do this anyway since an event conflict forced me to miss the northwest track event for the first time since ??? like a decade. Let me break it down in the order the events were run:

1. 1 mile open and 1 mile master normally run separately but combined due to low turnout. I was 3rd, declared 4th open but 2nd master. I got pushed by Aldo's wife and we both broke 6 minutes.
2. 100 meter-can you believe they followed the longest run with the shortest? I stumbled at the start and had to settle for silver.
3. 800 meter-now for the 2nd longest. Aldo won this one & #1. I could've caught 2nd but knew I needed to conserve for remaining events; I settled for bronze. Anyway, my nike spike shoes disintegrated (dejavu), forcing me to change them.
4. 200 meter-new spikes and 2nd surge, I finally won a heat, beating 2 guys who kept beating me.
5. 400 meter-on a high from the previous, I had to reminisce passing Jon W in the past to overcome my fears. By the grace of God, it worked and I gold again
6. Keno mile-feature event and fun one for me. I decided to racewalk but performed miserably, therefore way off my prediction. My legs were just to tight from all the previous running.

Sunday agenda-race?

Not! I only found Moss park 10k/5k, #3. I considered it until I realized how long the drive would be, plus gas went up again. Therefore, I opted to train instead. Once again, I pulled out my inlines and skated 12 miles.

Saturday, July 28, 2012

close out weekend

This is close out weekend because it is the last weekend of this month. That means last chance at redemption and racing before the new month.

Saturday agenda-race!

I found about about a trail 5k at Amelia but that didn't matter. I returned to eagle lakes for part 2 of the elite series. I return as 2 time defending champ. Even though so far my title seems lost, due to better competition and poorer personal performance, I am still proud of my accomplishments and will not shirk running. I think I'll give the Clint Eastwood synopsis of the race:

The good: 2nd age (podium), improved time from last, ankle felt fine.
The bad: 2nd age (trail same guy again), worst overall position
The ugly: 2nd age (trail in series, possibly out), still not under 19

Sunday agenda-race!

I found some:

1. wipro San Francisco marathon
2. trail races 5/10/half
3. Huntington's disease tri

I definitely skipped the former, missed the center one because I opted to return to the latter! However, with a new cast. The U.S. has their dream team, I have mine. James agreed to return & he is the fastest swimmer I ever had on any team. Just as rare to get Boris to be on a team with me was the honor I had to get another elite athlete, Eliot! The pressure was on me not to hurt the team I put together too much. James did not disappoint & was the only one to break ten minutes. He had us in the lead, but as expected, I got caught from behind by better cyclists. By God's grace, we arrived to dismount even (tied) but I got the exchange off seconds prior. Regardless, once Elliot began running, that's all she wrote; we won by 4 minutes! He was the only one to break 20.We won the male category but were the fastest team period!

Saturday, July 21, 2012

Who lee? oh!

Who lee? oh! That's how to pronounce July in Spanish.

Thursday agenda-run, sweat & beers

Itching for race, I returned to this venue despite my memory of struggling here last year. I had to rush from work to make it. It was hot & humid with no clouds nor shade. Besides contending with that and my injury, what sealed my doom was first, my legs seemed to weigh a ton, which resulted in some difficulty with proper breathing. I had to just get through it like a marathon but no finishers medal for my efforts.

Saturday agenda-race?

I found a couple:

1. race for baby (Naples)
2. Hemingway days 5k

Both were far, so in light of recent events, I decided to train instead. I utilized the same workout as last time. I got similar results.

Sunday agenda-race!

I found a couple more:

1. rnr Chicago half
2. tri trilogy #2

Guess which one I'm doing? the latter!

The team I created at motivation man, A.C.T. movitavated, won trilogy #1 with the same swimmer, Tommy. Unfortunately, he left with his wife out of the country but yet I still want to race. I asked same the person I first approached (Omar) to do motivation man (but later declined) and this time he agreed. He is a good runner (Jose) but opted to get a friend (iRun teammate) to do that so that we could concentrate on 1 discipline; wise decision. For both, it was the first time being on a relay. For the swimmer, his first race ever swimming! Collectively, we were the fastest relay but given the title first male tri team. We did the sprint, not the Olympic, since I began the series that way. A du was available & the past 2 years, Spence & I ruled that; sadly, he opted out this year.

Saturday, July 14, 2012

Mid month crisis (Jul)

Mid month crisis (Jul) is here again. It began with yesterday, Friday the 13th!

Saturday agenda-race!

I found 2:

1. ft desoto tri/du
2. beat the heat 5k

I chose the latter because it was the closest far race plus I got to carpool with JW. Its #2 of a 3 race series. Since I missed the first & the last conflicts with another series I'm in, this was just something to do. It was cooler then lately, which was pleasing. Other than that, still struggled, especially with injury. When the dust cleared, I made the top ten despite a dismal time. I lost winning my age group by a second (lost the sprint to the finish) by an out of towner (RI). Jon got a trophy for winning the master title, not the 3rd overall (not honored) that he was. Everybody else got medals. Afterwards, we went to runner's depot grand reopening. There were many vendors & contests; I did the shoestring one.

Once I got home, my brother informed me at the last moment that Bob & family were in town for 2 weeks and are leaving tonight and he was invited to their pool party that I dub, 'krensonpalooza'. Sadly, I couldn't rest from events prior but I couldn't miss out on this opportunity. I couldn't stay but so long because I was preparing to go to Ronnie hollassie's pool party that I was invited to weeks prior by the organizer, Carey.

The event I attended in the afternoon to the evening was renamed, 'runnerpalooza' and was conducted much like a race, less the t-shirts. When you arrive, you receive a 'race' number & then entered into a raffle; no, I didn't get jack. There were tents set up with most that appear at races, like runners depot, running wild & GFLRRC. Many sponsors were there, like snapple, zico and smoothie company. Plenty to eat from people who brought dishes. I apologize that I came empty handed. What I planned to bring I inadvertently left home in a rush to get to this event after the last one.

Sunday agenda-race?

No, but the frank stark ride was available and is a fun event. I had to pass on that due to distance (Boca) and weather (drizzling). I decided to train despite that near home with a dual discipline workout. I did a 10k skate, talked to friends in transition then a 2.5-3 mile run.

Independence weekend

Independence weekend begins today!

Wednesday agenda-race!

There were a plethora of events but I only considered the following:

1. patriot dash 5k
2. independence du/tri
3. Weston classic 5k

I chose the former because I been there, done that with the rest. To my dismay, my left ankle was in severe pain prior to the race. It took me 2 miles in the race just to manage a decent pace afterwards. By then, too little, too late. I was fortunate to finish with low to mid 20 but unfortunately, did not place. 16 oa, came back to beat all woman (behind 3rd in that 2 mile adjustment). Back to the drawing board.

Saturday agenda-race!

I only found 1 race, the Roger 'RC' Campagnolo 5k heart walk/run. Besides the heat and humidity, I had to contend with my ankle injury. By the grace of God, I was fourth overall, despite a dismal time. due to the terrible categories, I got 2nd in ten year age category, whereas I would have been the master winner if they honored the top 3. Except for the overall (Jon W got gift basket instead), all who placed got medals. I was happy because it's my first award of the month!

Sunday agenda-race?

Yes! Thanks to Shannon, I got a swimmer (her boyfriend is also a triathlete) who agreed to be on the team. We were involved in the inaugural Naples triathlon. He also did the bike so I can concentrate on the run. When the dust cleared, she won her age group and we were 2nd male relay, 3rd team overall. We got champagne or wine glass awards for our efforts. I had a blast!

Sunday, July 01, 2012

Transition weekend (summer 12)

Transition weekend (summer 12) is upon us!

Saturday agenda-freedom 5k

Today is my last chance to race this month. I couldnt find any other race and it appears likewise as the turnout was incredible, including Jon! While he did well (top master), I struggled. My training has been hindered by injury and the heat & humidity didnt help either. By the grace of God, I made the podium, but barely (3rd age). I started off great but surcame to conditions after that first mile. Decent spread at the post race.

Sunday agenda-race?

This is my first chance to race this month. Unfortunately, I couldnt find any race, so I have to train instead. Therefore, I pulled out my inlines & rolled 12 miles. Guess I gotta wait till the holiday for my first race of the month; wish me luck!

Sunday, June 24, 2012

Summer is here!

Summer is here! It began officially (summer solstice) 7-ish on Wednesday, plus was the longest day of the year.

Thursday agenda-NBA finals, game 4

All the heat had to do was win this game to take the series. Well, they crushed them, sending a message. As I am the 2 time elite 5k champion, so shall the heat as finals champs!

Saturday agenda-race

I found 2 events, rnr Seattle and sugden 5k. The former is out of Florida and the latter, I am 2 time defending champ. guess which one I went to?

So, I made it to Naples. It was overcast but still humid. The field was tougher plus I am slower than last year. The odds were against me but I still showed up! When the dust cleared, I made the top ten but could only get 2nd in my age group. Fitting, since I barely broke 20. Depending on what the other 8 do in future races will determine how I land in the series this year.

Sunday agenda-race?

I found 1, the Morton plant mease tri, but with no swimmer, that's out! I wanted to roll but it literally rained on my parade. Other than running, cycling is the only other activity I do in the rain. Therefore, I rode my bike, picking cross training.

Monday, June 18, 2012

Mid month crisis (Jun).

Mid month crisis (Jun). Y? Very few races plus still struggling.

Saturday agenda-race?

I found 2:

1. mud run (GA)
2. eagles 5k

Definitely not the former, out of state. I considered the latter but opted against it due to the distance (ft Myers) and the weather (rain & lightning). Once again, I pulled out my inlines and rolled a 10k.

Sunday agenda-race!

Sounds funny but the first of 4 in the key Biscayne trilogy begins this day. It was the only event I even considered. Now, what do I do? Sprint or Olympic? The former as I already did the latter 2 weeks ago. Next, du or tri? If solo the former for sure, either way with help. Lucky to find someone (Tommy) willing to swim, I accepted the task of double duty (everything on land) once again.

Two weeks ago, this was the first time we teamed up & took 2nd. It was hot, humid and windy. The odds were stacked against us but by the grace of God, our combined efforts brought us from 5th to the top of the podium. We were dubbed 1st male relay, but actually, we beat every team, regardless of category. I was fortunate to perform well enough to help the team despite the extra stress from an ex girlfriend making a scene over a situation created by her; God is good. Happy that finishers medals were given, not so pleased with the award medals & lesser categories.

Congrats to all finishers, including the ex.

Monday, June 11, 2012

Who knee oh!

Who knee oh! That's how June is pronounced in Spanish!

Saturday agenda-race?

I found the following:

1. NW track & field (actually began Friday)
2. 13.1 Chicago
3. road warriors 1800 mile run
4. summer sizzler

I normally do the former but on sunday since most of my events are on that day plus I have to wait all day; pass. #2 is eliminated=out of state. #4 began today but goes thru July 4th. I just don't have that kind of time nor endurance; 86ed! I was planning on the latter but since I'd have to travel to west coast of Florida under rain conditions and limited time, I decided against it, taking into account for injury as well. Instead, I pulled out my inlines & rolled a 10 k.

Sunday agenda-race!

1. cleft lip and palate 5k
2. trifecta #1
3. Naples du

Passed on the middle one because I had no swimmer. I would normally do the former, especially since it's a local race but opted for the latter because it's an inaugural.

This was the first duathlon in Naples since ??? It is almost my first individual duathlon of the year! It was hot and humid as expected but surprisingly, not windy. First run, no problem, except for the boardwalk section (over a half mile of that). However, the bike was a struggle, especially when I went longer off course due to lack of signage and personnel. Once I got back on the run, I hung in there to finish. By the grace of God, I won my age group. I was the dead last person to finish under an hour (16 oa). Ready for the next one!

inaugural weekend

I dub this inaugural weekend because both events I did were the first! What a way to open June. Not to forget, yesterday marked the official beginning of hurricane season.

Saturday agenda-race!

The choice was simple, motivation man triathlon if I could get a swimmer, or caba 5k if not; at the last moment, Tommy agreed, making the former possible.

All the people I wanted bowed out, including somebody who said yes last week then backed out on hump day! Although unproved, Tommy stepped up & agreed. I had the dreaded double duty (bike 40k then run 10k). Since a half iron option was available, I cant complain because that would've been much worse.

It was a mission for me to get there (downtown west palm beach) by 7 pm from south of zoo Miami. In fact, I failed but was close. I was allowed to rack the bike as required the day before but was given the run around regarding the tech shirts. The staff was too lazy to unpack them & said come back in morning. I did that, met with my teammate, got chip but still denied the tech shirts. They said they will give them to me at award ceremony in the evening.

All that I feared seemed to happen. It was hot, humid & windy, plus the bike course was filled with rolling hills. After I dismounted, I was spent. By the grace of God, I got through the 'longest' 10k, barely breaking an hour, and our team was 2nd male Olympic relay! I got to ceremony late and they still didn't call us until another hour later. When I asked for those tech shirts, guess what happened? Yep, denied with excuse they were stolen!

Sunday agenda-race!

Another inaugural event, run for the ribbons, was held at Lynn cancer institute and was for a good cause. I didn't know what to expect since I was still somewhat exhausted from the tri relay. I was a bit tired and tight as expected. It was hot & humid but less windy. When the dust cleared, I was just under mid 20's, bad but better than I thought may happen. Praise the Lord, I got 2nd, a nice glass age win. No master title was offered.

Later on, I visited the twilight run with a cameo appearance from Linda! She did her first race of the year while I did a training racewalk. We had lots of fun, and burnt lots of calories while exercising. After that, I went home to watch the heat lose in OT. I blame the refs with a bad call that cause the king to foul out.

Memorial day weekend

Memorial day weekend is upon us! While most are out enjoying themselves at a beach or party, such as urban beach weekend, many have paid the ultimate price to protect our freedom. A moment of silence. I give props to the troop and hope you do the same. Remember, freedom isn't free!

Saturday agenda-race?

Nothing local but found these events:

1. Sammy's run 5k (Sarasota)
2. run & water safety day (Melbourne)

To mitigate damages, I passed on those and decided to crosstrain. I pulled out my inlines & rolled for 12 miles, followed by a couple of striders.

Sunday agenda-race?
I actually found a local race with 3 events, 5k, 10k and a half but it's the off road variety. I cant risk further injury, plus I was with someone so I passed on that and opted for more training. I did a mid day ride. I remembered why I don't start training really late (noon) after feeling so exhausted from the external conditions (heat, humidity & wind). It didn't help that I was kind of tired as well.

Monday agenda-race!

Many races today but I only considered 2:

a. memorial day 5k (boca)
b. weston memorial 5k

I usually do the latter (major league) but since I never did the former, this is the year to give it a shot. Praise the Lord, I made the right decision. I struggled as expected with both internal & external conditions and blessed enough to place 2nd in my age group despite these issues. I wouldn't have had a rats chance with that dismal time in the other one. Decent post race & I like the plate as opposed to a generic medal.

I complete the weekend and month with roll, ride & run!

May flowers?

May flowers? Still suffering from April showers!

Saturday agenda-race!

A whole lot to choose from but could only pick 1:

1. Fargo marathon
2. covenant house 5k
3. sienas steps 5k
4. tour of gables 5k
5. keys 100

You can rule out #1, out of FL. I wasn't invited on any team, so the latter is gone as well. I have been to all the rest but am forced to pick only 1. #4 has the worst categories so I pass on that. It seems I got a message from God and picked the middle one. I did that last year & had some measure of success. However, I was faster back then.

It was hot & humid plus my internal conditions were poor (miss some workout due to circumstances beyond my control, including my treadmill breaking). I had a rocky start but when the dust cleared, I actually improved by a position despite the dismal time. Praise the Lord, as I got a plaque for being 2nd to the race winner!

Sunday agenda-race!

Not as many to choose from but still only can pick 1:

1. rnr Portland half
2. hallandale 5k/10k
3. mr tri Miami
4. race for relief 5k

You can rule out #1, out of FL. The rest are doable and I like them but can only do 1. I picked the latter based on proximity. The heat & humidity I expected but not what I went through. My time & position were much worse. With no master title, I could only get an age group title. Praise the Lord I got that but only a generic medal.

Mother's day weekend

Mother's day weekend is upon us! Thanx to JW, my race weekend began on Friday night. I cant make those races because I work but by the grace of God, my boss let me have the day off.

It was hot & humid (external conditions), kinda as expected. The course added to my misery, as it featured 2 loops in the cross country section (mostly sand and gravel) and 2/3 the course. On top of that, I wasn't at my best. Thankfully, despite a dismal time, I won my age group (40-49), barely making the baker's dozen. JW got a plaque as the master winner and we both needed to leave to prepare for the next day.

Saturday agenda-race!

Everybody crammed races this day to avoid Sunday. These were up for consideration:

1. Santa Barbara wine country half marathon
2. run for love 5k
3. the 5k race and power walk
4. run for the roses 5k
5. Lou Gehrig's disease 5k/10k

You can automatically rule out #1 (out of FL). I passed on 2 & 3 (palm beach). Although #5 is closest in proximity, #4 offers my best chance to place based on my current condition.

It was still hot & humid (external conditions), plus a bit windy. The course had lots of twists and turns but worse for us fellas, the women were given a 5 minute head start! That means we had to fight through the slow stragglers & walkers to get to the finish. I still failed to break 20 but made improvements from the previous day, including now in the dirty dozen. Prior to the race, I put Emily as a teammate for the open team division. She won her age group, I got 2nd master and we both scored 3rd place as a team (1,2,3 punch). We came out with much bling (2 medals).

Sunday agenda-happy mother's day!

I saw 1 tri somewhere far in FL, but with no swimmer, it was out. Instead, I cross trained on my inlines for 12 miles before taking out my mom for lunch.

Cinco de Mayo weekend

Cinco de Mayo weekend is upon us ! Don't drink & drive!

Saturday agenda-race!

Here's what's on my schedule:

1. Santa Barbara wine country half
2. ft desoto tri
3. big cardio
4. make a wish 5k

You may automatically rule out #1;out of state. #2 was cancelled; strike 2. I passed on the the latter so #3 it is.
I like the 7 am scheduled start but unfortunately, it was delayed over 15 minutes. Its a great event for families because so many post activities were scheduled, like basketball & soccer. I stuck to my passion, the run!

I got sick during the week on top of the injury I sustained from the half last Sunday (re-aggravated an old ankle injury). If I felt like I did on Monday, I would not have been able to race. God is good, as I recovered enough to attempt to race. When the horn went off, I was barely in the top 30. Despite internal (aforementioned) and external (heat & humidity) conditions, I made the top 5 even with a dismal time and captured the master title with the help of the Lord. That distinction earned me (& a female) the only plaques to be awarded. The top 3 and age groupers got medals; strange, huh? Post race was great, lots of activities.

Sunday agenda-race!

Here's what's on my schedule:
a. madd dash 5k
b. down & dirty 5k/10k
c. inspiration 5k

I took the closest to my house & ran with it. I have never been to this venue (Gulliver prep) but yet it's listed as the 13th annual. It began there, went through the 'hood & back, finishing on the football field. I didn't make it to the top ten until about a mile. By the grace of God, I held my position despite declining speed, plus the internal & external conditions similar to yesterday. Runners depot were 2nd and 3rd respectively, with me the latter. Disappointed I got a generic medal even though I was 3rd overall. The cause was for special Olympics.

April showers!

April showers were evident this weekend!

Thursday agenda-corporate run

This day was my dad's birthday. We did an event on a weekday. I don't consider this as a race due to the sheer number of people & my position within the crowd. Thanks to Shannon, my dad & I were on a team & a paced with her. She was the fastest on the team.

Saturday agenda-race!

I considered the following:

1. meek and mighty (st Anthony's)
2. rayz awareness 5k (ormond bch)
3. fit 2 run 4 miler
4. dash & splash 5k
5. miccosukee 3 mile
6. run to remember 5k
7. doral 5k

I passed on the 1st 2 + #5=out of normal tri-county area. I'm doing a half so no more than a 5k as a tune up; #3 out. The latter was closest in proximity but I already committed to #6.

I drove up while it was drizzling & some came down prior to the start. The Lord was kind to shut it off throughout the race. The overcast sky kept the heat down. I made the right choice but had to work hard. In the final stretch, I got past a master competitor to win the title! That broke a long drought. On top of that, the time was decent. Trophies to the top 3 (Runners depot got top 2) overall and masters, the rest medals.

Sunday agenda-race!

I considered the following:

a. rnr half (TN)
b. st Anthony's tri
c. aef 5k
d. us military 5k
e. jcc monterra5k
f. kb half

I passed on the 1st 2=out of normal tri-county area. I picked the latter because it's an inaugural, eliminating the rest.

I drove up while it was drizzling & some came down prior to the start. Unlike yesterday, that and the winds continued throughout the race. I prepared for a 7 am start so when I got there 15 minutes prior, I was caught off guard when a race official said, 'go'! I found out later, that it was actually delayed 15 minutes! I paced with john garrido till over the bridge, got by Lisa dorfman (temporarily) & paced with lady group till mile 10, where I fell off pace. My goal was 1:45, considering the course and conditions. I used the iRun pacers to assist me. The 1:45 group was the yellow line & the 1:50 group was the red line. By the grace of God, I remained above the yellow line, barely and finished nearby Lisa. With no clocks, I didn't know how I was doing, even after the finish. The finish accomplished the ultimate goal. Later on, I found out I finished within my goal.

Earth day weekend

Earth day weekend is upon us!

Friday agenda-runway 5k

Yes, I found a rare event! I did the one once before but had to get permission from the boss to take off time to do it. She declined but granted 2 hour leeway. I was fortunate enough to place third despite being in the outrageous age group of 30 & over. A friend picked up my medal because I had to take off immediately. This time, I'm on vacation so I could stay for the festivities. To my dismay, I didn't make it (4th), therefore no hardware. It was extremely hot & humid, late start (8).

Saturday agenda-race

The following were up for consideration:

1. African aid 5k (ft Myers)
2. stomp out child abuse (pt st lucie)
3. 7 mile bridge
4. spring training du/tri
5. 1040k 5k
6. docs dean's walk/run

#3 automatically out because I didn't try to get in it*. #2 & #3 out of tri-county area, so I pass. #4 no swimmer, du possible but not cost effective. #6=fun run; out whenever I can race. My selection was #5.

I was awaken by thunder & lightning while with a friend. Considering I had not committed to any of the above & the fact I'd have to pay the race day rate, I made the rare decision not to race! Can you believe that? My safety & mitigation of some financial damage overruled. Did light training on treadmill.
* Found out after the fact this race was cancelled due to the inclement weather. #4 had the 2 loop bike course reduced to 1.

Sunday agenda-race!

Happy earth day! Found only 2, shingle creek adventure challenge (team required) in kissimmee or sprint for the cure (magic bullet) 5k; the latter won out (proximity rules).

Weather cleared up in time for the run. The external conditions were some heat & humidity. I saw the sun for the first time since Friday! It's more the internal conditions that 'killed' me. I felt tired & tight so I struggled with my heavy legs throughout. Even though I failed to break 20, by the grace of God, I made the dirty dozen & the podium. The top 3 & master got beautiful glass trophies; the rest of us, generic medals. The post race was 5 star with pancakes & eggs for me, sausage for others. A couple of hours later, no more clear sky, it began to rain again!

Mid month crisis (April)

Mid month crisis (April) has come again. Traditionally, this is tax day, a crisis in itself. Since it fell on a weekend, they (IRS) moved the official file date to Tuesday, the 17th. Meanwhile, my crisis continues, still not breaking 19 plus struggling to stay under 20!

Sunday agenda-race?

Not! No one stepped up to the plate to swim so I am literally grounded. Had 1 who led me on till Thursday before I realized the hard way, this ain't gonna happen. Therefore, I was forced to train in lieu of racing. Yet another crisis. The only other event was not in Florida (Austin 10/20). Did i mention that I just barely got my taxes done?

Monday agenda-Boston marathon

I'm not gonna be there tomorrow but I can say I been there, done that within my athletic career. Good luck everybody & happy patriot's day. Heard there's gonna be record heat.

Birthday weekend

My Birthday weekend is here! Happy to get through Friday, the 13th (a little rough at the office) first, although shades of yesterday crept into the weekend. Today, I advance from freshman to sophomore but still stuck in my toughest age group ever.

Saturday agenda-race!

Seems like race organizers only thought of today for racing. Here what I considered:

1. roar through Ybor
2. Tarzan cup
3. Rooney's 5k
4. kids in distress 5k
5. 5k walk/run for asthma (fun run)

#1 is too far, #2 is an adventure race and #5 was a fun run, so I skipped those. Passed on #4 because I remember having so much fun at #3.

It was the 5th anniversary of this event. I left about 5 am to make the nearly 2 hour drive up there. It felt cool but was very windy. I felt the past 3 days & that has affected me & my training. I felt very tired but I forced myself to race, especially since it's the only one I can find to do as an individual. Last year, I beat the bunny but don't remember that being a big deal. This year, it was basically the only highlight and was tough as hell to do. We kept trading places but slipped in front in the .1 to be the last one to beat the bunny (2 seconds). Mind you, it was under 20 minutes! I finished 5th, with a time that was good enough for 3rd in the previous age group; no glass for me, boo hoo! Manipulating numbers (my finishing time) like my bro, 1-9+4-1=-5, my position in the age group. aren't ya'll proud of me? Lucky or not, 5 was my number. Oh yeah, April, fourteen (1+4=5)!

Easter weekend!

Easter weekend is upon us !

Saturday agenda-race!

Seems like everybody tried to cram races today before the big day (Easter):

1. 10th Annual Run Like a Bunny
2. Mote Run for the Turtles
3. Women For Women 5K / 10K
4. butterfly 5k
5. sun smart 5k
6. egg hunt du/tri
7. alpheus 'hawk' finlayson 5k/10k (Bahamas)

#3 (women only) & #7 (out of FL) automatically out! #1 is too tough for me, especially in my current race shape. I like #4 & #6 but opted to save gas and stay closer to home, bypassing also #2.

I was here last year & remember doing good enough to squeak into the masters to get a nice plaque. This year was different. I had to deal with hot, humid & windy weather while battling against the return of an old rival. It used to be easy to beat him back then but this time I had to fight hard, doing a PR for the year to get past him in the last stretch. I did similar to last year but everybody got medals (they got cheap). I made the dirty dozen, top ten if the overall female is excluded.

Sunday agenda-Easter!

First, thank you Lord for giving us the ultimate gift, your only begotten son, to save us from ourselves. They tried to put him down, but he came back (resurrected) despite all odds! Don't know how a bunny or eggs got involved in our most holy holiday but it is what it is. My interpretation is that the eggs represent Christ, as you have to find them!

After the race yesterday, I got a severe headache & stomach ache so I had to squander the rest of the day suffering. This continued this day, so I had to cancel my long distance ride or even skate & forced out a 10k hood run. It was my first time doing it even though I always wanted to.

Transition weekend (spring)

Transition weekend (spring) is upon us!

Thursday agenda-run like a fool 5k

Yesterday was a rarity. Corporate run & run like a fool 5k. I am still not ready for the major league so the latter was a good choice. The challenge was getting to the race more than the race itself. I left normal time from my job near zoo Miami to get to west boca raton before the race starts 6:30. Remember, I have to park, pick up packet & prep before I can run. Unfortunately for me, it was hot & humid plus I was tired (no rest). I had worked all day, jumped into vehicle fighting traffic for an hour before the aforementioned. Needless to say, I had my worst 5k time of the year. By the grace of God, I still made the top ten & podium. To add insult to injury, I was 2nd with the 2 toughest age groups combined (40-49), whereas I would've been 1st under normal categories. I took my medal & headed home as quickly as possible (I have to open at work).

Today (Friday) is my brother's birthday. He catches up to me for about 2 weeks before I pull away to be older again.

Saturday agenda-race!

I found a bunch this day:

1. race for woman's wellness
2. barefoot on the beach
3. food allergy 5k
4. Daniel's dash 5k
5. seafarers 5k

Gonna have to expound in an interest manner. After the number following this sentence will be my appropriate response:

1. I enjoy this race but conflicts with my choice this year.
2. Also enjoyed this race but conflicts with my choice this year.
3. I don't remember if I did this race but conflicts with my choice this year.
4. I was encouraged to this race so it is my choice this year.
5. I missed this one last as an inaugural because I was out of the state (13.1 NY); my evening race.

Morning agenda-Daniels dash 5k

Hot & humid & I think windy day. Very sad because due to my internal conditions, I didn't beat people I usually beat, forfeiting was should have been an overall win. I'll break it down Clint Eastwood style:

The good: won age group, top ten (ironically, the same overall position as the previous race, 6th)
The bad: failed to break 20, got passed by the master winner in the final mile
The ugly: pay back is a bitch! Allan was the one I beat 4 years ago to win overall, at the same park, as a member of runner' depot racing team and my first day & race as such. No one broke 19 so it was mine to take & I failed. I even lost the consolation prize of master. Had to settle for a medal.

Evening agenda-seafarers 5k

Still disponded from previous races, I came up with hope to improve. Well, it was hotter, more humid and even more wind! Can you believe lightning struck 3 times within 3 days? Yep, same results as the morning only a bit slower; more turns! It was a very interesting course at the port. Post race was great if you're a meat eater.

Sunday agenda-race!

Many to choose from:

a. pill box 5k
b. Gumbo Limbo 10k
c. Rugged Runner Challenge
d. Swamp Stomp 5K
e. nautica tri

I passed on the strange sounding events, plus I'm still struggling with 5k's so I am not ready for b. With acquisition of a swimmer & runner, I returned to e.

External conditions were tough so the swimmer had a tough time. I fought hard with the wind but had more trouble with so many beginners & blockers slowing me down. Then, it was time to hand off to my runner, who has been battling injury & workout complacency (2 week vacation just a week prior to this event). Sadly, we didn't place. Whether or not I did well on the bike is as relevant as Dwayne Wade scoring 30+ points but the team loses. We weren't too shabby-5th out 59 in our category, 9th out of 1401 total, top ten no matter how you look at it. Better luck next time.

Vernal equinox (spring)!

Vernal equinox (spring) is here !

Saturday agenda-race!

There are a plethora of events today:

1. 13.1 NY
2. dances with dirt
3. race for research half
4. get your rear in gear 5k
5. palm 100
6. riverwalk run
7. 5k race to end homelessness

#1=out of state; strike 1. #2=adventure race; strike 2. I was not invited onto an ultra team (#5) plus been there, done that; strike 3. I like #6, which features both a 5k & a 5 miler but also been there, done that. I haven't done #4 nor #7 but chose to do 1 more distance event to set a new record: competing in ten half marathons within first quarter of a year, 2 were relays (partial distance).

The external conditions were good (cool) but not my internal conditions. When the dust cleared, I suffered symptoms of plantar fashitis & was limping all day thereafter. It was an o.k. time that would've been better had it not been for a fat volunteer who seemingly stopped in front of me on purpose, breaking my stride. From that point (about mile 11), I was unable to recover & went downhill from there. This race was not on my schedule so I did good considering I didn't prepare for it.

Sunday agenda-race!

A few to choose from:

a. rnr Dallas
b. Kendra's kisses 5k
c. i run to stop ms

You can automatically rule out a.; out of state. I like both b. & c. but opted for the latter due to proximity. Considering injury & tightness from yesterday, I was hoping to get lucky placing 3rd with just under a 21. Well, God works miracles. Despite the odds stacked against me, I finished under 20, won my age group and made the top ten! Unfortunately for me, I couldve won the race at my best (back in the day), masters at my race condition a couple of years ago. I strive to return to that.

St patrick weekend

St Patrick weekend is upon us.

Saturday agenda-race!

These events were on my radar:

0. Jerusalem international marathon (Friday)
1. rnr marathon (& half) DC
2. eco-safari adventure race (Melbourne)
3. march for cancer 5k
4. romp through pinecrest

Today is the day the Irish celebrate, especially with a lot of drinking. Maybe I shouldve kissed the blarney stone because I didn't get much luck from a 4 leaf clover. Definitely didn't do 0 because its out of the country. Skipped #1 (out of state) and #2 (not within my normal tri county area) due to rising gas prices. Thought about #3 but decided to stay within my county, plus very close to home; #4 wins.

This was my return to a race I won last year when it was an inaugural. Unfortunately this year, I have many set backs, largely injury & decreasing speed (getting slower). Both the internal and external (heat & humidity) conditions. I needed good luck but didn't really get it, as I barely made the top ten, got beat by Keith and failed to win my age group in the process. It was by the Grace of God I even saw the podium. At least I broke 20 was my only claim to fame.

Sunday agenda-race!

More events to choose from:

a. Georgia marathon & half
b. fountain of youth 5k (n port)
c. shamrock classic 5k/10k (Brandon)
d. Shula run for ovarian cancer 5k
e. broward blue run
f. fiu triathlon

Skipped a. (out of state) plus b. & c. (not within my normal tri county area), also due to rising gas prices. I definitely considered d. and e. because I am a runner but decided on the latter because its an inaugural event.

This is my first tri relay of the year. I got a 'new' swimmer in Mauricio and an 'old' runner, Alan W; I say that since he's competed with me before. Had a shaky start before the race due to the inexperience of the 'crew' but finally, it was a go. Our team was 'tri (ing) 2 win'! When the dust cleared, we posted record times and were the overall winning team. This could be interpreted as good luck but I'll say it was a blessing.

Spring forward!

Spring forward! Daylight saving time is this weekend!

Saturday agenda-race!

I needed a tune up but this is what I had to consider:

1. brain tumor 5k (CA)
2. shamrock walk & run (winter haven)
3. savage race (adventure)
4. st Patrick's 4 miler

You can automatically rule out #1. #2 is quite far but at least in FL. I will normally choose a more normal race rather than an adventure one, so #4 wins!

Not my distance so I tried my best. It was hot & humid so struggle, I did. Despite being way off pace, by the grace of God, I won my age group! I loved the st paddy theme, including the awards.

Sunday agenda-race!

Although I like all of the following events, I could only choose 1:

a. Sarasota half
b. cooper city Richardson 5k
c. 25.75 triathlon

With lack of a swimmer, c. is out. I love b. but I am still in the endurance stage of my season. Therefore, a. wins!

I had an ulterior motive. I wanted to complete the Florida 4 series (special medal for that) without doing the full distance. This means I had to get a partner (Mike) to do the relay. Last year, Gene & I won the top title with me as the anchor (longer distance) but since only 1 glass award was given for the team, I let him hold it (he claims I have too many awards anyway). When the dust cleared, similar results & outcome but role reversal for me. Therefore, once again, I go home with nothing but a finishers medal. I enjoyed the free meal afforded race winners. If I get somebody else next year, probably have the same situation.

March madness

March madness is near in NCAA basketball but begins for me now!

Saturday agenda-race!

These are on my radar:

1. gasparilla distance classic (day 1)
2. run for the health of it 5k
3. march for hunger 5k
4. run for compassion 5k

Normally, I would've taken #1 because of the many challenges. day 1= 15k followed by 5k, day 2=half then 8k (previously, i did a full, the ultimate challenge); not this year. Instead, I chose to do a double header, ruling ot #2. I need a tune up run but got 2 and both were supporting good causes.

race 1: march for hunger 5k

This began 7:30 & was held at the Hollywood broadwalk. Wind conditions were horrific on the turn around, therefore I failed to break 20. I was blessed to make the top ten & win age group; I found out after the fact since I had to leave immediately to get to the next event.

race 2: run for compassion 5k

This began after 9 in a state park but was held on the beach. That's right, I had to run on the sand, mostly soft. This was a total surprise & was the last thing I wanted to deal with. It started going south (opposite of the previous race) against the wind. Once I hit harder surface & with the wind, I advanced from like 20th to finish 3rd overall. Unfortunately, no such title was given so I had to settle for yet another age group win.

Sunday agenda-race!

This is my selection for this day:

a. gasparilla distance classic (day 2)
b. rnr new Orleans
c. hooters to hooters half
d. autism speaks 5k
e. family fitness 5k
f. 13.1 Miami beach

Rule out any out of state (b.). If I pass on day 1, I usually pass on day 2; a. is out. My dad & I got cheated out at c., so no long distance loss anytime soon again. I want to got for the big 3 again so the remaining 5ks are out, leaving the last event.

I knew I'd struggle with f. but didn't realize to what extent until the dust cleared. It was extremely hot, humid & windy, all of which I despise. On top of that, it was the most challenging course, with 5 bridges! I posted my worst time of the year here but got the distinction I sought upon completion. Oh, by the way, my dad did too; congrats, pops!

Feh brer oh!

Feh brer oh! That's Spanish for February. This weekend is the last for the shortest month of the year & black history month. By the way, Hispanics were given one of the longest months.

Saturday agenda-race!

This is what I had on my list for a tune up race:

1. brevard autism coalition 5k (brevard)
2. race for faith
3. panthers 5k run
4. 5k for a better day

I didn't feel like travelling longer than I had for my ex-girlfriend back in the day, ruling out the first 2. Unfortunately, I couldn't do both of the remaining, so I picked the one that logistically made sense. My next event was close to the east so #4 won.

Although I ran my best, I fell short of breaking 20 & didn't make the top ten. However, I did make the dirty dozen & take a master title (3rd). This served as a tune up for the main event the next day.

Sunday agenda-race!

I was aware of these events listed below:

a. Disney princess half
b. stand among friends 5k
c. spartan race
d. carnaval Miami 5k/10k

c. is an adventure type race, which cant overrule a standard one. Definitely not d. because only the overall winners get an award. I may have done b. but opted to repeat in a team at a.

I had to get a new partner since the one I had last year was non responsive. Amazingly, it was her first race at Disney. This was only my second time a relay in the event catered to women. Many may knock me for doing it at all but if you think clearly, wouldn't it be a real man's dream to be surrounded by thousands of women?

Except for wind, the weather was great. When the dust cleared, we posted descent times. I had my best time of the year (far short of my PB) despite foot problems and delays (had to past hundreds of slower runners), while she got her personal best, only a minute behind me. I never got to see her since she was in corral A, which began 15 minutes prior to the best corral position allowed for men, C. We missed the podium by 1 slot (4th place) but still had a blast.

President's weekend

President's weekend is upon us! Rather than give Abraham Lincoln is props, 1 day was set aside to incorporate him & George Washington, which will be this coming Monday.

Saturday agenda-race!

Out of about 20 races in Florida, these are the following races under consideration:

1. healthy choice 5k
2. run of the meadow 5k/10k
3. walk for wishes 5k
4. together we see eye run 5k

Of those options, the Lord made it possible to compete in a double header.

Morning agenda-walk for wishes 5k

It was back to zoo Miami for yet another one. I did what I could but barely broke 20. Can you believe I was 3rd overall but fell to age group? Sadly, the one between the race winner & I was a master, therefore claiming that title. With only one overall & master, I had to settle. However, I don't know what I got for an award, maybe a generic medal. Couldn't stay for the post race so I cant elaborate on it.

Evening agenda-together we see eye run 5k

I'm not fond of night races but am of multiple events in a single day. Therefore, I took the challenge. Unfortunately, I was unusually tight & tired (morning run?). The top 15 finishers were to qualify to run another race at night, maybe on a weekday. Sadly, I fell short by 2 slots and shorter, failed to break 20. Despite a worse time & position, I got a better award-trophy!

Sunday agenda-race!

I already predetermined to run the half but these events were scheduled on this day as well:

a. rnr Pasadena half
b. destin 50 beach ultra
c. A1A half/full marathon
d. tribute to the military

You can automatically rule out any out of FL race; a. Considering all my struggles, I'm not ready for an ultra; strike b. I like d. but need to do more distance running, especially during the season so c. wins!

To my dismay, I struggled miserably, logging in my worst time of the year. The wind & humidity was a bit too much, along with a problem with my foot. Also, I felt a bit tight & tired before I even started. Despite that, mission accomplished (got my medal) & yet another completed in the first quarter of the year.

Monday agenda-holiday

Happy President's day! Many, like me, had to work so I almost forgot.
